It's 3pm and already we've had people trick n treating. I've now brought pumpkins inside until 5ish. Anyone else?

Surely for little kids from 3pm is ok?
id rather a start early finish early when it comes to trick or treaters

comedycentral · 31/10/2024 15:11

I've left sweets out because I don't finish work until later.

Parry5timesbeforedeath · 31/10/2024 15:11

we have just brought our pumpkins out because I saw mums with very teeny kids out. So we are now sitting and waiting! tbf though we have never had a huge number of people knocking…. i think our record was around 15 because we are quite rural so doubt we will run out of sweets anytime soon.

ObtuseMoose · 31/10/2024 15:11

Is it a time limited event?

Why, you big meanie! 😂

doodleygirl · 31/10/2024 15:11

just open the door and give them sweets, why is it a problem?

YouveGotAFastCar · 31/10/2024 15:12

We don't get any, but there's been lots of chat about if 3pm is okay in the local Facebook group, or if people need to wait until 5:30 when it's darker and people are home from work. I'm not sure there's too much of a consensus but I'd probably presume that anyone with a lit pumpkin was home and happy to be knocked.

AHFBridport · 31/10/2024 15:13

Oh, I saw a grim reaper and a demon outside earlier, thought they were just on their way to an afternoon party - didn't occur that they might be trick or treating this early. I put my stuff in the window/outside at 5pm as a rule, but it's half term so might bring it forward.

Itiswhysofew · 31/10/2024 15:13

They don't appear until dark where I live, even the very little ones. Mind you, there wasn't even one caller last year.

Cause I can't put up with the dog going mad, these kids weren't tiny. I'll put um back out in a hour.

The littlest ones go out at 5:30. 3 is too early, we are still working.

very pro-trick or treating, but there ARE rules of etiquette.

BarbaraHoward · 31/10/2024 15:15

No it's shite craic here. We'll get a few knocks around 6 and that'll be it.

PiggyPigalle · 31/10/2024 15:15

What tricks do they have ready?

GroovyChick87 · 31/10/2024 15:16

It is early. I haven't got anything ready yet but I'd still go and give them some sweets.

Positivenancy · 31/10/2024 15:16

This is the great thing about living rurally 🙌 no one calls 😆 I’ll drive my dc to the next village and go to the estate there. Best of both worlds!

ByMerryKoala · 31/10/2024 15:18

And, so it begins. I love a bit of po faced MN. Just place marking for when I'm trailing behind a pack of Halloweeners who are too little to go out without an adult and too big to look like they are going out with an adult. Don't let me down.

OldTinHat · 31/10/2024 15:19

I've just bobbed into town and it's full of tinies (and not so tinies!) all dressed up and excited.

I would think now is a perfect time for younger children to go out instead of after tea and being too hyper for bed!

Joycedelight · 31/10/2024 15:19

It all starts around 5pm here. Wouldn't be ready for people knocking at 3pm. People are still working.

wiesowarum · 31/10/2024 15:22

3pm is far too early.
The norm was to wait until at least 6pm when we were kids. Some folk will be out/working/working from home at that time.

RoseAndRose · 31/10/2024 15:24

3pm strikes me as too early (lots of people still at work or coming back from a day out)

Also, I think it's best done after dark Halloween Grin

Perfect to go put doesn't mean perfect to arrive at someone's door.

LetsChaseTrees · 31/10/2024 15:25

We’ve always waited until 5.30/6 to give people time to get home from work. But I’ve had our sweet cauldron ready for an hour just in case! So far I’ve offered it to an Amazon driver who happily took one 😁

purplebeansprouts · 31/10/2024 15:26

I was just about to start a thread on this. Loads of people work from home or just aren't ready for this!

Are you aware that this sounds a bit, well, entitled?
