And German politics and just focus on the President he’s already paid for and turning X into a toxic wasteland.

I'm supporting the democratic process "love"

And what an outdated undemocratic process it is.

More people didn't vote for Labour than did. But we are stuck with them now or for much longer if/when they change the voting requirements.

If what you say is true, you should be pleased Musk is now giving the issue more widespread attention.
Sorry, but I can't see any negatives in someone highlighting horrendous, historic child abuse.

The horrific abuser and rapist who Musk and others drew attention to on Twitter was successfully prosecuted in 2013 along with rest of the Oxford gang. Starmer was DPP at the time. Musk seems to be ignorant of the facts.

bostonchamps · 03/01/2025 13:03

I don't disagree with the sentiment of his calls, but if people genuinely lack the critical thinking skills to question why he's being vocal about this now, and why having a figure like him bandy around words like 'monarch' 'dissolve' and 'parliament' is problematic then I do worry about the future of this country.

People use their vast wealth to influence elections ALL the time. It is an utterly mundane fact. You only care or notice when it doesn't suit you.

Too true. How often do we see Bill Gates meeting with politicians/Heads of State, and there never seems to be much transparency about what was discussed.

30percent · 03/01/2025 13:11

Why does this post come after he tweeted about the girls being raped in Oldham? Kind of fucked up that you're so upset about someone raising awareness about that. Im not a fan of the man either but suspicious timing for this post.

This is the kind of mindset that allowed it to go on for so long let me guess you think it's "racist" to look into it too much

Betchyaby · 03/01/2025 13:11

OP were you outraged when Labour interfered with the US election?

Jumpingthruhoops · 03/01/2025 13:14

PandoraSox · 03/01/2025 12:40

I see you are ignoring my post above @Jumpingthruhoops
The reiterate:

The court papers you referred to that have been all over Twitter were from comments made by Judge Peter Rook QC on 27 Jun 2013 on the Oxford grooming gang case.

ETA: Mohammed Karrar, who is the rapist mentioned in the court papers, was given a life sentence of at least 20 years

Starmer was DPP at the time the prosecutions were made.

What does he need to be held to account for?

Edited

Jeez, calm down... you only posted that at 12.27... it might surprise you to learn that most of us don't spend our lives on MN!

But in answer to your question... Starmer was DoPP between 2008 and 2013. Greater Manchester Police later apologised for 'failing to investigate the child sexual exploitation allegations more thoroughly between 2008 and 2010'.

Starmer would have been across this entire investigation and how it was - or indeed wasn't! - being handled. THAT'S the question people want answers to by way of a national inquiry.
But the Labour govt - with Starmer at the helm - don't want one.
Hmm, funny that.

Coolasfeck · 03/01/2025 13:16

It’s scary to think how many people are ok with the fact the world is becoming the plaything and subject to the whims of a bored, drug addled and apparently friendless, almost trillionaire who’s throwing a tantrum because one of his 12+ kids is trans.

He’s a 21st century Caligula.

The American’s underestimated how much power he has over Trump. His boy Vance is waiting in the wings. We saw how he treated his workers on California. We know he wants American workers replaced with indentured servants on precarious visa’s.

He cares for nothing apart from the accumulation of money for himself like some sort of crazy obsession. He doesn’t care about the girls of Oldham, he wants to damage our elected government.

Regardless of whether you voted Labour or not, our country is based on OUR citizens voting for who is in charge. Even if you hate Labour, ceding our countries trajectory to a foreign based billionaire who cares nothing for our for us is bonkers.

The Americans will soon find out whether Musk gives a shit about their country. He will run it into the ground then move someone else. Trump will back him because Musk has paid off his debts and kept him out of jail which is all he wanted.

It also came at the same time he tweeted telling everyone to vote Reform, posted disinformation about Starmer, and said that the King should dissolve parliament.

Why are you just focusing on one bit of what Musk has tweeted recently?

What do you think about Musk's tweet calling for Tommy Robinson to be released?

How was Starmer as DPP responsible for the failings of GMP?

Starmer would have been across this entire investigation and how it was - or indeed wasn't! - being handled

Of course he wouldn't. The CPS make decisions on whether to prosecute. It is the job of the police to investigate, not the CPS/ DPP.

You have conveniently ignored my questions about the court papers you referred to. Ah well. I will leave you to rant away about Starmer.

They got more votes than any other party, they returned more candidates and control parliament.

The number of people who voted for other parties is completely immaterial as those votes were split between numerous different parties.

Our politicians utterly fail us. Musk is holding them to account.

Then it’s up to us, the British electorate, to hold them to account. Not an American trillionaire with a power complex.

Wait till Reform score electoral victory. Rather than supporting them to execute their manifesto on the strength of their democratic mandate I suspect you'll be here commiserating with everyone else who feel it is unjust to make sweeping social changes on the basis of a small % of the electorates preference.

Hang on, am I not still waiting for you to define democracy?

Sure. But there was a very active Mumsnet thread just yesterday about the rape gangs in Oldham. Musk posts a lot of shit constantly bit weird how this thread follows the one about Oldham a day after musk raised awareness.

Dislike the man if you want I do too but if you see an issue with someone raising awareness about the rape gangs then you are part of the problem.

So foreigners like musk apparently aren't allowed to speak on UK politics because they aren't British but these same idiots don't want it mentioned how foreign men come here and rape our daughters.

Make it make sense a lot of people are starting to get pissed off

No need for me to 'educate myself' I am fully aware of how our system works, hence my remark on how it is outdated and evidently not fit for purpose.

Regardless of your links and condescending tone, the point still stands: more people in this country did not vote for Labour than did. It's a plain and simple fact.

itsgettingweird · 03/01/2025 13:34

Elon is needed more than ever because of people like you who only want one particular narrative discussed.

No. He's not posting with good intentions or even the truth.

Has anyone read the court papers he's linked to?

The crimes are vile. The person committing then received a life sentence.

Whilst Starmer was DPP.

He's just posting sensationalist headlines without complete fact and whipping up the crowds.

No one denies what has happened is heinous. But he needs to practice what he preaches and keep out if foreign politics - especially when the intention isn't to create a better country it's to rip one to shreds by appealing to far edge groups.

itsgettingweird · 03/01/2025 13:36

noblegiraffe · 03/01/2025 11:29

Tweeting 'Free Tommy Robinson' just shows what an utterly shallow assessment of any situation he will have before he is willing to post to millions about it. Nigel Farage must be nervous as Musk posting 'Vote Reform' and 'Free Tommy Robinson' in the same day is not a good look for Reform who are trying to market themselves as a proper political party and not just a bunch of racists. If he does now accept a donation from Musk, it will be tainted by that association.

Interestingly the right wing of our country have asked him to not endorse releasing TR.

It's a pointless fact and does not remove the legitimacy of the current government.

And frankly, it's for everyone to educate themselves, education and knowledge is a good thing. You should try it

noblegiraffe · 03/01/2025 13:38

This is trite nonsense. If someone is 'raising awareness' about the rape gangs because they are peddling racist nonsense, or to gain political power, or to try to paint Britain as a 'cautionary tale' while paying scant attention to the facts, rather than out of genuine desire to support the victims and bring the perpetrators (whatever race they are) to justice, then they are certainly not helpful.
