I guess the rioters have booked time off work?

Just strikes me that they’re all available during the working week and yet they somehow think they’re the backbone of society.

If I had to chose who I wanted to eradicate from society it would be exactly these cretins. Fit and healthy enough to riot, fight and terrorise police officers who all have families to get back to but not fit enough to be occupied with any economic activity during the day.

Gatherings have been in the evenings. Many people work and finish at 4 or 5.

5foot5 · 07/08/2024 10:49

Who would employ these thick as mince, racist scum?

Would your employer be happy with you taking part? It would be an instant dismissal for me.

Mostly, yes, but it’s clear that many have been travelling to riot. That makes it a bit harder to put in a day’s work either side…
It will, if course, be even harder from prison.

noblegiraffe · 07/08/2024 10:53

Some of them don't have jobs anymore because they were spotted on Facebook looting Greggs.

Beezknees · 07/08/2024 10:53

Don't get me wrong, I can't stand the rioting but not everyone works 9-5 Monday to Friday.

Maverickess · 07/08/2024 10:54

Totally see your point, however a lot of work round here is shifts, me included, there's been 3 riots I could have driven to within 90 mins or so and I could have attended any of them after work on the day they happened - were I a mindless hooligan that is.

Well no, myself included. Maybe I’m just jealous they have so much free time or a lack of responsibilities that allows them to spend their time harassing innocent people.

Not everyone works weekdays 9-5 and there’s some definite school kids amongst the rioters.

Edingril · 07/08/2024 10:56

If the government announced to cancelling benefits how many rioters would go back to the live under their rock?

x2boys · 07/08/2024 10:57

Absolutely not condoning the riots and i live in area affected by them
But not everyone works Monday to Fridsy 9-5 plenty of people work shifts / unsocial hours.

Theres the odd woman with buggies on social media videos. I guess it makes carrying what’s been looted easier.

5128gap · 07/08/2024 11:00

Its the industrial fortnight. Some tradition of riots taking place in these two weeks Dudley race riots for example.

Morph22010 · 07/08/2024 11:02

The guy that got hit by a brick and the video went viral is a painter and decorator self employed, that woman who pushed the wheely bin at police has a removal business Leanne’s removals. Most the the people I know locally who have these type of views tend to have jobs or work for themselves rather than be on benefits. Not defending them they are still idiots but I think the fact they work does give them some sort of moral superiority in their eyes. The just stop oil brigade on other hand I bet there’s not many of them with full time jobs

Yes that's true. I used to work in manufacturing and there was a mandatory shut down at this time of year and Christmas.

Some of the women attending may be SAHMs as well.

Beezknees · 07/08/2024 11:03

Or some may be self employed.

AntoinetteCurtain · 07/08/2024 11:03

Bravo for the use of the word cretin!!!

If they did a survey of every single rioter how many have jobs?

Saschka · 07/08/2024 11:09

I’d imagine most are self-employed. I’ve had loads of tradesmen over the years just annouce on the morning that they aren’t turning up (my kitchen fitter managed to stretch a two week project out over four months by never turning up), so obviously fairly easy to cancel work.

A lot of the Just Stop Oil protesters seemed to work for universities. So I assume had a lot of flexibility over summer break (my MIL was a university lecturer so I am aware they are not on “holiday”, but lots do work from home).

I‘m just really mad about all the resources that are being wasted, the threats to police - the waste of their valuable time and the threats to anyone of any sort of minority, including people I know, threats vulnerable people and I am using MN as a method of venting.

I am only here to insult anyone partaking in riots.

Me too and rightly so. We've already had 2 emails reminding us that we are an inclusive, non racist workplace and divisive behaviour won't be tolerated

Like a pp said they’ll struggle to work from prison.
