Perhaps women aren't cut out to be on the front line?

Footage of the female officers at the attempted assassination of Trump, and of the scenes at Manchester Airport makes me think that perhaps we're not best suited in those situations.

Would those four violent men have dared attack male officers in the same way?

I think you may have a point, after all we never see male on male violence.....

leeverarch · 25/07/2024 14:24
Hmm

Nutters and terrorists don't care who they attack or who stands in their way.

Obviously but that's more of an equal playing field.

If someone was attacking me, I would want a man defending me. Personally.

Exactly this.

Honestly, OP, put your thinking cap on.

I don't believe work like that plays into women's strong point at all

Like men have never attacked men. Didn't stop individuals taking a pop at Reagan or JFK did it🙄

Interesting first post.

Then don’t apply for those kinds of jobs? They don’t play to the strengths of lots of men either.

With Donald Trump, I’m not sure being male or female has any protective effect on gunshot wounds.

Changingname1988 · 25/07/2024 14:30

Were there female secret service agents working when JFK was killed in 1963? I doubt it. On your logic, men aren’t up to the job either.

If I was an innocent bystander I don't want the male police/army/security handling it all tbh. We need to de-escalate the situation and people who would have good forward thinking. It was men who caused every disaster to be worse than it need be by not responding adequately. The inquiry into the Manchester bombing, showed that we need people who can do their jobs properly and aren't arrogant enough to think that they know what is happening. There's a question over is it correct that armed response went in.

Whereas Col Gadaffi had a female-only security team, and nobody ever shot him!

OP, the issue is clearly that Trump didn’t have enough women on his team.

OpizpuHeuvHiyo · 25/07/2024 14:33

You are being sexist.

A lot of women don't have the required skills and characteristics to be effective in these kinds of circumstances. Some do.

A lot of men don't have the required skills and characteristics to be effective in these kinds of circumstances. Some do.

Because of the physical differences between men and women the proportions between the haves and have-nots are different for the two sexes. Obviously.

It's stupid and sexist to have any blanket rule to say women can't do a specific role.

Instead you have a well defined list of the skills and characteristics needed to do the job well. These can include strength, speed, reaction time, accuracy of aim etc. Having a willy isn't going to be one of the required characteristics. If a woman has all the required characteristics she can do the job. If a lot more men than women meet the required characteristics that's fine, not sexism.

Realduchymarmalade · 25/07/2024 14:34

Of course it should be a male job. Those women looked ridiculous and I felt embarrassed for them. But you won’t find many on here to agree with you OP.

zzar45 · 25/07/2024 14:34

Because the male police officer stamping on the head of someone already contained and on the ground is a great example of modern policing.

PangolinPan · 25/07/2024 14:35

I happen to know a bit about how personal protective officers are trained and any failings there with nothing to do with whether the officers had vaginas or penises.
More like a training failure which doesn't discriminate. And the papers the next day showed how underfunded the secret service had become.

So you'd tell a female officer to go away in the event of an emergency?

Men actually often back down to female officers and up the ante to male officers.

That said, I've been in plenty of fights over the years with and without any male colleagues around as back up and never l have I lost a prisoner. Sometimes fights end up with people including officers injured, sometimes you get the cuffs in before that happens.

It's not a sex issue.

Although I do recall several old ladies tutting and leaving the church hall in a huff once when I attended a burglary call because they had hoped for a nice for young man to chat to 😂😂

Coulddowithanap · 25/07/2024 14:35

So what other jobs shouldn't women do?

How much of policing is fighting violent men who are bigger than you v using your brain and your voice?

Nikkic2123 · 25/07/2024 14:37

I always said there are men's jobs and women's jobs and I do believe this.
With my bro being a 6ft tall FF some of his female colleagues couldn't get him out if he required it.

Do you remember that the Paris bombing and a few others around that time could only be carried out because the men didn't follow procedures? While women are being promoted because they give BJs to the bosses, then we'll have fuck ups. We need a mix of people in the planning and operational force.
