When.. they are the vast majority in England.

I’ve heard of one in NI: and none in Scotland or Wales.

Yep

mymumwouldntapprove · 06/08/2024 19:33

It’s only small parts of England, even.
nothing at all in my large county, or any of the neighbouring counties.

ToothPickk · 06/08/2024 19:36

They are in the UK.

ok...by that logic they could also be referred to as European riots, or world riots then?

Correct. All would be correct.

"England and Northern Ireland" is a bit clumsy, I'm fine with UK.

Blackbirdinfinity · 06/08/2024 19:45

The riots are concentrated in areas with high levels of ethnic minorities. Scotland is 95% white. It’s not hard to work out why there are fewer rioters in Scotland. It doesn’t make scotland ‘nicer’ than the rest of the UK.

Love51 · 06/08/2024 19:45

UK is the smallest accurate reference to refer to them collectively. England and Belfast is a bit clunky.
It is horrible living in a town with riots. There's nothing for you to feel left out about.

Gruello · 06/08/2024 19:45

I thought this was going to be a thread saying they should actually be called acts of terrorism.

JaggyJumper · 06/08/2024 19:46

Agreed if it was only happening in wales and Scotland it wouldn’t be called uk riots

YellowphantGrey · 06/08/2024 19:48

Because calling them UK riots is the most pressing and concerning thing about them?

poopybumhole · 06/08/2024 19:48

Yup.

This!!
🙄

caringcarer · 06/08/2024 19:50

They are mainly in England and NI. I hope they don't spread to Wales or Scotland

OlympicsFanGirl · 06/08/2024 19:51

Trying to make this an anti English thing makes you no different to the the racists.

We are just as capable of stupidity in Scotland as other parts of the UK.

Swines had to jump in last week as rumours spread that a stabbing in Stirling had been caused by a Muslim.

Swinney.

Swinney.

I liked your first version.

Op, just because we’ve not seen riots in Scotland at this point, does not mean we won’t.

Missmarymack2 · 06/08/2024 19:57

im from Ireland and there have been some riots in ROI as well, and some of the thugs from ROI travelled to NI participate in the Belfast riots. I have fears that these riots are going to spread unfortunately.

GreyBlackLove · 06/08/2024 19:57

Agreed that UK is accurate without being clunky. I'm worried its only a matter of time before we see this in Scotland, especially with more "protests" planned.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 06/08/2024 19:59

Apparently there is ine planned for Rhyl so they are moving to other parts of the UK.

YogaForDummies · 06/08/2024 20:00

Scottish person complains about racism with racism, classic.

Bouliegirl · 06/08/2024 20:01

I hope to fuck they don’t start their shite up here in Scotland.

Scotland as a whole may be mostly white: but some cities (Glasgow, Dundee) have a lot of ethnic minorities

im sitting watching my son taking part in a sport just now where about half the kids playing are from Asian countries (Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh) and horrified of the thought that these kids and their families would be victimized

It’s not racism. The riots are simply not happening in Scotland and Wales right now

Well there’s been several days of trouble in NI in various towns, and obviously multiple sites across England so what should they be called other than UK riots?

Scotland and Wales might want to say they aren’t involved, but equally most of NI and England aren’t involved either but “UK” is still appropriate.
