To think the most tedious everyday 'chore' is...

Brushing teeth. I've always hated doing it and found it a tedious job to do twice a day. I don't mind other hygiene 'chores' so much but this is just the worst.

Ugh everything housework related but in particular hanging up washing.

It takes so long, especially in the winter when on screens and you have to try and pair socks to make sure you don't go hunting for matches when it's dry.

Also hoovering and cleaning bathrooms.

I hate it all really.

Also forgot about emptying the dishwasher and all the plastic bits that never dry, which you then need to put on draining board and put away later or dry with towel which is just an extra bloody job.

Itsalwaysfools · 12/01/2025 19:18

For everyone who hates hoovering the stairs, use one of those little scraper things instead. So much easier than wrangling a hoover and does a much better job.

DoYouReally · 12/01/2025 19:19

Drying my hair - it's long & thick - 45 mins even with good hairdryer. Thankfully only twice a week but it's tedious.

MoodySky · 12/01/2025 19:27

All housework is tedious and soul-destroying.

Ironing, hoovering, sweeping, dishwasher, washing, cooking, clearing up after cooking ... it's all shit.

Finetoday · 12/01/2025 19:32

Deciding what to cook for evening meal.
Every. Single. Day.

Also hate ironing fitted sheets but hate the feel of unironed bedding 😭

And washing and drying boring hair.

powershowerforanhour · 12/01/2025 19:32

Cleaning of general crud. I don't mind picking the hair out of the shower trap but I don't like cleaning it when it is biofilmy and manky. The crud at the bottom of the dishwasher and seals. Washing machine seals. Crud at the back of taps and round the edges of the kitchen floor. The oily crud on the extractor fan. Kitchen splatter. Fridge splatter. I don't really mind doing these tasks per se it's just the sinking feeling that the effect doesn't last and that crud is acculumating while I am working , doing other housework or just taking time to myself. It's so unsightly and builds up so quickly.

YourChirpyFatball · 12/01/2025 19:34

Mine would be (as an ex cleaner) removing heavy feather filled cushions, sweeping the crumbs off loose covers from settees. Replacing them, plumping them up. Placing cushions. Bonus annoyance if throws are involved.🤬

Miniaturemom · 12/01/2025 19:36

Not every day but agree hate hate hate changing the beds. I’m 5ft tall with a thumb sucking child who constantly gets threadworms, so I’m having to change them constantly right now. I can’t reach and it’s so awkward grrrr.

BunnyLake · 12/01/2025 19:38

Dishes. Even having a dishwasher it’s a relentless cycle of emptying and filling and surplus dishes by the sink. It feels like a full time dishwasher job most days.

Nothatgingerpirate · 12/01/2025 19:38

Getting up....😂
Dusting, really.
I hate dust.

Styling my curly hair. Utterly tedious and I have to do it lots of it upside down so it hurts my back.

All things to do with the planning, preparing and tidying away of food. I wish we could all just take a daily pill that met all of our nutritional needs.

Also, the admin involved in getting ready to go to bed. I call this ‘bedmin’ and I really have to gear myself up for it each evening. Checking the doors, cleaning teeth, skincare, toilet, untucking the bed blah, blah, blah. In reality it takes about 15 minutes, in my mind it takes 15 hours.

All of this

My only tips are
Diffusing - I lie on the bed and hang my head off the edge
Skincare I get done early, more time for it on my skin. Usually before I sit down and watch some TV for the evening so it can be 6-7pm ish

Getting ready for bed. The whole routine is annoying as I just want to be in bed instantly not doing teeth, removing make up, sorting out dog. Bah!

This, I swear my Ddog takes 10x longer in the garden for his bedtime wee as he knows I'm knackered and desperately need my bed:
Yes yes, of course Ddog, don't go out out, have a piss/Shit and come straight back in,
Ooohhh no no no no,
You go round and sniff every blade of grass, fence post while I watch you freezing my tits off and eyeballs stinging,
Sometimes I am convinced he looks at me and thinks ' fuck you, maybe next time you call me fatty bum bum and deny me unlimited access to the treat jar, you will think twice, who's is in charge now dickhead' Confused

Hoovering the stairs.

I got a really light, quite powerful, easily emptied hand held vacuum for the stairs. Takes 5 mins. Or less.

Goldenphoenix · 12/01/2025 20:34

Cooking dinner every fecking day. It's always like groundhog day and I hate having to think about what to cook and then cook it when I just want to sit down after work.

Changing bedlinen too, dread it!

Deciding what to make for tea every night!

Itsaswelltime · 12/01/2025 21:00

For those who hate deciding what to cook for dinner, I meal plan once a week before we go shopping, which is after work on Fridays.
In winter/cold weather,
Friday dinner is always fish, usually with potato and one or two easy vegetables (peas, carrots, green beans) or we start with vegetable soup then just have the fish and potato.
Saturday lunch is either pasta or toasted sandwiches (we have a Breville type machine) with crudités.
Sunday lunch is always eggs, as DS and I go to sport in the morning then get home starving so they are quick to prepare.
Tuesday dinner is something that we can keep in the oven for DD as she gets home late after her sport, typically lasagne or a quiche and we always have broccoli as DS loves it but DD hates it (she gets some carrot or cucumber sticks or cherry tomatoes instead).
Wednesday is often homemade pizza as DS doesn’t have school in the afternoon (just 1 hour of tennis) so it gives him something to do!
Thursday is usually filled ravioli as I go out for my sport and DH can prepare it quickly; DH and the DCs love it whereas I’m not fussed.

So Saturday, Sunday and Monday dinners are the only ones that require ´thought’ when making the shopping list.

Definitely harder in winter as fewer salads which to me seem like less work.

Cooking. Or possibly just the deciding what to cook bit. Hate it.

Yeah the " what shall we have for dinner " thoughts every bloody day

I stand on one leg while I brush my teeth- good for balance and adds a little frisson.

I do this and the NYT connections game!

DuesToTheDirt · 12/01/2025 21:03

Dusting.

Imnotarestaurant · 12/01/2025 21:03

I love brushing my teeth!! Making packed lunches on the other hand 😔

Crazycatlady79 · 12/01/2025 21:04

Putting away laundry AND washing up. My soul dies a little each time I do either.

NippyNinjaCrab · 12/01/2025 21:12

Picking up the dog poo from the garden.
Emptying the washing machine when it's socks!.
Washing and drying my stupid hair (that should be number one)
Navigating round trolleys in supermarkets.
Doing the dishes
Emptying the bin
Going for fuel.
Doing the last dog toilet run before bed as one of the brats is a star gazer 😂

Brickiscool · 12/01/2025 21:16

Wow I've never even considered teeth cleaning to be a chore.

Making packed lunches though OMG worse chore ever

echt · 12/01/2025 21:40
