Have to be honest since trump won i wasn't going anyway. But anyone cancelling or going elsewhere?
I have a big birthday this year, I would go to the garbage dump rather than support America,/musk in any way. I know therwmis at least half of America that doesn't.support this shxt and for them I am sorry but for the republicans too spineless and self interested to resist their dictator.trump...not one iota of sympathy for the rising prices loss of Medicaid or medicare.

YABU ..to cancel/Not go
YANBU...wouldn't touch it with a bargepole

I changed plans to avoid it during his last administration, I sure as hell won't be going during this one.

kalokagathos · 01/03/2025 01:26

We switched destinations.

TheNestedIf · 01/03/2025 01:28

I've got a big birthday next year. Plan A was Chernobyl, now shelved for obvious reasons. Plan B was going to be New York, but I'd rather get shot by the Russians than set foot in a country where a rapist and his sex trafficking mates are ascendent, so plan C is in development.

Helentwinsplus1 · 01/03/2025 01:46

Strangely enough I was discussing this with my mum earlier and I was really surprised that she's decided she's not comfortable visiting the US and a lot of that is down to have a trans grandson. I'm really pleased for my son that that's the decision they've made - its a sign of support which we value

WorriedMutha · 01/03/2025 01:52

There's plenty of places in the world to visit. I wouldn't give them my dime. I said the same when Bush was in power. He seems like a paragon of virtue by comparison. We did 3 family trips to the USA under the Obama presidency.

JandLandG · 01/03/2025 01:53

On this topic, I read that Tesla shares had dropped recently on the back on Musk's recent pronouncements and behaviour.

I mean, who knew the CEO of a company couldn't go round doing Nazi salutes without any consequences?

I've been calling for a boycott of Musk goods for a while now and I think the French in particular seem to have agreed.

With all respect to his business experience and acumen, I would have thought most of Tesla's customers are rich wooly liberal Green eco types who will be repelled by his behaviour and attitudes.

Surely he'd destroying his own business model and customer base.

Can't see many Reform types buying a Tesla.

Especially not at 70 grand a pop or whatever they are...

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 01/03/2025 01:53

Not cancelling but certainly not committing.

Freeme31 · 01/03/2025 01:55

I feel sorry for Americans right now they are a laughing stock of the "true" free world. With a very un presidential President and Vancy is a bully a country showing no compassion and massive Putin supporter. How you treat the most vulnerable is a measure of a good society unfortunately Americans should be hanging their heads in shame. I will not visit whilst Trump/Vance are overlord dictators. American people are lovely but misguided at the moment imho

Donotwantnot · 01/03/2025 01:56

No way would I cancel. I may book more.

halfpastten · 01/03/2025 01:58

TDS.

StrawberryWater · 01/03/2025 02:00

I'm not getting on a plane while Trump is president.

MidnightPatrol · 28/02/2025 20:28

Why would you not go to the US….?

A country where the head of state is a convicted felon, has absolutely no respect for law and order, who thinks it's ok to 'cop a feel', where women's rights are utterly disrespected, and the president and his deputy put on the most disgusting display of bullying and graceless ignorance I have ever seen.

Gosh, why wouldn't I want to go there? !!

Today, every single American who voted for DT and his bully boys should be hanging their head in shame and embarrassment..

OneLemonDog · 01/03/2025 02:31

I live within 15 minutes of the US, and you couldn't pay me to visit.

HadtoExclude · 01/03/2025 02:45

I pulled my daughter going to Washington DC last time he got in as didn't want to feed the economy and that ego would take credit for it.
Last time I went to Florida I felt that it was soul less and community less and was afraid of it to be truthful with you.
I would definitely not go again when he is there. Don't let him take credit for your spending power as you know he will! Envy

Do you think people are also cancelling trips to the UK now that we have such an awful government?

I’m Canadian. As far as I know the UK government hasn’t threatened our sovereignty.

We have decided not to go to the states as planned this spring but we are still going to the UK in the fall.

gerispringer · 01/03/2025 03:05

I was planning a trip this October. Not now.

haufbiskiy · 01/03/2025 03:22

We bought a new EV last month. We’d been planning on a Tesla but couldn’t do it. So we bought a different make instead. Every time someone makes a sensible decision with their spending power they chip away at the influence of those who are trying to bully the world.

Hamilton6382 · 28/02/2025 21:35

Do you think people are also cancelling trips to the UK now that we have such an awful government?

Lol, such a typical response! No, what's happening in the UK is not even remotely comparable to the US, where a Felon and his unelected official are acting like dictators.

TankFlyBossW4lk · 01/03/2025 03:33

Kneenightmare · 28/02/2025 21:49

We’ve just been and whilst we had a great time, the news made very depressing reading. Had thought of a west coast trip next year but will postpone for 4 years and see how things are then.

Trump will go for another term. I'm sure. Despite the rules allowing only 2 terms.

TankFlyBossW4lk · 01/03/2025 03:44

Scenicgirl · 01/03/2025 00:01

Which planet do you live on?
Look around you and get your head out of the sand, this government is a disgrace and an embarrassment.

You're a loon if you think this government shamed us as much as Boris and Liz lettuce woman.

TankFlyBossW4lk · 01/03/2025 03:46

deeahgwitch · 28/02/2025 22:48

That's interesting.
Donald Trump won the national popular vote with a plurality of 49.8%.
Who are these people ?
Will any of them be disappointed with DT's and JD Vance's treatment of Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the White House ?

No, they probably love it. That's why Trump televised it. He actually said it would make 'great TV'.

TankFlyBossW4lk · 01/03/2025 03:48

Hamilton6382 · 28/02/2025 22:59

Objectively the worst government in living memory if not of all time. They are beyond dreadful. Bigoted, incompetent and woefully out of their depth. I genuinely didn’t think it was possible for us to end up with a government as bad as this.

You're frankly living in an alternative universe to me. Nothing compares to Liz Truss.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/03/2025 04:17

Flomingho · 01/03/2025 01:03

I would still go. If you boycotted countries because of questionable leaders or politics there would be very few places to visit in the world.

There are 195 countries.
Which ones, exactly?

Nettleteaser101 · 01/03/2025 04:37

You are not going to bump into Trump or Musk so I can't see why you would not go to the USA. I can't understand the fuss and high horses that British people get on and worry about other country's politics.
I'm more worried about the idiot Starmer to be honest.

ThisFluentBiscuit · 01/03/2025 04:40

I think boycotting the place would be an over-reaction. I've long thought that all kinds of destinations should be boycotted, those with terrible human rights records and horrendous treatment of women, such as India, China, anywhere in the Middle East, many African countries, etc. Why single out America, when there are so many other truly appalling countries to boycott? Half the country didn't vote for him. Plus you'd be missing out on a truly amazing place. There's a LOT more to America than its politics, and you're safer there than in many other parts of the world.

If you boycott America for those reasons, I hope you stick to northwestern Europe, Canada, or Australia, because anywhere else has more human-rights problems than those places, or else appalling sexism, like the Catholic southern Mediterranean countries. Even France is massively sexist compared to the UK. Motherhood Medal, anyone? 🙄 Switzerland is the same. The UK is about the most tolerant and progressive nation on earth. Maybe just go to Butlins??
