Have to be honest since trump won i wasn't going anyway. But anyone cancelling or going elsewhere?
I have a big birthday this year, I would go to the garbage dump rather than support America,/musk in any way. I know therwmis at least half of America that doesn't.support this shxt and for them I am sorry but for the republicans too spineless and self interested to resist their dictator.trump...not one iota of sympathy for the rising prices loss of Medicaid or medicare.

YABU ..to cancel/Not go
YANBU...wouldn't touch it with a bargepole

We were planning a holiday to west coast for a special birthday. Postponing for next 4 years at least.

Am seriously considering how we spend our money and how to mitigate the Trump influence.

FancyAnotherCuppa · 01/03/2025 00:27

I am. Brother lives in the US. Instead of visiting him there we’re meeting him in Mexico for a week. A more expensive trip but I just don’t feel comfortable travelling there right now. Parents are still going, but if it wasn’t for my brother they wouldn’t.

Shimmyshimmycocobop · 01/03/2025 00:27

Wasn't planning on visiting any time soon but I have stopped buying American products in solidarity with Canadians who are getting a rough deal in the potential trade war, I used to live there and have Canadian relatives. They are so pissed at the Trump administration.

Hollyhedge · 01/03/2025 00:28

We are going as can’t cancel but I am with you on this

BobbyBiscuits · 01/03/2025 00:31

I'd still go if I had something booked. I wouldn't want to go to a heavily MAGA favouring area. Maybe stick with Portland or NY or SF but apparently the latter has some areas with very severe open drug use and mass homelessness which must be awful.
I've only ever been to tri state area when I lived there for about 6 months more than 20 hrs ago.

Do you think people are also cancelling trips to the UK now that we have such an awful government?

oooh, she not like the other girls

Barleysugar86 · 01/03/2025 00:34

I have been to the US quite a few times to visit family and travel- I've visited around 15 states- North Carolina was a particularly unexpected highlight. We haven't been for a few years now though as we are in the little kids stage of life and the flight is a bit long, so there was never an immediate US trip on the cards. But yes I am put off visiting for the foreseeable.

So should the French, Germans and the rest of the EU have stopped coming here because just over half of the UK voted for Brexit.??
I have 2 American DILs and my BIL is now an American citizen, so I will still continue to go, as I don't think Trump represents all US citizens.

Ooh, please expand. In what ways was Brexit is comparable to actions of current US administration?

BurntBroccoli · 01/03/2025 00:40

No I wouldn't go at the moment.
It feels like something is about to kick off - there are a lot of unhappy people.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 01/03/2025 00:51

Was planning to go this year but have swapped to europe. I choose not to willingly put money into the US right now.

Sadly I have to go for work every other month and we usually make a holiday out of one of the trips but won’t be for the next four years.

We’re heading to Canada instead!

Ah wonderful Canada, as long as you aren't from first nation heritage. If so, your rape/murder/abuse will be nicely covered up or ignored.

Ireolu · 01/03/2025 00:55

Would have planned disney florida. Knew it wouldn't happen last November when he won the election. Even DC understands out stance and why it won't be happening until at least he is no longer in charge.

unluckystar · 01/03/2025 00:57

I think a lot must be avoiding looking at the prices of Florida for a family holiday , compared to what the prices were a year ago !!! Almost half the price

Livelovebehappy · 01/03/2025 00:57

I’m going to New York in the summer. I love it, and have been before. never crossed my mind not to go tbh. But obviously, you do you……

Flomingho · 01/03/2025 01:03

I would still go. If you boycotted countries because of questionable leaders or politics there would be very few places to visit in the world.

Yes there are a lot of homeless people in San Francisco. My daughter visited a few years ago and found it a very depressing place.

Blibbleflibble · 01/03/2025 01:05

Was going to take 5yo DC to Disney world next year, however with all the political fuckery genuinely making it dangerous, on top of the recent spate of plane crashes (perhaps related to firing all the air traffic control safety lot), I'm thinking errrm no. 😬

StrikeAlways · 01/03/2025 01:05

MidnightPatrol · 28/02/2025 20:28

Why would you not go to the US….?

Because Trump, his cronies and the MAGA crowd have made it a disgusting place.

Daisymay2 · 01/03/2025 01:06

I decided I wouldn’t go during the first Trump presidency, haven’t been abroad for various reasons during Biden years, and not going through this presidency, although Canada is looking very promising.

Rainingalldayonmyhead · 01/03/2025 01:08

With so many amazing places in the world why would you go?

Shame on those who want to support the American economy and a dictator.

You don’t have to go there. You are choosing to support Trump and his economy. I reserve travel for those on medical grounds or family etc. Otherwise the selfish thinking is really poor.

AtIusvue · 01/03/2025 01:13

We travelled to Vermont to see the spectacular Autumn scenery in October 2023. We stayed in Manchester and travelled around by car. Honestly, it was utterly amazing. The scenery, warm people, Halloween decor. We absolutely loved it and would have loved to go back and do more of the east coast.

Now, not a chance.

We would go out for breakfast every morning and the locals would always ask about our ‘ brogue’ , asking lots of questions and usually passing on lovely compliments. Now, who knows if we would be looked at as scrounging Europeans, who are trying to ban free speech and prayer. ( I mean Vermont is very liberal but there’s still many, many Trump flags)

In addition, why would we spend ££££s visiting a country that has shown they couldn’t care less about the UK and Europe. This administration doesn't want friendly ties.

The country is spectacularly beautiful and the people very friendly but we know where we’re not welcome.

I agree with you.

This year my family is coming here rather than us visiting them in the US. I'm feeling relieved at that for multiple reasons.

BeAzureAnt · 28/02/2025 23:47

Ok. But....How many people have died due to Brexit?

Unfortunately I'm sure that number is bigger than zero.

batterychicken · 01/03/2025 01:22

We were going to drive from Boston to California but we're
Doing Canada instead

Rainingalldayonmyhead · 01/03/2025 01:23

It always reminds me of Margaret Atwood (Canadian btw) who said that the Handmaids Tale was a warning based on evidence based examples from the current world.

I don’t think we have ever been closer than now. Scary stuff.

And to those who think they will be fine as they are travelling to a Democrat area. It doesn’t work like that. The majority may be but that may only be just over 50%. Florida? Swing state, plenty of Republicans (who aren’t all bad btw). I know staunch Republicans (parents of friends etc) who live in Democratic states.
