It's 3pm and already we've had people trick n treating. I've now brought pumpkins inside until 5ish. Anyone else?

This is the great thing about living rurally 🙌 no one calls 😆 I’ll drive my dc to the next village and go to the estate there. Best of both worlds!

Please don't do this. I live in a road that people travel to and it REALLY spoils the vibe

IVFmumoftwo · 31/10/2024 15:32

We are going when it gets dark. A bit pointless yet.

Lickthips · 31/10/2024 15:33

Just send them away and tell them to come back later, after dark.

LlynTegid · 31/10/2024 15:33

None here. I am glad.

TheSilkWorm · 31/10/2024 15:33

3pm is way too early! 5pm onwards is expected

unicornpower · 31/10/2024 15:34

We will be out about 5.30- is that too early? Mine are 3 and 18m so not really sure what time yo go, we’ve never been before!

Agree.
I don't understand the thought process behind this at all.

Best of both worlds because you don't get any callers?

Likely the village with the school the kids go to. I wouldn't begrudge rural kids coming!

I've never actually done trick or treating before as we were really rural as kids. This is the first year I'm relenting to taking DD. Think we'll knock on her granny's at 5 Ish then go from there!

Bignanna · 31/10/2024 15:35

doodleygirl · 31/10/2024 15:11

just open the door and give them sweets, why is it a problem?

Because you’ll be inundated with loads of kids, and they’re not all nice little kids!

That's a perfect time to start imo

Wellingtonspie · 31/10/2024 15:36

We had some try around 12noon. Just a group of maybe 12 year olds. None dressed up holding what looked like food waste bags.

Saw them on the ring. We don’t have any decorations up to invite trick or tricking this year and when we have taken part they don’t go out till it’s getting dark.

wiesowarum · 31/10/2024 15:36

@unicornpower It's probably ok but expect some folk not to be ready/expect you before 6. TBH I would expect it to be slightly older children (primary school age) out too.

Where we are 5pm onward is fine. Decorated houses/houses w a pumpkin outside only.

Hankunamatata · 31/10/2024 15:38

Loads people have signs up here. Open at 5pm

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 31/10/2024 15:40

Our local pub has a party from 4pm until 6pm every year so they start coming from 6pm onwards.

Usually done by about 8pm, which is when I’m planning a massive family roast dinner.

Sillysausage76 · 31/10/2024 15:14

Cause I can't put up with the dog going mad, these kids weren't tiny. I'll put um back out in a hour.

Thought the point of it was to go out in the dark and get a bit spooked 😧
I’m with you on the dog issue - can’t wait for my dogs to start barking their heads off (not)😂

IcyLilacZebra · 31/10/2024 15:42

They can knock here whenever they like I don't celebrate it or have decorations up I actually just ignore the door and watch the camera if the door goes for a second to check and that's it lights off and no interest so I don't answer

Elphamouche · 31/10/2024 15:43

Surely it has to be dark?

I live on a trick or treat enthusiastic street but I don't mind people coming in from rural places. We live by the school so lots of the little ones go to school here, good enough for me!

You not minding doesn't mean other people aren't taking the proverbial though. 😵‍💫

TorroFerney · 31/10/2024 15:52

I’ve just put stuff out in a bowl as for little ones who are having a bath by half six this is their time!

TorturedParentsDepartment · 31/10/2024 15:52

Used to live on a destination street and it was lovely to see how busy it got. Round here not many houses are decorated and I forgot to buy pumpkins this year (we've been away) so although we have some sweets on standby - not expecting many.
