To want to take down Christmas decorations on 31stDec

We’ve had tree and Christmas decorations up since early December. I’m so ready to take them down now and get the house back to normal, but DH says it’s way too early and how could I think that was usual. Out of interest, do you keep your tree etc until 6 January?

Mine are down

NippyChippy14 · 31/12/2024 08:26

Took mine down on 27th 😁

LuckysDadsHat · 31/12/2024 08:27

Mine came down yesterday. They are always down for new year, but I'm not so keen to get them down boxing day like some do.

Kath85 · 31/12/2024 08:27

Nope, ours came down on the 28th. They are Christmas decorations not NY decorations 😊

Itisallgoingtobeok · 31/12/2024 08:27

Mine came down on the 27th Dec. People do all sorts to suit themselves from the two extremes of not decorating and leaving them up all the time to everything in between. I don't think there is a "normal". Do whatever suits your family.

JustFrustrated · 31/12/2024 08:27

Mine came down yesterday.
I'm back at work Thursday.
I was struggling because of the lack of organisation in the house with them being up.

Danikm151 · 31/12/2024 08:27

I wanted to take mine down the other day but my 4 year old says we have to wait till “Happy New ear” 😂

WoahThreeAces · 31/12/2024 08:27

Will start taking stuff down today and finish tomorrow. Can't be doing with Christmas in January

TeenToTwenties · 31/12/2024 08:28

4 weeks is more than enough.
Which is why ours have only been up 10 days so far.

WomenInConstruction · 31/12/2024 08:28

Take them down whenever you want. They are supposed to make things feel festive and lovely, if they've started to make things feel crowded and cluttered then it's time!

oustedbymymate · 31/12/2024 08:28

Mine are down

ThejoyofNC · 31/12/2024 08:28

Mine are all down

Zinglenibber · 31/12/2024 08:28

I took mine down on the 27th. Normally I leave them until 12th night but I just wasn't feeling it this year.

AppleKatie · 31/12/2024 08:28

Mine will stay up til Friday/Saturday this week.

i wouldn’t take them down today it’s New Year’s Eve and supposed to feel special not flat!

I don’t really get the ‘take them down as soon as I’ve finished my turkey’ fashion, but if I did I still wouldn’t do it on actual New Year’s Eve.

JimHalpertsWife · 31/12/2024 08:29

Ours come down 27th. We have kids, and a teacher dh so by Christmas day, we've had a full month of festive buildup. Pantos, Christmas jumper days Christmas lunches etc.

Taking it all down on 27th gives us a nice full week of calm and tidy living room to relax in.

Figgygal · 31/12/2024 08:29

Ours are coming down today
Out tomorrow and back to work Thursday want them down before going into the new year.

AuntieMarys · 31/12/2024 08:30

I didn't put mine up this year but in previous years 15th to 27th

why0whydear · 31/12/2024 08:31

I normally keep it till 2-3 Jan or the first weekend. Last year took down on 27/28. And whole of this year was quite shitty personally, financially, health wise.

I am being super cautious for some reason and I guess extremely superstitious about traditions and keeping guard about health and well being especially.

PuppyMonkey · 31/12/2024 08:31

I woke up early this morning with the thought of taking them all down in my head. My DDs (grown) told me I shouldn’t take them down yet but they’re both going out today/tonight so I know exactly what I’ll be doing later. Grin

Theimpossiblegirl · 31/12/2024 08:31

Everything but the trees and outside lights come down today. Then it's the 4th for them.

Although before that last big storm I had some lights that stayed up all year.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 31/12/2024 08:31

Mine will come down on 2nd January, after our NY guests have left. If people are sick of them already, why do they put them up so early? Mine go up on about the 15th.

Upstartled · 31/12/2024 08:31

I rarely make it to the sixth, who wants to risk not having the time that day and getting bad luck for the rest of the year?

But I won't put them down until at least the second. I like to celebrate the New Year with a bit of bling.

Holymotherforkingshirtballs · 31/12/2024 08:32

Ours will stay up until this weekend. Usually leave them up until the weekend nearest 12th night.

misspositivepants · 31/12/2024 08:32

Will be taking them down on Saturday this year

TheSandgroper · 31/12/2024 08:33

Ours came down the other day before we came away. God love DH, he put them up and took them all down.

But my nativities will stay up until Epiphany.
