Is this dress a bit “much” for a wedding?

Dress code for the wedding is cocktail/black tie. I think it suits me (size 10/decent boobs). SIL thinks it’s great. MIL asked if I would be comfortable. DP said it’s very “different”.

YABU - it’s not appropriate
YANBU - wear it

You know your friends op and you know what would be ott. For me, the colour of the dusty pink dress is the thing, which makes it more a wedding guest dress. If it were me, I’d rather your black dress had a bit of contrasting embellishment so not plain black. Perhaps accessories would make a difference? Eg a good statement necklace and so forth.
