If there's a pumpkin outside it's a go where we live! 🎃

TentEntWenTyfOur · 31/10/2024 15:53

Our pumpkins will go out the front about 4.30ish. Everybody is really well-trained round here and only knock on doors when there's a pumpkin outside. Benefits of living in a v small town - everyone knows the rules!

I will light a candle in the living room window as well, since it is also Diwali.

AndrewPreview · 31/10/2024 15:53

We often get one or two before it gets properly dark (little ones on their first halloween)... it's adorable.

It's half term here so I'm expecting it to start a bit earlier but most wont be around until 6pm cos most people are at work.

wiesowarum · 31/10/2024 15:26

Are you aware that this sounds a bit, well, entitled?

How can you help being too rural for people to call? It is what it is. Presumably the poster is driving to the nearest houses!

TricksyLiesmith · 31/10/2024 15:54

After 5pm for me . I'm still working so have not had chance to set everything thing up . 3pm is too early .

Skodacool · 31/10/2024 15:54

Maybe some people prefer not to be out in the dark

shellyleppard · 31/10/2024 15:55

Not seen anyone at all 🫤 got my Sweet's all ready

@wiesowarum dear god…it’s Halloween for gods sake! It’s not like we do it every night. It’s one night a year! I’d be delighted if people called to mine in reality…but they don’t, I don’t control that. Nothing I can do about it really.

Well they shouldn't go trick or treating then!

Exactly this!

No, people drive to estates.

DBD1975 · 31/10/2024 15:56

Brilliant can't wait for it to start, the more the merrier!

Positivenancy · 31/10/2024 15:57

purplebeansprouts · 31/10/2024 15:30

Please don't do this. I live in a road that people travel to and it REALLY spoils the vibe

So my dc shouldn’t go trick or treating? How does it spoil “the vibe”?

You’ll haven’t to expect most people to still be at work then since sunset is around half 4.

VivianLea · 31/10/2024 15:57

wiesowarum · 31/10/2024 15:52

You not minding doesn't mean other people aren't taking the proverbial though. 😵‍💫

But this is their community too... Just because they live a bit further away doesn't mean they're not legitimate members of our village community. If I can take my little kids to the streets around ours, I don't see why other people can't take their little kids to the streets around their school.

Bournetilly · 31/10/2024 15:58

It’s fine, maybe better for the younger ones. They might be doing it on their way home from nursery/ school.

TheBluntTurtle · 31/10/2024 15:58

Too early! I do think it needs to be contained to within a 2 hour window or so - even if you’re happy for them to come round and have sweets you don’t want them o be disturbed for hours on end!

purplebeansprouts · 31/10/2024 15:59

TorturedParentsDepartment · 31/10/2024 15:52

Used to live on a destination street and it was lovely to see how busy it got. Round here not many houses are decorated and I forgot to buy pumpkins this year (we've been away) so although we have some sweets on standby - not expecting many.

It's awful. I want to give sweets to my neighbours not people who've driven here

SilverChampagne · 31/10/2024 16:00

Simplepink · 31/10/2024 15:09

Surely for little kids from 3pm is ok?
id rather a start early finish early when it comes to trick or treaters

No, it isn’t ok. That’s just annoying. It’s traditional to wait for dark, anyway?!

Positivenancy · 31/10/2024 16:01

Funkyslippers · 31/10/2024 15:35

Best of both worlds because you don't get any callers?

Jesus…it was tongue in cheek. I would love if I got people calling, but I don’t because I’m too far out! My dc are still entitled to call to houses for the Halloween experience so I drive 6mins to the village (the same village where they attends sports etc!) and we go to the estate there…because that’s where the houses are. It’s logic!

Screamingabdabz · 31/10/2024 16:01

Positivenancy · 31/10/2024 15:16

This is the great thing about living rurally 🙌 no one calls 😆 I’ll drive my dc to the next village and go to the estate there. Best of both worlds!

What a grabby CF attitude.

crazycatgal · 31/10/2024 16:01

We've had people knocking on since last Friday, they have all been told to come back on Halloween.

Not really bothered what time people call today but knocking a week early is bloody cheeky!

ElaborateCushion · 31/10/2024 16:02

We're prepared with a box of sweets just in case, but I'm hoping that no-one knocks (like last year) so we can keep them for ourselves! 😂

Scattery · 31/10/2024 16:03

3 is a little early, not even school let out time (if it's not half-term ofc). The littlest ones start around 4.30 here so I'll be putting my pumpkin out then.

I've got a huge bag of individualy wrapped lollipops to hand out and some backup chocolate in case there are over 100 trick or treaters. DS feels he is too old to trick or treat, but he is dressing up and plans to help me hand out candy. We've changed our doorbell tone to a spooky tone. We'll answer until we run out of candy or until 7 whichever comes first, although I think there's no chance we'll last until 7 - it's trick or treat central here!

Exactly this! We know a lot of people in that estate from school and sports clubs. But then again we’re in Ireland where people don’t seem to care about these things. Most people love Halloween here!
