And German politics and just focus on the President he’s already paid for and turning X into a toxic wasteland.

Wealthy people are, in fact, allowed to have opinions.

I bought a Tesla years ago back when it wasn’t known he’d turn into an arch Bond villain type, and won’t be selling it. He didn’t even invent it, he bought the tech from someone else.

If you had a go at me I’d laugh in your face for being a crank.

P.S. we usually have no idea about the people who own the companies of the products we use. Who’s to say the owner of your cars company isn’t an active Nazi?

Back on topic, he’ll have his paid bots on here stating it’s great to have him involved but no sane British person wants a billionaire foreigner strong arming our elected government from abroad. He already owns the US and the America will soon find out when he drives down their employment rights even further that they are fucked.

me too.

MilitantFawcett · 03/01/2025 11:39

Rich narcissists gonna narc but I don’t like any powerful foreign POLITICIAN seeking to interfere in our governance. And yes I said the same when Obama did it over Brexit, even as a remain-voting lefty.

I completely agree with this. However this has been happening in the shadows, money, has and always will, talks.

Elon ruined twitter - which was a fantastic place for free speech. He doesn't give a shit about free speech. He wanted twitter to be a more divisive place and it is.

He has an agenda, and it won't serve anyone else but him.

We have free speech in this country, we have a free press, and there's normally interesting back and forth here. Not the brigading that you're doing.

Did you miss the Twitter files? Are you OK with US three letter agencies being embedded in SM companies to make sure you only hear what they want you to hear?

Twitter was only a great place for free speech if you had the "right" opinions.

Elon is needed more than ever

Elon isn't "needed". Even if you have no issue with him, he isn't needed

Comtesse · 03/01/2025 11:49

I would be completely ok with Elon Musk staying out if politics all together tbh - what a tool that man is.

RJnomore1 · 03/01/2025 11:52

Best thing that could happen all round us if musk got on one of his own spaceships and headed off to Mars taking all his cronies with him. How people are falling for these conning self serving grifters amazes me.

NOTANUM · 03/01/2025 11:55

I agree and am worried that his core base are those who don’t do their research or read alternative views.

IsadoraQuagmire · 03/01/2025 11:56

lillylallylu · 03/01/2025 11:31

@Gatecrashermum Twitter was a great place for
free speech before Musk? Seriously? Which version of Twitter were you using, cos mine deleted people for saying that women don't have penises before Elon came along.

Quite. I was suspended for a while for calling that creepy male swimmer "Lia" something, a man.

We have been living in the era of No Debate - universities cancel contentious speakers and stop legal debates.

The information coming out about a institutional cover up of a child abuse ring is because of twitter .

The use of terms such as 'grooming' and 'Asian' are all designed to distort reality.

Twitter is allowing more information through - the algorithms have always been controlled, it's just pre-X people on this thread agreed with the censorship.

Jumpingthruhoops · 03/01/2025 11:58

Why? Musk is right: there absolutely should be an inquiry into Starmer's handling of the grooming scandal when he was DoPP.

Your post says WAY more about you than it does about him...

Xenia · 03/01/2025 12:00

He is free to express his views. That is what I want - lots of different views - no one dictator as some countries have. It is one reason I quite like having a few non elected peers in the HL too as they often take a 300 year view. Wealthy tech companies in a sense are an other check and balance - another view.

The fact Mr Musk's views are usually pretty sensible from my point of view helps but even if he had a totally different view I would support his freedom of expression.

kirbykirby · 03/01/2025 12:01

It's incredible how little few people outside the UK knew about the rape gangs until it went viral on X. I'm pleased that more people will now know how what happened (and is likely still happening) to these girls and how subsequent governments ignored them. It's an absolute disgrace. I hope this become bigger and bigger. It's a massive scandal that this has been allowed to happen.

Lightswitchup · 03/01/2025 12:02

I wish he would just wind his neck in and mind his own business.

User135644 · 03/01/2025 12:02

Our politicians utterly fail us. Musk is holding them to account.

Magnastorm · 03/01/2025 12:03

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 03/01/2025 11:23

What? Shutting down free speech?

Elon is needed more than ever because of people like you who only want one particular narrative discussed.

No, what we need is informed, intellegent and invested people with knowledge of the issues on BOTH sides of the debate.

Not narcissist, popularist twats using incredibly important and complicated issues as an excuse to try to undermine the government of a country he has no interest in apart from how many of his shitty cars he sells.

Dominic grieve (not know for being a Labour crony, he is an ex Tory mp) had a good response to this on x

The Crown Prosecution Service does indeed have to give approval for police to charge suspects in serious crimes.
But where is the evidence that when Keir Starmer was Director of Public Prosecutions the CPS wrongly refused such consents in rape and child grooming cases? There is none.
On the contrary Starmer was pro-active in focussing on this type of crime as @nazirafzal has correctly highlighted. There may well have been failures to address this issue elsewhere through reporting and investigation but that is not the role of the CPS.
Baseless innuendo does not contribute to serous debate.

kirbykirby · 03/01/2025 12:05

Annabella92 · 03/01/2025 11:26

Sure. As long as the Open Society Foundation and all the international NGOs stay out of UK politics. But I imagine you don't actually mind their involvement. Don't pretend you give a rats arse about the nation state when it suits you because 99% you're quite happy with it. You reap what you sow. Enjoy.

Edited

This.

Applepoop · 03/01/2025 12:05

YANBU.

But we also should consider how and why he has got tangled up in UK politics.

It's because both main our main parties are weak, hypocritical and all round useless. Voters have nowhere to go, politically - blue morons or red morons - no thanks.

So they might vote for a Musk backed Farage. And the far right get in the same way they always have. Through the total incompetence of the mainstream parties.

Either Labour or Conservative are electable if they get their shit together, get a decent leader, decent chancellor and move their left/right ideology towards the centre to appeal more broadly and bring people together rather than divide them.

User135644 · 03/01/2025 12:05

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 03/01/2025 11:33

Community notes have been an excellent addition.

Twitter was only a place for left free speech.

There has always been interference from wealthy parties, people must realise this.

It was OK when it was Murdoch deciding our elections. Now it's Musk and people are losing their shit.
