And German politics and just focus on the President he’s already paid for and turning X into a toxic wasteland.

GTTO was the strategy

Sorry GTTO? Can you clarify - not familiar

So therefore, by extension it wouldn’t have been the reason Starmer won the last election.

Again nobody said it was the sole reason. It was made the mess left behind by Corbyn electable. The Labour Party went from its worst electoral result in history to its best in less than five years, that doesn’t happen without transformative leadership.

GTTO = Get The Tories Out

Feelingathomenow · 05/01/2025 21:09

How do you think it happened? A miracle?

Thanks - yes that was basically it. It certainly wasn’t get labour in

Yes i was What would make you think that I wasn’t?

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/01/2025 21:13

GTTO was a massive movement. Can't believe you missed it.

No, they were the obvious alternative vote in people’s minds as for a long time most people think the only two potential governments are Labour or conservatives

OneLemonDog · 05/01/2025 21:14

A bit of a segway but there is one potential high-profile political split that i expect to come to the forefront in the next 12 months - between Musk and MAGA.

A globalist like Musk was always a strange person to be at the forefront of an isolationist movement. It can work in a campaign, but that alliance is going to fracture badly in government (it already seems to be creaking, and Trump hasnt even taken office). Trump is in a tricky spot, in that respect, because Musk has proven an extremely powerful ally and may (its hard to quantify) have been crucial to Trump's election. I think Trump needs Musk more than Musk needs Trump.

It wasn’t an acronym I remember- maybe because I don’t get swept up with mass movements

I think that last sentence is very accurate

But they weren’t the obvious alternative, hence the LibDems getting 72 seats.

It was a strategy for winning a huge parliamentary majority for Labour - so in that respect was very successful

Yes it’s going to be a challenge because I don’t think a lot of Trump’s colleagues in Congress or the Senate agree with Musk. They are nationalist and hate migration. The visa thing was a precursor.

This is the same stuff as came out due to the riots. It’s a forthcoming race war etc

Nasty. Wanting conflict

That was Elon. Apparently the UK needs to:

  1. Have a civil war
  2. Have King Charles dramatically dissolve parliament
  3. Have another election
  4. Have another inquiry into the grooming scandal because he wasn't there to oversee the first.

I am not sure of the exact order this all needs to happen in. I guess step three comes after step 2. But even a "quick" civil war would take at least a year and the same for an inquiry. Personally I think that the UK should implement the recommendations of the inquiry they already did as soon as possible and put resources into strengthening safeguarding (and towards vulnerable/looked after children). Maybe after that we could crack on with the stuff in the list. Like, do the civil war properly once we have sorted out all the really pressing stuff. Then we can properly give it our full attention and not rush it. If we do it the way round that Musk/posters here want then any children currently being abused will be adults by the time we have finished with Musks list. Which (despite my flippant tone) would be bad. But at least he cares guys!!!

But if you look at the popular vote they really didn’t get that many votes. We had our Tory MP replaced by a Lib Dem. They were the beneficiaries of areas so in Labour it was never going to happen so there was very little investment/visibility of Labour candidates in those areas

I forgot! Also...

Lock up Jess Phillips (not sure if there needs to be a trial)
Free SYL.

Its actually quite a long to do list!

randomchap · 05/01/2025 21:22

No civil war please, last one we had they cancelled Christmas and Theatre

BIossomtoes · 05/01/2025 21:22

We don’t have a popular vote. There was a lot of tactical voting thanks to GTTO.

It’s good though that intelligent people can distinguish the valid points he makes from the crap. Critical thinking is hanging on in there, despite best efforts

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/01/2025 21:23

You don't have to swept up in something to be aware of it. And GTTO was really big in the run up to the election.

Weird it completely passed you by @Feelingathomenow.

Yes I’m in certain areas the only vote people could bring themselves to make was Lib Dem’s as Labour were just too terrible to contemplate
