To be disgusted at the talks between Russia and the US

SunnyDayInFeb · 17/02/2025 08:58

So Russia and the US are meeting in Saudia Arabia to carve up Ukraine.

And Ukraine, whose people have been fighting and dying since their country was invaded, haven't even been invited to the table.

It's like we are back in the 19th century with the European colonial powers drawing lines on a map to divide Africa between them.

Would you or your children die for your country? I don’t see this sort of loyalty for the UK. It’s little more than an economic zone at this point, certainly nothing to die over.

The only ones who would are those pressganged into it because they can’t get a second passport

Some of us have adult kids who have already signed up for it. Given your contempt for the UK maybe you’d be happier on a US site hanging out with kindred spirits?

How dare you. Are you British? You have no idea what we would or wouldn’t do. Your country by all account is selling its morals and backbone to hop into bed with a dictator in order to carve up a smaller country. Despicable, I hope the ‘dollars’ are worth losing your honour completely.

bemoresloth · 04/03/2025 13:05

They are channeling JD Vance and his attack on British troops helping the USA during his fox news interview

For those who haven't seen it

https://bsky.app/profile/newseye.bsky.social/post/3ljk3ly6iuk2g

NEW: JD Vance describes UK & French troops in Ukraine as “20,000 troops from some random country that hasn’t fought a war in 30 or 40 years”.

Spits in the face of UK & EU troops that died supporting the US in Iraq & Afghanistan.

@Wildflowers99 don't rise to it. From what I have seen of that poster, it is not worth it.

That is quite shocking Ringo.
I'm sure you wouldn't want to think that the US is a hopelessly polarised, mis-happen collection of states that share little in common when it comes down to it, and further undermined by race divides. Surely nothing to die over, right?

RingoJuice · 04/03/2025 13:30

A lot of anger here, but I’m being realistic. I think you will have a problem inspiring young men to go die in a ditch in Ukraine (this may not be a bad thing tbh).

If you don’t have male children, consider that you may be sending the children of other people to go die in those ditches.

I think this will be a real problem in all Western countries moving forward, because I know for a fact that Chinese people will NOT have this problem. They are taught from birth to respect and love their country (and are told their country loves them, regardless of the reality of things)

I actually do think this has become a reality in the USA. The government abused the trust and patriotism of everyday Americans during the 2nd Gulf War.

It is well-known that the military in America is having a recruitment crisis, the traditional families that would send their young males have increasingly warned them away. It’s a very real problem for ALL western countries

This is very tiresome. My views are actually very typical for a somewhat conservative American

Well, you somewhat conservative Americans do seem to be rather fond of Putin right now.

IthinkIamAnAlien · 04/03/2025 13:43

I'm sorry, can't resist saying that this debate reminds me of my mother saying more than once, having surivived World War 2 in the UK, that the US only got involved once Pearl Harbour (Dec 1941) had happened and then they were swamped with over-fed, over sexed American GIs who thought they were the bees knees and claimed that their arrival saved Europe when the British and their allies had been fighting since 1939!

How long for? Putin’s not renowned for reliability or consistency. God help you when he changes his mind.

JoyousGreyOrca · 04/03/2025 13:50

We would not have conscription in Britain unless there was a major threat to Britain. If that was the case, yes people would sign up.

I don’t care if Putin cares. We don’t even think about him.

They wouldn’t have any choice if there was conscription. As @RingoJuice probably knows first hand if, as I suspect, he’s old enough to remember Vietnam.

That sums up the current trajectory of USA policy nicely. Who cares who you get in bed with, as long as there's money in it for the rich and powerful.

Unless you are one of the rich and powerful, you are being mugged off by the MAGA shit.

First I’m Russian, now you think I’m an old man? Someone else was accusing me in another thread of being a retired general.

Honestly, I wanted to give an American perspective on the Ukrainian issue as the UK-US approach is becoming so very divergent. And I’m just getting personally attacked and my motives questioned—and this for a very common view in my home country. Is this how you handle genuine discussion?

Oh spare us the DARVO attempt.
