Is this dress a bit “much” for a wedding?

Dress code for the wedding is cocktail/black tie. I think it suits me (size 10/decent boobs). SIL thinks it’s great. MIL asked if I would be comfortable. DP said it’s very “different”.

YABU - it’s not appropriate
YANBU - wear it

Looks fine to me!

Greenlittecat · 14/07/2024 15:02

A good rule of thumb is if you have to think about it, it's probably not appropriate.

That said, I think it's a lovely dress and absolutely fits what I think of black tie.

Persiancouscous · 14/07/2024 15:02

I like it.

LaLaLouella · 14/07/2024 15:02

For a black tie wedding, I think it's fabulous

jazzyBBBB · 14/07/2024 15:03

It's a cocktail theme though - it's fine! I'd wear that if I had the figure. Crack on.

HippeePrincess · 14/07/2024 15:03

For a cocktail black tie style event then yes, it’s not traditional but doesn’t sound like a traditional event

Mrsjayy · 14/07/2024 15:04

Oh it is a bit much, I mean its lovely but really has a LOOK AT ME feel about it !

vincettenoir · 14/07/2024 15:04

I’m not a fan. But if you’re in doubt maybe ask the bride?

paywalled · 14/07/2024 15:04

Depends on the type of wedding, but I think it’s a bit too frou frou for a day wedding.

Tunder · 14/07/2024 15:04

It’s perfect

MrsBrightsidde · 14/07/2024 15:05

I’ve been to many black tie weddings and I think a dress like that would be too much.

JoyousPinkPeer · 14/07/2024 15:05

Looks fabulous, as long as you have a wrap in case it's cold weather

finalboss · 14/07/2024 15:06

I love it

DoThePropeller · 14/07/2024 15:06

The skirt feels a bit bridal and too much, I’d get something else. Perfect for a ball or other black tie event.

NextFriYAY · 14/07/2024 15:06

It’s fabulous! Very suited to a black tie / cocktail wedding dress code. Wear it and enjoy the compliments.

spriots · 14/07/2024 15:06

On me that would be a lot of boob on show - more than I would feel comfortable with - but if you're tall and have a small bust, could look fine

Percivaleverett · 14/07/2024 15:07

I would have said no but because of the theme I think it might work. Do you know what others are planning to wear?

JC03745 · 14/07/2024 15:07

Are you wearing it in black, or does it come in other colours? I agree, if you need to ask then no, not appropriate. Is the ceremony in a church? If so, that plunging neck line looks very revealing. Do you have doubled sided tape?
(Yes, I'm just jealous that I haven't had boobs which are perky enough to stay up in that since I was 16. 😆)

Completely agree!

MonsteraMama · 14/07/2024 15:10

I think it's gorgeous, great for black tie/cocktail. Very Bond. Honestly if someone is insecure enough to be upset by a bit of boob or tulle at their wedding that's their problem.

whathasitgottodowiththepriceofoliveoil · 14/07/2024 15:12

Gorgeous - like a black swan. Ignore the jealousy.

TheSixQuarks · 14/07/2024 15:12

If you normally trust your husband's opinion I'd go with that. I like the dress but could be quite booby if you have "decent boobs".

Hankunamatata · 14/07/2024 15:14

Iv never been to a black tie/cocktail wedding.
My first thought it was a bit much for a wedding but then I googled cocktail dresses and seems to be on the nail. As long as you don't have massive boob's it fine otherwise may look a bit ott

Junesuns · 14/07/2024 15:15

Nope, too loud.
