Have to be honest since trump won i wasn't going anyway. But anyone cancelling or going elsewhere?
I have a big birthday this year, I would go to the garbage dump rather than support America,/musk in any way. I know therwmis at least half of America that doesn't.support this shxt and for them I am sorry but for the republicans too spineless and self interested to resist their dictator.trump...not one iota of sympathy for the rising prices loss of Medicaid or medicare.

YABU ..to cancel/Not go
YANBU...wouldn't touch it with a bargepole

@Whattttd - That's good to hear. I fell in love with this place the 1st time my husband brought me here to meet his family. The sun is shining today, and Mt Baker is shining in all her glory. Maybe Canada will adopt us as a bonus province 😁

Maddy70 · 28/02/2025 23:26

Just don't want to be anywhere near the USA these days

BeAzureAnt · 28/02/2025 23:32

I'm an American living here in the UK, and I didn't set foot in the country the first time Trump was elected, and I am sure as heck not going to do so now. I'm looking now into giving up my citizenship. That exchange with Zelenskyy was disgraceful.

Apfelkuchen · 28/02/2025 23:32

I’d already decided not to travel to the US if Trump got in (as I did last time), but I’m going forther now and boycotting US companies where possible.

Mauro711 · 28/02/2025 23:33

I was taking my DD to NYC for her 21st birthday in May, we decided tonight to cancel it. We booked it before Trump became president, felt uneasy about it when he won, now there is no way I will spend a single dollar in that country. We’ll go somewhere else.

MarketSt · 28/02/2025 23:36

Flights are non refundable so unless it becomes unsafe and so our insurance will pay out then we'll be in Disneyworld at Easter.

HazelBite · 28/02/2025 23:36

So should the French, Germans and the rest of the EU have stopped coming here because just over half of the UK voted for Brexit.??
I have 2 American DILs and my BIL is now an American citizen, so I will still continue to go, as I don't think Trump represents all US citizens.

TizerorFizz · 28/02/2025 23:45

We are still going. Working on keeping our mouths shut. Firmly. Avoiding anything political. Just hoping to enjoy the scenery.

whatistheworld · 28/02/2025 23:45

probably only California and New York would be ok to visit as didn't vote Trump. I personally will not be going there in the next 4 years or maybe ever if they don't sort out their gun crime. My last trip to california was terrifiying with a drive by shooting in the bar next to us.
The treatment of women is beyond disgusting in some states

Elliania · 28/02/2025 23:46

We were looking at at least one trip to either California, Boston or Florida. We're not doing any of them for at least the next four years & will probably go visit Canda instead.

Ok. But....How many people have died due to Brexit?

Longwaysouth · 28/02/2025 23:51

Visit Canada

Inthebleakmidwinter1 · 28/02/2025 23:51

We decided against longer haul travel and haven’t regretted it given how much Europe’s has to offer!

Gongpostal · 28/02/2025 23:54

Nope! Planning out Florida holiday for 12 people including 4 kids as I type!

DollopOfFun · 28/02/2025 23:54

Yes. I've many friends and family in the US, our last holiday there was summer 2024. We won't be going back for the foreseeable future.

mjf981 · 28/02/2025 23:55

I wouldn't go now.

The situation is on a knife edge. I'd be concerned about airline safety for a start. Never mind the gutting of all the other agencies which are integral to a functioning society. I'm expecting some sort of civil unrest, if not outright war, within the next few years. Surely, surely, Americans will not just continue to roll over and take what tRump is dishing out?

Pinkchilli · 28/02/2025 23:57

YANBU- I said in 2016 I would not visit whilst trump is in charge and would not go now. Disgusting pig of a man and horrified that he has such a following there. It is terrifying for the world just now……

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 01/03/2025 00:00

I will not go to the US while a trump is in power. And like feck would I ever buy a Tesla.

PrimitivePerson · 28/02/2025 22:47

No, because our government isn't awful.

Which planet do you live on?
Look around you and get your head out of the sand, this government is a disgrace and an embarrassment.

sleepwouldbenice · 01/03/2025 00:04

I am not going and trying to avoid buying American. I understand the idea of supporting those who didn't vote for the orange lump, just as I understood the distain for the UK after brexit, but its a no from me (been many times, planned some more).

This is the second time they've elected him. I get the opposition was crap, times are tough etc but, no not the second time and not after he was so clear re his intentions . I am refusing to care about their internal issues this time, with regret.

Futurehappiness · 01/03/2025 00:05

Very sadly (because it is a country I already respected & of which I consider myself a friend) I can't go to the US at the moment. I know there are many many good people there; but evil has the upper hand there at the moment and as a nation they are at risk of descending into the abyss.

One lesson from history: Germany prior to WWll was not some backwater; it was at the heart of Europe, a centre of civilisation and culture. Yet it descended into evil. If it could happen there it can really happen everywhere.

Why?

Imagine being an American and seeing this from abroad. I don't recognise my country anymore. I really do not. I had a wonderful childhood and young adulthood there. It was a good place. And now, yes it is descending into evil. The Great Experiment of the Enlightenment failed.

sansou · 01/03/2025 00:16

DH deliberately didn't choose Tesla for an EV last year because he didn't want to give his money to Elon Musk. However, he does realise that many of the investment funds he holds does invest in American companies including Tesla because we had a conversation about it when we were reviewing our finances. We're not boycotting Amazon or Apple so I can't see how practical it is to boycott the US economy when a significant proportion of our pension/ISA funds are literally based on it. How about Starbucks? Mcdonalds?

TheGrimSmile · 01/03/2025 00:16

I used to love America. I can't see me going back now in my lifetime, sadly.
