Well, you could not go to other's doors to take when you've not given anything. It's bad taste.

So rural children are not allowed to trick or treat..?! Seems a bit harsh for the sake of a few sweets!

Dear god! @wiesowarum it must be so tiring for you to think this way! Do you REALLY begrudge two kids a few sweets and a bit of fun because they live rurally? It’s sad that you would think that…really sad! What happened to you to make you feel this way? I give back to society in others ways but thanks for jumping in with your nonsensical opinions.

Yes because a few packs of sweets and an Apple or two is grabby 😂😂

It is grabby, just own it. 😆

?

I live on a council estate and lots of the houses decorate for Halloween, so we are quite busy. I’ve always taken the kids out while DH stays home to dish out the sweets. We don’t begrudge giving sweets to kids from other areas as there is a distinct lack of decorated houses in the nearby “posher” estates and streets. Trick or treating is always between 5-8 around here, whether half term or school night.

Too early
too late
etc
not to early and to late

I literally thought you was talking about the word your lol 😆 😂 teaches me for reacting in a rush!

What the "grabby" brigade don't understand is that people who do Halloween, do Halloween! I've got way more sweets to give than my kids will receive. It's fun for my kids to knock on doors, and fun for other people's kids to knock on my door. Nobody is actually "profiting" off their neighbours, it all evens out.

Except the pp who gets no visitors but sends her kids collecting. 😂

And if you must know! Yes you have struck a nerve…the house I’m living at is rented! I had no choice but to take this house as it was the only one in the area that meant I didn’t have to completely uproot my dc when I split from their dad! So I didn’t have much of a choice in the matter! They are still entitled to have a Halloween. You are being so obtuse!

Some people can suck the fun out of anything, it must be tiring.

Some people expect everyone to be like them, it must be tiring. 🫣

How about they take some stuff to give to other people they pass, instead of just taking?

You've still not explained why it's not grabby or why other peoole owe your kids a halloween experience? Do you take some things along to hand out to others too?

Nobody can find us so no point doing it. We are still doing trick or treating though.

Wellingtonspie · 31/10/2024 16:26

Such angst over a couple of bags of sweets that cost a couple of quid each. Either take part or don’t. No need to be such a mertle about it all.

What if your kids live in a flat or hostel? No trick or treat for them?

I made goody bags and dropped them to my cousins dc who live rurally too! I had another cousin drop over today and I did the same for her dc…is that ok with you @wiesowarum. you sound really mean to be honest, like what is ACTUALLY wrong with you?

CAJIE · 31/10/2024 16:27

why have we americanised Halloween? please tell them to go away.I celebrate all souls day and I dont want children badgering me or teens either. stay at home and do apple bobbing if you want but this is not a part of our culture.it was not done obsessively in England, Ireland or Scotland not to the extent of harrassment that happens now.

oakleaffy · 31/10/2024 16:28

Positivenancy · 31/10/2024 15:16

This is the great thing about living rurally 🙌 no one calls 😆 I’ll drive my dc to the next village and go to the estate there. Best of both worlds!

A lovely American I knew {Now RIP} said his Auntie lived in the Boondocks, and always had a fresh bowl of candies - but no child ever called.

He had a collection of extremely eerie early Halloween costume photos.

TBH your initial comment sounded a bit smug about not having any callers, but still going to collect from other folk, hence the replies.
As it is, there's nothing wrong with renting, it's a roof over your head.

As an Anglo Catholic we celebrate Halloween and All Souls and All Saints. You can just turn the light off and not participate. Let others do it.
