Can you define what Female Gender is?

I hear about biological sex and gender being different things but what is female gender? Surely if you can't define what having a female gender is, then how can it exist?

YABU - I can define female gender and will write my definition as a post here.
YANBU - You can't define female gender

Gender is just stereotypes of what western society expects a female to look/act.

Great! can't wait for a definition of female gender.

Why are we getting daily posts on trans issues in AIBU? There's a whole forum dedicated to this topic.

peakedandoverthehill · 23/02/2025 16:38

Not to muddle things what also, could someone please define what living as a woman means?
Thanks in advance

Gender is fictional nonsense.

I can define what being a woman is though, and it isn’t wearing skirts or having long hair.

YouDeserveBetterSoAskForIt · 23/02/2025 16:39

I am biologically female. A woman. This cannot change regardless of how I dress or what parts of my body I choose to remove.

"Gender" in the context you are referring to is essentially a social construct.

People believe that a boy wearing nail polish or effeminate clothing has an impact on his sex. That isn't the case.

Traditional gender roles for example, are something that have been shoved onto people, and that is now changing as people express themselves. Unfortunately, it has become a huge deal to express yourself differently.

Those who believe they are actually born the wrong sex have dysphoria. The way they dress affirms them because they rigidly adhere to sexist and misogynistic ideas about gender itself.

nocoolnamesleft · 23/02/2025 16:40

Gender is a collection of harmful stereotypes used by the patriarchy to reinforce its control over women.

So how can a man feel like he has female gender? I'm so confused.

You can't live as a woman unless you are one.

Being a woman means facing the impact of a patriarchal society from the moment you are born.

Living as a woman is doing everything a man does, with the added weight and struggle of systemic oppression.

ditalini · 23/02/2025 16:43

Female gender is whatever a man says it is.

peakedandoverthehill · 23/02/2025 16:43

So if a man says he is a trans woman and has female gender identity does that change depending on the stereotypes of the country?

MaggieBsBoat · 23/02/2025 16:44

Female gender = lipstick, dresses, giggling behind your hand at unfunny jokes and happily earning less for equal work.
Female sex = xx chromosomes.

Living as a woman is when a man says that's what he's doing.

Oh interesting probably.

female gender male in Afghanistan = silent, staying inside and never being seen again.
Female gender male in Scotland = see previous post

I can’t without looking to biological gender.

There are many things that I can do that men can or likely could do if I was given the same encouragement and teachings. Most perceptions and history is based on the behaviours and views of men about women. There’s also history that is often ignored showing women doing “male” things by society’s standards and that often once a woman participated and did well (better than expected ), she was met with aggression, women as a whole were banned and/or a women only event was started alongside a men’s only event.

Screamingabdabz · 23/02/2025 16:47

Sex and gender mean the same thing to me. Why complicate it? 🤷🏻‍♀️

caringcarer · 23/02/2025 16:48

Gender is how you identify, whether you identify as typical female or typical male traits. Biological sex is your chromosomal sex either XX for female or XY for male with a few mutations.

Upstartled · 23/02/2025 16:48

Sex - biological reality
Gender- pantomime.

It's not me complicating things, I just hear the phrase alongside 'living as a woman' and I have no clue what the definition is for those.

But what are the list of typical female traits? Do they all have to be ticked off or just some? At what point are you doing female gender rather than just being a person with a personality and individual preferences?

What's the definition of a typical female and typical male?

There is no such thing as female gender.

Female and male are the two sexes. There are only two and no one can change from one to the other.

Masculine and feminine are the gendered performance of stereotypes often paired with sex but given they are performative it's not necessary to pair masculine with male and feminine with female. Men can wear dresses and women can have short hair, neither changes sex.

HoppityBun · 23/02/2025 16:51

Well, I am female, but when I read and see what others describe as female behaviour and characteristics, I sometimes wonder if I qualify as female on the gender front
