When.. they are the vast majority in England.

I’ve heard of one in NI: and none in Scotland or Wales.

Hopefully it pisses of rain soon and keeps these clowns indoors.

Yanbu, pissing me off too. If it was in a small part of Scotland can guarantee they wouldn't be running with UK or British riots.

Grow up. People are living in fear and terror, and all the destruction of homes, businesses and communities and all you fucking care about is your Scottishness! Catch yourself on!

Timeforicecream · 06/08/2024 22:48

Can I just say…. It’s unionists/nationalists & atheist rioting here (NI) together!! It’s not all one side. Please stop staying it’s all unionists, rioting it’s really isn’t… we are not all idiots just because we happened to be born into our religions.

Vettrianofan · 06/08/2024 21:56

You're right OP. It's English riots. Nothing to do with Scotland.

So are the riots in NI "English riots"?? FFS!

LadyChilli · 06/08/2024 22:49

garlictwist · 06/08/2024 21:57

I'm brown and in Glasgow and have suffered two separate instances this week of racial abuse. So whilst the riots might not be in Glasgow, the mood is.

This is not OK. I am sure whoever did this was a minority but it's still horrible and not OK. I can't and don't want to imagine a Glasgow without all the races and cultures that make the city what it is. If this is your home you are one of us.

And??

Dickheads aren't they, I think this thread should be deleted. Kids have died and people care about whether the riots are UK or not 🤯 this thread will age well when the riots spread further to where they are, although I sincerely hope that doesn't happen. @MNHQ maybe you agree this thread should be removed?

Onelifeonly · 06/08/2024 22:53

Because the place we all live IS generally referred to as the UK and the government having to deal with them is the UK government.

If they were all in one area of England they might be referred to by that area, but that isn't the case. And there's no saying anyway that there might not be unrest in Wales or Scotland (there was something in Scotland though?)

There's nothing special about the Welsh or Scottish that means that some of them might not riot if they felt like it.

It is rascist to suggest we should call them the English (and NI) riots as the implication is only English (and NI) people would do such a thing.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 06/08/2024 22:55

I am fed up with hearing them called protests. That is a much bigger issue I think.

LemonTreeGrove · 06/08/2024 23:03

1offnamechange · 06/08/2024 20:22

Nobody has suggested that areas without riots are "nicer"
(or, from an even stupider poster, that people in not rioting areas feel "left out" 🙄)

Just that the first step to understanding something is to name it correctly. As you say yourself, there are probably valid reasons why they are happening in some areas and not others which it would very likely be useful for a social, political or even practical (i.e. police preventive planning) perspective to understand.

As a pp said when there are riots in northern ireland they are never referred to as UK riots. Riots in Paris aren't referred to as European riots. If you search for the 2011 riots they are referred to as '2011 English riots' so fair enough to query why in this case it's different.

Because it's in two countries of the UK.

Does it really matter anyway.

They call it the UK riots to refer to geographical location.

Not to piss of Welsh and Scottish people

would you like a ladder to help with that stretch?

by that logic how come it isn't "rascist" (sic) when riots that take place in, say, Northern Ireland are referred to as Northern Ireland riots (or Belfast riots)?

*and neither Ireland or English are a "race," ffs! therefore it is impossible to be racist against them. or, indeed, "rascist"

While Irish and English are not races, the definition of racism includes nationality. As an Irish person who lived in England during the 80's I can assure you racism against Irish people is very possible.

ToothPickk · 06/08/2024 22:40

Show me where on earth I justified it???? Its a fucking joke what's going on, however the deaths of those 3 girls sparked all of the idiots who are now rioting, that's a fact.

Sorry!!! Not you justifying it. The rioters trying to use it as justification.

The young children dying is absolutely horrendous. There is no doubt of that.

But the riots are not caused by the death of these children. And the death of these innocents should not be used in any way as justification for these riots

Scotland was given permission to have a referendum, yes.

Youre ignoring the small point of the following:

Once Scotland were given permission to ha a referendum, Scotland voted to stay in the UK.

If Scotland wanted to leave the UK, they would.

They don't.

And I was able to say that you , without hurling insults at you.

Unlike you, who called me stupid.

Try to say your point, without throwing insults at people.

Why did the rioting start? I mean I know why the rioting started, but obviously you think something different so interested to hear it.

The rioting has started due to misinformation where incorrect social media posts blamed a Muslim immigrant who was “just off the boat” for the murder of the these little girls. (However, this turned out to be untrue. It was a boy born in Wales from a Christian family)

Regardless of who committed this heinous act: these riots cannot change what happened, nor prevent such an event happening again. There are obviously far right groups (or foreign bots) stirring shit up, and those type of people who just love a good rammie have latched onto the deaths of these girls to try and give their bad behaviour an element of legitimacy

So you've just told me that the rioting didn't start because of those 3 girls, and when asked why it started you literally tell me it's because of the 3 girls. I'm not even remotely debating it with you that the riots shouldn't be happening, it's an absolute joke with brain dead dickheads fighting and looting for the sake of it. But it happened because of those 3 girls, like you have just confirmed.

No; the perpetrators are using misinformation around the deaths of those young girls as a justification for the riots.

@Abigail47 Your posts are just so patronising and uninformed. It’s depressing.

EKnaring · 06/08/2024 23:47

Seeing as it’s a developing situation I don’t see this as too problematic - and I’ve seen plans for a ‘protest’ set up for Glasgow so not just England

suburberphobe · 06/08/2024 23:47

No.
They are taking place in England, and Belfast. Therefore UK.
