We will be out about 5.30- is that too early? Mine are 3 and 18m so not really sure what time yo go, we’ve never been before!

Any time after 5 in our area is perfectly fine.

What a grabby CF attitude.

Yes because a few packs of sweets and an Apple or two is grabby 😂😂

If you're going to be the authority, at least get your too correct. 😬

ARichtGoodDram · 31/10/2024 16:05

Starts around 4.30 here as that's when the school party usually finishes. This year the community centre party finishes at 5 so I expect it'll start then.

DD3 is absolutely hyper excited to see if we give out more than last year - which was around 175. Pre-pandemic it was 200+ so she's hoping we'll get back to that.

Myamoth · 31/10/2024 16:05

I love Halloween, even now mine are grown and gone. Our pumpkin won't go out until about 5.15pm though, as I'm not home from work until then. I would have thought you'd have a much smaller choice of houses at 3pm as a lot of people will still be out at work. I am also in a small town where everyone knows the "only call at houses with a pumpkin" rule 😀

TokyoSushi · 31/10/2024 16:06

Ha! Sweet & pumpkins ready here, although we live on a little road that looks like you're not supposed to go down so we get less! 5-7pm usually peak hours here.

Exactly this!

Years ago we stayed in a cottage in Northumberland. Properly rural. Only one house around with a glowing pumpkin. We knocked to be met by two delightfully tipsy older ladies who were so thrilled we had knocked and invited us in for ALL the sweets and a fair few gin and tonics. Best Halloween ever.

We’ve always waited until 5.30/6 to give people time to get home from work. But I’ve had our sweet cauldron ready for an hour just in case! So far I’ve offered it to an Amazon driver who happily took one 😁

Ah. That's lovely x

VivianLea · 31/10/2024 16:08

What the "grabby" brigade don't understand is that people who do Halloween, do Halloween! I've got way more sweets to give than my kids will receive. It's fun for my kids to knock on doors, and fun for other people's kids to knock on my door. Nobody is actually "profiting" off their neighbours, it all evens out.

RubyMentor · 31/10/2024 16:09

I'm going to sound like a right Moaning Minnie here but I've purposely come into the office today and then I'm going for food straight from work. Last year was horrendous where I live, people coming from God knows where, parking dangerously without and thought for residents, if a fire engine or ambulance were needed I don't know how they would have managed to pass the parked cars. We even had mini-busses of children being dropped off! It took 40 minutes for a journey that should have take less than 5 minutes to get to my house due to irresponsible parking by people who don't live on the estate.

PassingStranger · 31/10/2024 16:10

PiggyPigalle · 31/10/2024 15:15

What tricks do they have ready?

Good question. Think they just want sweets.

I’m actually perplexed at being called grabby! It’s all about the fun! I mean we will dress up!

wiesowarum · 31/10/2024 16:14

maudelovesharold · 31/10/2024 15:54

How can you help being too rural for people to call? It is what it is. Presumably the poster is driving to the nearest houses!

She's driving to take knowing she's not doing any giving.

IVFmumoftwo · 31/10/2024 16:14

VivianLea · 31/10/2024 15:57

But this is their community too... Just because they live a bit further away doesn't mean they're not legitimate members of our village community. If I can take my little kids to the streets around ours, I don't see why other people can't take their little kids to the streets around their school.

I take mine a ten minute walk away as it is they seem to celebrate it more. I don't see the issue.

SilverChampagne · 31/10/2024 16:14

Yeah, there’s nothing grabby about any of it.

A 3pm kickoff would be bloody annoying, but grabby doesn’t come into it at any point.

ObtuseMoose · 31/10/2024 16:14

Some people can suck the fun out of anything, it must be tiring.

LBFseBrom · 31/10/2024 16:14

Never have trick or treating around my way. Which does not bother me one bit :-). I find the entire Halloween business weird.

However, 3pm seems OK for young children, I hope they have an adult with them.

wiesowarum · 31/10/2024 16:14

Only some sweets. She isn't robbing your house. I always went to the wealthy houses because we got money!

wiesowarum · 31/10/2024 16:15

Positivenancy · 31/10/2024 15:55

@wiesowarum dear god…it’s Halloween for gods sake! It’s not like we do it every night. It’s one night a year! I’d be delighted if people called to mine in reality…but they don’t, I don’t control that. Nothing I can do about it really.

Well, you could not go to other's doors to take when you've not given anything. It's bad taste.

wiesowarum · 31/10/2024 16:16

Not necessarily. If you don't live in or contrubute to a location, e.g. an estate, then travelling there exclusively to take is very grabby.

Oh, stop it. It’s a few cheap sweets.

wiesowarum · 31/10/2024 16:18

Positivenancy · 31/10/2024 16:01

Jesus…it was tongue in cheek. I would love if I got people calling, but I don’t because I’m too far out! My dc are still entitled to call to houses for the Halloween experience so I drive 6mins to the village (the same village where they attends sports etc!) and we go to the estate there…because that’s where the houses are. It’s logic!

Actually, nobody is entitled to expect someone else to provide them with a halloween experience. 🫣
