To think the most tedious everyday 'chore' is...

Brushing teeth. I've always hated doing it and found it a tedious job to do twice a day. I don't mind other hygiene 'chores' so much but this is just the worst.

Cooking. Hate the mental load required to decide what to eat, budgeting, shopping for it and actually cooking it and then storing leftovers, fussy kids, trying to wean the baby, all the mess etc.

I feel like being an adult is basically deciding what to eat 3 times a day for the rest of your life. It wasn't something I had to give much headspace to before having kids but now it seems to be a constant source of stress trying to please everyone and still make sure it's nutrious and healthy enough for three children to be raised on. I'm not a natural foodie and resent having to stop what I'm doing to prepare food when I'd be happy to just eat to live whereas my family seem to want to live to eat.

I wish I was one of those mums who enjoyed cooking and didn't find it stressful to whip up something tasty at short notice.

Any form of cleaning, waste of time as 6 months later it needs doing again.

Never had a problem with putting away clean washing, I just do my own. I trained a 3-year-old to do it by making it a game. Just left DH's lying around - eventually got the message - although he did get the toddler to pair his socks for him.

Youngheartsalittletogetherness · 12/01/2025 18:25

Hanging up washing on the clothes horse.
Hoovering.

CrochetMadRosie · 12/01/2025 18:25

Clearing up crumbs... I often shout 'I HATE CRUMBS!' in the hope that other people will clear up after themselves!!

They seem to remember for a few days, then we're back to crumbs
everywhere from toast... aaaagh!

I actually like ironing!!

🤣🤣🤣 trying this tonight. Like to live life on the edge!

Add in pelvic floor exercises and you're living the dream 🤣

TigerRag · 12/01/2025 18:25

Putting washing away. Or rather trying to match socks as I'm colourblind. And ending up with so many odd ones

Fluffinghell · 12/01/2025 18:25

Changing beds, and getting the logs in. Getting logs in is OK on dry days, but hate doing it on grey wet days.

BrooookeDavis · 12/01/2025 18:27

Putting the washing away 🥱

Blue278 · 12/01/2025 18:27

Changing beds. Four beds is six loads of washing then it’s a bloody pain to wrangle all those stupid covers and sheets on and off those giant heavy duvets and mattresses. They’re not even actually ‘dirty’.
I want to live in my own in a cave on a pile of blankets in a corner.
Hairwashing and drying and styling can get in the bin as well. It’s all so pointless.

LunaNorth · 12/01/2025 18:28

Putting shopping away.
Having a wee. It’s bloody endless.
Cleaning teeth.
Cleaning shoes. At this time of year it’s just endless mud.

How do some MNers not iron anything?
Do they live in polyester, or are happy looking scruffy ?

''Method'' do a really good 'no rinse' spray that can be squeegeed off- we live in a hard water area, so any droplets left to dry without a squeegee and the Method stuff would show.

I've heard white vinegar works as well, but less pleasant smelling.

delphinedupont · 12/01/2025 18:30

meal planning is the bane of my life. I batch cook and prep so that’s never a big issue but planning? Does my head in. I feel like I get asked what’s for tea about a million times a week. I saved a thread recently about people’s midweek meals so I’m going to work through that to take some load off. And folding/putting away dry laundry. It’s so boring.

arcticpandas · 12/01/2025 18:31

I would have to say dusting since it's the only chore I tend to "forget" all the time..

I've stopped ironing about 80% of clothes. Just take out the machine and give a good shake before putting it out to dry.

Yes some items look creased but I've just stopped caring that I look scruffy. I found ironing too time consuming and there are more interesting things I'd rather do.

FKAT · 12/01/2025 18:37

For meal prep haters, I always take comfort from this interview with Aretha Franklin. Even the queen of soul got sick of sorting out dinner.

I used to think this when all four kids were young but now I rarely iron. None of son’s gym or work stuff needs ironing. I put clothes on extra spin and either line dry in summer or put to dry on airier carefully and maybe use drier to get last few creases out.
Don’t think I look scruffy 😂

Muchtoomuchtodo · 12/01/2025 18:37

Mopping the floors. No idea why I hate doing it so much but I really do. It definitely doesn’t get done daily though!

Cotton sheets pegged on the washing line in a bracing Westerly wind crack themselves dry and have barely a crease in them, especially if it's sunny.

WildestDreamer · 12/01/2025 18:38

Making lunch, every day it’s the same conversation- ‘what do you want?’, ‘I dunno’ and then around and around in circles till we give up and have another boring sandwich!

You leave 6 months between cleaning?😳

Just naked all the time.

blackbird77 · 12/01/2025 18:39

Brushing teeth is so boring. Drying hair even worse. Changing the bedsheets is my least favourite chore though. So tedious. Appreciate it’s not daily though.

FreshAirForwards · 12/01/2025 18:41

Vacuuming the stairs - aaaargh!
Ginger cat, darl purple carpet (I know! Not my choice but too extensive to replace right now), 3 storey house. It’s never ending. He also loves to shred cardboard from the recycling and distribute it around the house. I have a robot vac on each floor, but they can’t handle the stairs. It is back breaking.
