I guess the rioters have booked time off work?

Just strikes me that they’re all available during the working week and yet they somehow think they’re the backbone of society.

If I had to chose who I wanted to eradicate from society it would be exactly these cretins. Fit and healthy enough to riot, fight and terrorise police officers who all have families to get back to but not fit enough to be occupied with any economic activity during the day.

Cocaine is expensive and clearly quite a lot of the older football hooligan firm types are taking a lot of it, judging by the pictures.

So they probably are working - legitimately or not quite legitimately - as you can't afford that on benefits.

Being able to afford that much coke also suggests they aren't hard done by, just about managing, cost of living suffering types either

Cocaine grandads, heading for a heart attack, drugged up, drunk, overweight and raging about "forrins".

housethatbuiltme · 07/08/2024 12:46

Time of work? But all the immigrant stole their jobs.

If that awful 'terrorist' Dr. Meera Baheri hadn't come over here with her masters degree then obviously Gavin with his 2x D grade GCSE (in woodwork and PE) and only misdemonor criminal record would be your Oncologist instead don't you know?

In some woke politically correct linguistically-sensitive contexts, "cretin", along with "moron", "imbecile", and "idiot", is considered to be a ableist slur. All of these words were originally used as technical terms to classify various levels of mental disability, and then adopted as terms of abuse. Cretinism was a name for disabilities caused by hyperthyroidism. ("Idiot" in its original Greek meaning just described a person who didn't take part in political life and was not a slur at all.)

I don't worry about it too much and I'm happy to call Donald Trump a moron, but you might get pushback in some situations. 🙏

Edited

I too was surprised at the ''Bravo for the use of the word 'Cretin'- it's hardly an intelligent slur, and to say ''Bravo'' for that is rather a pompous overreaction.

Edingril · 07/08/2024 12:50

Wonder if they did IQ/other intelligence tests how many would get high scores?

DowngradedToATropicalStorm · 07/08/2024 12:50

IItisymoi · 07/08/2024 11:47

Well there are already over 400 with a criminal record that will haunt them for the rest of their lives IF they try to get work or go on holiday outside the UK, and there will be plenty more as a LOT of effort will be put into finding out who was present at any of these 'incidents'.

You think they don't already have a yellow sheet as long as your arm?

ErrolTheDragon · 07/08/2024 12:51

AntoinetteCurtain · 07/08/2024 11:03

Bravo for the use of the word cretin!!!

I assume that was meant sarcastically?

I'm guessing @SunQueen24 doesn't realise it's an old derogatory term for people suffering from hypothyroidism- many don't as fortunately it's mostly detected and treated from birth nowadays so its not a common condition. Once someone knows this they will realise it's completely inappropriate to use, particularly in relation to these rioters.

This. Don't know the obsession with " working day" being 9-5. I certainly don't work those hours and neither do most people I know

You’re right that not everyone works 9-5 buts it’s safe to say that the majority of these men do not work or haven’t been working the past few days.

Not only do these riots last for hours but the majority of men taking part are drinking alcohol and turn up drunk. They are out until early hours of the morning and then either go home beaten themselves or with bashed up knuckles, torn clothing etc or they are arrested and taken to a police cell. They are also on camera spouting abuse and very openly attacking police and ambulance staff.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with people who don’t work or who are on benefits but everyone I’ve seen that has been interviewed has said that they are rioting because the immigrants are taking their jobs - which just isn’t true.

If they want to protest about something legit then I would support them (as long as it’s a protest and not a riot).
But firstly they blamed an immigrant for killing 3 girls, then when they found out he was welsh and Christian are now blaming lack of jobs.

These men have absolutely no good point or message of change.
They cannot tell you why they are rioting.
They are racists, which proudly show off swastika tattoos and attack innocent people.

These men do not work because they can’t get a job.
They don’t work because they think they are superior and the world owes them a favour.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 07/08/2024 12:54

@Expatfamily and now they're being used by the likes of Farage and "Tommy Robinson".

Thepeopleversuswork · 07/08/2024 12:54

@Expatfamily

The problem with this narrative about this desperate underclass of people which is trodden underfoot by the government and metropolitan elites bla bla bla is that it’s radically at odds with the mounting evidence that many of these people have enough money for cocaine and beer every weekend.

I said this up thread: you can’t both be desperate downtrodden underclass and respectable hardworking working class folk. You can’t both get the hump about being accused of being on benefits and also try to play the sympathy card for living on poverty.

So many people trying to retrofit a narrative to justify their behaviour, involving some bullshit combination of stereotypes about “the working class”.

I think that a fair few of them will end up out of work as the court cases pile up and social media puts names to faces. Did anyone see the headlines about that woman who worked as a childminder but has now been arrested for posting the most hateful tweet about wanting to set fire to hotels housing asylum seekers. She will be struggling to find work when she loses her registration

It's scary, considering that she most likely was also childminding non-white kids

HarrytheHobbit · 07/08/2024 12:59

It seems that many of the rioters are school age scrotes

AhBiscuits · 07/08/2024 12:59

I'll admit that I'm enjoying watching these thugs being fast tracked to prison. Brilliant.

TizerorFizz · 07/08/2024 12:59

@Expatfamily Not taught in schools is what everyone says when people don’t understand something. As for only Shakespeare! What planet are you on? Everyone has a change to go to school. You cannot assert anything of what you say should cause riots. Each one would be dealt with - certainly abuse if it’s reported. Most of this is parental failure. Would you like dc removed from families? Riots ensue with this action too and it has been through the courts.

Most people come here for a better life and most achieve it. Some people born here and others don’t but the state cannot put everything right. Attending school is important. No school is that bad here. Seeing a way out matters. I didn’t have most of what you list growing up - except my teeth. People can rise above their deprived status. It is importing not to keep blaming others. That way riots ensue.

This.

Nope I'm from that background, spent 3 years homeless in my teens due to care system failures and lack of disability help. I'm not like this and neither are any of the fellow street kids I lived with during that time of my life either.

Stop excusing it like that, non of us are racist and out there rioting. We also don't see people struggling along side us as the enemy. The shit hole unfit for purpose hostels we where dumped into by the uncaring system, we where all different races/background and going through the same experiance. It bonded us together, many of our 'family' we build from our experience are immigrants.

The violent twats who chose to truant school to play 'gangster' and get off on stealing and smash things up are NOT the same as us who where failed by the system and stuck together HELPING each other.

Some of those complaining about being unemployed include this guy:

Quite a few of them have criminal records for violence/ sexual abuse:

Before maternity leave I used to work as a youth worker. Get to know these people. The majority of them have been abused, should have been diagnosed with a learning disability, missed childhoods, they never stood a chance. There’s a difference between working class and underclass.

Mock them for not having any GCSEs, or teeth, or having to live on £70 a week benefits, for not understanding how voting works, that it’s not their foreign colleagues fault for competing for the same zero hour shift (imagine turning up to work at 5am and being told that there’s no work today) but actually the shareholders/government policy for allowing zero hour ‘contracts’, laugh at the guy who blames foreigners for stealing his job when he’s got a criminal record (obviously got learning disability too but who cares), how do you expect them to be able to form a debate or understand how our government works as it’s not taught in schools? All they know is that they regularly don’t have hot water and have never stayed in a hotel but ‘those’ men are put up in ‘fancy’ holiday expresses.

Once upon a time we used to throw the British underclass into work houses and it was seen as charity work. The underclass was seen subhuman, children separated from mothers to be trained to go into service, men and women worked to the bone 6 days a week for literal gruel.

I wonder how many people on here have turned up to work and there’s no shift/sent home penniless? Been on the housing list for years? Not ever stayed in a hotel? Not got a working shower? Zero opportunity for social mobility? Live on £30 a week? Not supported at school? Never told to brush their teeth as a child? The only book they were forced to read at school was Shakespeare and wondering why they don’t value the only resource they’ve got?

You’re expecting a members of our society living on crumbs to share those crumbs nicely. And when they say ‘why are we having to share our crumbs?’ Or ‘I’m not racist as I’ve got friends that are foreign but my housing block is half foreign and my sister has been waiting for eight years.. and number 7 only arrived here five years ago’.

But nobody has ever listened to them. The only way they know to get attention is bad attention. Keir telling them that they’re all going to get thrown in prison for ten years if they don’t go back to their grotty little lives whilst the rest of society continues to laugh at them. It’s not the way to de-escalate the situation. It’s like telling the naughty kid that he’s going to be thrown out of school unless he start behaving, but he doesn’t care as he can’t read the worksheets, feels everyone hates him and told it’s a waste of time. At least he’s got some attention being told he’s about be thrown out. They need someone to put their hand on their shoulder and feel listened to. At the moment they’ve only got Tommy and Nigel.

This is one of the best posts I've ever read on here.

I myself have never struggled, I have worked all my life, have a good wage, a lovely home, an amazing family, and all the trappings of success.

But I have met the type of people that Expatfamily describes, when I worked with the Police for a while. It is utterly heartbreaking and shocking to see the horrendous standard of living that some people have in the UK. I couldn't have imagined how horrific things were, had I not seen it with my own eyes, and when I tried to tell friends, you could tell that they just didn't really believe me. I mean, why would you, when you live in a nice little financially comfortable bubble?

We are talking no food in the cupboards, no carpets, no beds, no proper clothing, no escape from the depths of poverty. People are angry, and quite literally many have nothing to lose. If they go to prison they will get food and board that might be better than at home. And no bills to try to find money for.

ItsAlrightDarling · 07/08/2024 13:07

l also know people like this, on a professional basis. I do not believe, in the main, that these are the people rioting, however.

MouseofCommons · 07/08/2024 13:08

I believe that the woman who had a removals company already had a criminal record. She wouldn't have to declare it to customers.

You're broad brushing a whole set of people, with absolutely nothing to back up your claims. This is EXACTLY what Starmer did, when he labelled everyone far right. Do you live in an Ivory tower?

Of course people who are trying to murder asylum seekers, attack mosques, assault people of colour and spray racist graffiti are far right.

Do you speak for every single person in poverty? I have seen the effects of poverty on physical health in hospital - it is not pretty.
