To be fed up with the riots being called “UK riots”?

When.. they are the vast majority in England.

I’ve heard of one in NI: and none in Scotland or Wales.

Would the riots have started as simply a response to this attack?

No

Did the false narrative that this was carried out by a Muslim refugee, which was spread by online right wing media outlets and twitter accounts like Tommy Robinson, whip up a frenzy of racism which led to riots on the street?

Yes.

It’s actually incredibly easy to understand. Really really strange to claim “misinformation is IRRELEVANT”. It couldn’t be more relevant to what is happening.

Reflect . Lol.

Yes I'm going to sit here with a cup of tea and 'reflect ' on my earlier posts.

That's a good one.

Calling a poster stupid is not allowed on here, as you well know.

I didn’t know that actually, as I’ve never seen anyone posting something so far wrong that they’ve openly been called stupid. Turns out both of us have learned something from this thread!

Riots starting, and justification for riots is 2 totally different things. At no point have I mentioned justification. There is no justification. The riots started because of the deaths of 3 children, you know they did.

It's not as simple as that. There are a load of racist thugs who are looking for an excuse to riot and to terrorise people of different ethnicities. If those horrific murders had not occurred, there would have been another trigger. The rioters don't give a crap about the little girls and their families. They are simply looking for an excuse to vent their spleen.

orangeN · 07/08/2024 00:46

I agree these are thugs, they don't care about victims, this country or its people. They just use it as an excuse to loot, spread hatred and violence. There is nothing honourable here! Anyone says this could be excused i disagree, it's not how a civilised country solve any problems, a bunch of barbarians !

I guarantee you that if there were riots only in Scotland, they would be called "Scottish riots", not UK riots.

100% guaranteed. Just more forced teaming bs. Im with Scotland on this, and I'm English.

I can only imagine you aren't Scots.

I absolutely am! Are you talking about the one that won the league (?) and partied in George Sq? Climbed statues/sat on top of bus stops/left a trail of destruction behind?

Yes but the riots aren't only in England. They are also happening in NI. Or is this just the usual English attitude of being completely oblivious to NI.

HollyKnight · 07/08/2024 09:20

Many of the protesters/rioters in Belfast have actually come up from Ireland to cause shit. They're not protesting on behalf of the UK, they're just continuing their own racist shit from last year.

And they don't seem to get the irony of buddying up with loyalist murderers (there are a number of convicted murderers involved) who have in the past behaved similarly towards nationalists.

It is a relatively small number up from Ireland. They are the same thugs who have been involved in the protests in Dublin.

Iwantitidontwantit · 07/08/2024 09:35

I'm English and completely agree!

Right? It is a bit of a facepalm moment seeing Irish extremists call out nationalists for not joining the loyalists. 🤦🏻‍♀️

There are densely populated cities within Scotland, with a fairly diverse ethnic make up.

There have been no riots (so far) in my very large county. I could, therefore, take issue with you referring to the unrest as English riots. But I won't because my county is undeniably part of England just as Scotland is, currently, part of the UK. How far should we take it? Do the news editors have to list every town affected each time they refer to rioting generally, in case they offend somebody? In any case, it sounds like, very soon, your argument will no longer be valid.

I don't think they're the most educated of individuals.

There had been reports of a riot being planned in Cardiff last Saturday.
https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/demonstrators-gather-cardiff-after-reports-29671443

Yep. And nothing happened because about 5 stupid people turned up (3 were older women who really should know better) and were outnumbered by peaceful protestors..

So, no riots in Wales.

Bouliegirl · 07/08/2024 10:56

Anyway.. moot point probably now. Rumours are that there are “protests” planned in Glasgow.

I thought your thread might not age well.

PandoraSox · 07/08/2024 12:34

From Police Scotland Greater Glasgow: “We are aware of speculation circulating about a protest in George Square, Glasgow, today. There is no intelligence to suggest any protest is planned. Please be wary of what you read on social media, and avoid speculation and sharing information which may be inaccurate.”

Thread should be deleted. Pathetic thing to be quibbling about. Should be embarrassed OP, and anyone agreeing.

Yes it would but if it was Scotland and NI it would be UK riots. Ffs I've reported this thread.

why have you reported it? Genuine question? Because you don’t agree, doesn’t mean that a thread should be deleted.

Probably the same reason I've reported it. Because its pathetic given the real life things going on out there.

Because you believe that it’s pathetic doesn’t mean that it should be deleted. Plenty of threads on mn are pathetic.
