I guess the rioters have booked time off work?

Just strikes me that they’re all available during the working week and yet they somehow think they’re the backbone of society.

If I had to chose who I wanted to eradicate from society it would be exactly these cretins. Fit and healthy enough to riot, fight and terrorise police officers who all have families to get back to but not fit enough to be occupied with any economic activity during the day.

Don't get me wrong, I can't stand the rioting but not everyone works 9-5 Monday to Friday.

I agree.

I am in no way defending the rioters or anything that they are doing, but happening to be free at (for example) 3pm on a Tuesday doesn't mean that someone must be unemployed. I'd much rather focus on condemning their actions rather than their perceived socio-economic status.

Lots of people are self-employed, or work part-time. Lots of people work unusual shift patterns. Lots of people work at weekends and have time off during the week. This is particularly true of those in working class jobs.

(Of course, those who are caught/convicted will likely lose their jobs, unless self employed. Those are the consequences of committing violent crime though.)

TryThinkingForYourself · 07/08/2024 11:12

So do we despise the unemployed now? I can’t keep up …

SunQueen24 · 07/08/2024 10:56

Well no, myself included. Maybe I’m just jealous they have so much free time or a lack of responsibilities that allows them to spend their time harassing innocent people.

You're jealous of people who have time to riot?🤔

If the government announced to cancelling benefits how many rioters would go back to the live under their rock?

they are reviewing them for those who have been identified and charged and are known to be on benefits

SunQueen24 · 07/08/2024 11:15

Only on MN can people contort themselves so much that they can perceive a rant about violent thugs as personal insults… 🫢

I don't think it's right to tar people on benefits with this. They get enough hate already.

Exactly I used to be a nurse I was often free during the week
My Dh works shifts and is off today aa he's working Sunday.

I think there are going to be quite a few who just went along to join in a ruck and are now very shocked to realise they even got arrested let alone remanded in custody and denied bail. More than a few jobs lost me thinks. I have no sympathy at all but hopefully it will deter a few others from getting involved. This isn't a punch up after a football match where there are no consequences the next day.

I‘m just really mad about all the resources that are being wasted, the threats to police - the waste of their valuable time and the threats to anyone of any sort of minority, including people I know, threats vulnerable people and I am using MN as a method of venting.

I am only here to insult anyone partaking in riots.

Edited

How about you focus on insulting them for their actions (which you have hard evidence about), rather than their perceived employment status (which you don't know anything about)?

Would it make their behaviour any better if the rioters all held down 'naice' MC office jobs in the city? No, because it's utterly irrelevant

The posts about the rioters' appearance also wind me up - having few teeth, being overweight or dressing scruffily are not crimes (and both teeth and weight are heavily correlated with poverty). Engaging in racist violence is the problem here - focus on that.

Caffeineislife · 07/08/2024 11:18

As someone who many years ago worked with a charity who worked with young offenders (some who were in football firms, others in the old edl groups) I gathered that a lot of the older members worked shifts and had patterns like 4 days on, 4 days off. An awful lot of shift work in our area (affected by the riots) falls so there is lots of midweek time off. Round us the riots are happening in the evening as well. There are supposedly riots in 3 close towns to us today. If what's been spread on SM is to be believed then it's all happening after 5 tonight.

Whilst we are rural enough to be away from the rioting towns. Something was shared on local FB about a block of private flats and a large ex hotel HMO (both same owner) that according to rumor has been acquired for refugee housing. Just hoping trouble won't come to our town. We are only 30 mins drive away and very easy train/ bus ride from 2 of the areas with very violent rioting the other day.

noblegiraffe · 07/08/2024 10:53

Some of them don't have jobs anymore because they were spotted on Facebook looting Greggs.

I would hazard a guess that very few of these cretins have ever had a steady job. The whole concept of taking responsibility for their lives must be pretty alien to them. Hence the “waah waah the immigrants are taking our jobs” schtick.

NotDavidTennant · 07/08/2024 11:19

How on earth has criticism of the riots turned into benefit bashing?

Unbelievable.

aodirjjd · 07/08/2024 11:20

I know numbers vary across location but some towns have huge amounts of counter protesterors, are they all unemployed as well or is it just the ones whose views we disagree with?

Well said!

Grandmasswagbag · 07/08/2024 11:21

Good point. We all know the vast majority of these people don't work. Scroungers paid for by hard working immigrants!

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 07/08/2024 11:23

Benefits bashing is a shitty thing to do, regardless of who your target is.

Grandmasswagbag · 07/08/2024 11:23

A lot of the looters appear to be kids, so on summer holidays I guess.

Calling people "scroungers" doesn't make you any better than them by the way.

Who would employ these thick as mince, racist scum?

Plenty of employers are thick as mince racist scum.

sandgrown · 07/08/2024 11:24

In my line of work it would be instant dismissal for gross misconduct. Totally agree benefits should be stopped for those who should be actively seeking work . I am not a benefit basher but many of the people rioting have the brain capacity of an amoeba and would struggle to get a job .

See, I’m sure most of them do. Probably reasonably well paid too, to afford the alcohol, coke and travel expenses.

And that is making them feel superior to “illegal immigrants on benefits funded by my taxes” (which I am aware is nonsense)

Looking at what local convicted football hooligans have done for a living (from the local paper) they have been factory machinists, coach makers, estate agents, builders. Looking in street view at the roads they live on, they are all reasonable-looking owner-occupied 3 bed semis.

I agree. I think we'll see that lots of these people in reasonably well paid jobs when the identities of these thugs start being made public.

They are racist thugs - that is the problem here. A racist thug is a racist thug regardless of whether they are unemployed or earning £100k.

Those who are saying that they can't possibly have ever had a job are trying to other them, because it's more comfortable to tell ourselves that we don't have large numbers of racist thugs participating in normal UK society.

Well we do, and most of them will be people you interact with in everyday life. The joiner who fitted your door, the estate agent who sold your house, the sales person who sold you your car, the retail worker in a shop you visit....

BlueGrackle · 07/08/2024 11:29

If you read some of the comments on my local newspaper site from people that share similar views, they seem to have a lot of time on their hands too, judging the sheer volume of comments and times of posting.

DoIWantTo · 07/08/2024 11:30

YABU for wanting to eradicate any person. The eradication of any group of people is despicable and abhorrent, if you want to fall as low as the nazis on you go. And yes, the rioters are absolutely no better but that doesn’t mean you should be out there promoting violence too.
