Have to be honest since trump won i wasn't going anyway. But anyone cancelling or going elsewhere?
I have a big birthday this year, I would go to the garbage dump rather than support America,/musk in any way. I know therwmis at least half of America that doesn't.support this shxt and for them I am sorry but for the republicans too spineless and self interested to resist their dictator.trump...not one iota of sympathy for the rising prices loss of Medicaid or medicare.

YABU ..to cancel/Not go
YANBU...wouldn't touch it with a bargepole

We looked at each other during that shameful interview today and said... "not going to New York for a while then". So we are simply not going on a vaguely planned trip, rather than cancelling a booked one.

Hamilton6382 · 28/02/2025 21:35

Do you think people are also cancelling trips to the UK now that we have such an awful government?

0psiedasiy · 28/02/2025 21:39

Still visiting my brother in Florida and he a proper maga fan.
He’s got a green card. After Covid-he’s a anti vaccination person- he went on and on about how we shouldn’t have had them, it was the only way to get into the USA at the time-proving you had them. Proper nutter, gun and all but still going to see him.

user4434 · 28/02/2025 21:42

Still going to Florida. Pretty sure Disney World will be fine.

Totally up to them.

Canadians cancelling their America trips...totally up to them.
Americans not coming to UK, totally up to them...actually im hoping one big orange blubbering blimp is one of them.

Hoping to cruise to Florida later this year and cannot wait.

Kneenightmare · 28/02/2025 21:49

We’ve just been and whilst we had a great time, the news made very depressing reading. Had thought of a west coast trip next year but will postpone for 4 years and see how things are then.

Lollzi86 · 28/02/2025 22:01

Booked and paid for our trip this year and will not be cancelling especially as we are visiting a majority democratic supporting state.

NavyNorris · 28/02/2025 22:05

I have been a lot in the past. No current trips set in stone but we do plan to go next year. I definitely wouldn't be cancelling if I had a trip booked. I understand and respect others that would not want to visit right now but personally I'd be happy to go. (Admittedly the whole right to bear/bare (?!! Dead brain moment) arms does worry me, but that's a whole other topic...)

Eyesopenwideawake · 28/02/2025 22:07

With Musk pleading for retired Air Traffic Controllers to go back to work?

Er, no.

KellySeveride · 28/02/2025 22:07

jamaisjedors · 28/02/2025 20:52

It's not virtue signalling, we had planned to go on a special trip to New York sometime in the autumn but both turned to each other after Trump's inauguration and said, let's not go.

It just would taint the whole thing.

No signalling to anyone but each other (and now I guess this thread seeing as the op asked).

Well that’s daft. I’m in NYC now with my DD and having a great time. Came last year with my boys (before Trump) it’s the same now as it was then.

Huzzahs · 28/02/2025 22:15

Genuine and hopefully not goady question for those boycotting America - do you the same standards when considering holidays to oppressive regimes like Dubai or UAE, or countries in Europe with far right Parties in charge like Hungary, Italy or the Czech Republic?

PurpleThistle7 · 28/02/2025 22:17

From a safety perspective just be very sure you understand what could happen to you if there’s any chance you could be pregnant. And I’m not talking about abortion, I’m talking about basic medical care. Women are dying and I’m not sure everyone understands how dangerous it is to be pregnant in the states right now - not every state, but certainly Florida and Texas to name two.

Also if anyone is contemplating visiting a national park it is worth reconsidering as they are likely to be very difficult right now. Seriously understaffed so everything from fewer bins being emptied, bathrooms being cleaned… to things like fire service and emergency care of any kind.

Hopefully goes without saying to really think about it if you or someone you are travelling with are trans.

of course it’s totally possible to ignore this all, focus on the good and have a fabulous trip. We will be there for weeks this year and won’t spend the entire time curled in a ball in a safe room. But we will also be careful about where we stay and where we go. And are having some safety chats with our kids about guns (children raised in America have these conversations far younger of course but our kids have been protected from this and I wouldn’t want to be negligent. They’ll be in homes with gun owners - as millions of American households are - and they need to know how to stay safe)

Doingtheboxerbeat · 28/02/2025 22:22

Boycotts work, for those wondering why it's important to make a stand.

SpottedDonkey · 28/02/2025 22:26

I’m not planning to go to the US this year, which is unusual as I have visited dozens of times over the last 30+ years, I have travelled extensively around that amazing country and I’m lucky enough have many friends living there.

It’s nothing to do with Trump, though. America is bigger than any one politician, however powerful / loathsome he may be. It’s mainly because of the appalling exchange rate. The USA is bloody expensive at £1 = $1.20.

ThatBusyRoseLion · 28/02/2025 22:28

I would not go. I will do all I can to boycott everything American,

Harliea · 28/02/2025 22:35

Not cancelling, but stopped planning once Trump was elected.

The number of air crashes and his criticism and meddling with air traffic scares me ( poor flier).

Trump elected, morally bankrupt, untrustworthy, criminal liar that more Americans than not voted for…no, I don't want to visit, don't want to spend my money.

The shocking bullying tactics of Trump and Vance have meant I'm nit regretting my decision.

TheseCalmSeas · 28/02/2025 22:36

Sadly I have to go for work every other month and we usually make a holiday out of one of the trips but won’t be for the next four years.

We’re heading to Canada instead!

houseofstark · 28/02/2025 22:36

I didn't have a trip planned and don't plan to go while Trump is president. Personally I just don't want to boost his economy and tax dollars.

I'm feeling quite strongly about it tonight and have removed all American brands from my online food delivery! That may be a knee-jerk reaction that doesn't last. Then again I may like the alternatives Smile

And just maybe, if every citizen made changes as a protest, as a large collective we can make a difference.

The world feels crazy. Democratic control erroded by idiots, money and moral bankruptcy. Feels totally useless.

Thank you for this. I have watched with horror the campaign and election, project 2025 and now todays whitehouse shitshow. It is horrifying that anything like this could be implemented.

I don't think most people realise what the outcomes of musk and trumps policies and cuts really mean. I see people writing on here wishing for a 'leader' like trump. If they had the misfortune to experience the ins and outs of Project 2025 they would be on the streets protesting about their rights being ripped from them, especially women.

I’ve been to America a dozen times but not a chance I’d go again. It’s like a second world country run by a militia with guns and no rule of law.

LongDarkTeatime · 28/02/2025 22:43

Used to l travel over to USA frequently for work, and lived there for a while.
Always planned to take DC to favourite places. No way will we go until Trump is no longer in power.

Lambington · 28/02/2025 22:46

No way would i be going there for the foreseeable. It's becoming increasingly unstable and may actually become an enemy state at any moment.

No, because our government isn't awful.
