To be fed up with the riots being called “UK riots”?

When.. they are the vast majority in England.

I’ve heard of one in NI: and none in Scotland or Wales.

Scotland and Wales have continually agreed to be part of the UK.

So you get the good parts of the UK.

And you get the bad parts of the UK.

People know that the riots are specifically in England anyway. No one has mentioned wales/ scotland

Thevelvelletes · 06/08/2024 20:41

If it were to kick off in Scotland Dundee would be my guess
Christ some inhabitants couldn't do Halloween like normal people.

There are densely populated cities within Scotland, with a fairly diverse ethnic make up.

England, 81% white, Scotland, 93% white. Not really comparable.

Blackbirdinfinity · 06/08/2024 19:45

The riots are concentrated in areas with high levels of ethnic minorities. Scotland is 95% white. It’s not hard to work out why there are fewer rioters in Scotland. It doesn’t make scotland ‘nicer’ than the rest of the UK.

I'm in the NE. We are the whitest area of England (93 % white) and there have been riots in Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Darlington.

um...when was this 'continually?'
Scotland have had ONE independence vote. Wales have never had one so not sure what on earth you're on about.

OlympicsFanGirl · 06/08/2024 20:51

@Bouliegirl

If this isn't an anti English thread then what is your actual point?

WickieRoy · 06/08/2024 20:52

Timeforicecream · 06/08/2024 20:37

Both sides riot often which you'll
know if you’re in NI, not just in July. The riots were in Derry over March/April/May. On Saturday many communities were rioting together which was extremely unusual to see, in fact I think it was a first…. And obviously hopefully the last.

Christ. I mean, both sides riot in July. I wasn't making a point about one community over the other.

Btw, it was Dublin racists up with the tricolour on Saturday, not nationalist racists afaik. Apparently the nationalist racists are angry that the Dublin racists chose the union jack racists to buddy up with. It might be the most NI thing that's ever happened.

Why don't Wales leave the UK?

Why don't Wales ever even have a vote to have an independence referendum?

They could leave the UK if they want.

They never do anything about independence.

So they agree to be part of the UK

PollyPeachum · 06/08/2024 20:53

Is it making a distinction between stone throwing and bruises and the state that Bangladesh is in with about 30 deaths?

Cosycover · 06/08/2024 20:54

It is quite annoying actually. There won't be any riots in Scotland.

tinytemper66 · 06/08/2024 20:55

There have been reports of racist comments/verbal abuse in Cardiff but no rioting. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

How do you know. The far right is everywhere.

And they egg each other on.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 06/08/2024 20:57

If you search for the 2011 riots they are referred to as '2011 English riots' so fair enough to query why in this case it's different.

Because those were just in England, and not also in NI.

I have lived in 2 places in Scotland and the diversity largely extends to ginger or not ginger. Scotland is in no way as diverse as England, nor does it home anywhere near the number of immigrants.

As recent court proceedings have reiterated, the notion that the UK is a 'voluntary' union that constituent members can leave of their own accord is complete fiction.

Wales and Scotland both have the right to hold independence referendums.

Scotland had an independence referendum.

They voted to stay in the UK.

What?

Scotland already had one.

That's now 2 anti English threads on the go tonight.

We should be standing together to condemn and reject racism if all kinds.

Trying to pretend there is Scottish exceptionalism is misguided, wtong and a slippery slope at best.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/08/2024 21:07

You’re not wrong. They’re pretty much English riots.

Or rather a small number of skirmishes in a few towns by a tiny minority of ignoramus louts.

What do you mean

"No they do not".

You do know that Scotland already had an independence referendum, yes?

AinmEile · 06/08/2024 21:07

We have also had them in Ireland. I think far right inspired riots would do?

They're not pretty much English riots.

There have also been a lot of riots in Northern Ireland.

So calling the riots 'UK riots' is accurate
