Is this dress a bit “much” for a wedding?

Dress code for the wedding is cocktail/black tie. I think it suits me (size 10/decent boobs). SIL thinks it’s great. MIL asked if I would be comfortable. DP said it’s very “different”.

YABU - it’s not appropriate
YANBU - wear it

I love it, and as the dress code is black tie, seems perfect

Piffle11 · 14/07/2024 16:10

It’s not suitable. It’s not a cocktail dress, and you need to be pretty much flat chested for this dress to work.

Getonwitit · 14/07/2024 16:11

God lord no.

Bluevelvetsofa · 14/07/2024 16:11

I think it’s a lovely dress, but not for a wedding.

No you don't. Look at OP's pic.

Oh it is a bit much, I mean its lovely but really has a LOOK AT ME feel about it !

Absolutely this! The "look at me" look should be reserved for the bride!

FredFredandFreddie · 14/07/2024 16:12

I love it! I would wear it if I could pull it off

I’ve seen the photo- despite the cleavage being blurred, I can see that it’s too much for a wedding. I doubt the bride had this in mind when she said cocktail attire. It’s not a cocktail dress!

Greenlittecat · 14/07/2024 16:13

I think you look great! I don't think you look too boob-y either.

Unless I've missed an update, if this is just a normal wedding and not a black-tie/evening sort of wedding I don't think it's appropriate tbh. Especially in summer when most people will be wearing floral xxx

Gorgeous - like a black swan. Ignore the jealousy.

No one is jealous 🙄. @Northerngirl345 asked if okay for a wedding so she's going to expect yes and no answers.

Joking about boobs not being like they were at 16 is not jealousy from that poster.

I am a no for the dress. Reminds me of Christine Lampard's wedding dress which was too much imo.

Valeriesimpleton · 14/07/2024 16:13

I absolutely love it! Caveat is that it wouldn't look the same on someone who wasn't pretty thin. There's a fine line between the photo and the Dawn French ballerina sketch

spriots · 14/07/2024 16:14

Seeing you in it, I think you look nice in it but it is a bit Wednesday Addams and personally I think it's inappropriately revealing for a wedding (I am sure someone will call me a pearl clutcher shortly)

I also think you have such a great figure, you would look a lot better in something else

Thisoldheartofmine · 14/07/2024 16:15

I think it's too low cut , sorry.>

Valeriesimpleton · 14/07/2024 16:15

Sorry just saw your photo. You look great! It's a lovely dress and I am probably going to have to buy one.

Valeriesimpleton · 14/07/2024 16:15

Apologies for typos but you get the gist

I meant the jealousy at the wedding.

You look lovely but not for a wedding.

AnneKipankitoo · 14/07/2024 16:18

No.

AnneKipankitoo · 14/07/2024 16:19

It is a bit much I mean!

HowDidJudithSurvive · 14/07/2024 16:19

You look absolutely stunning in it OP - I would ask about what others are wearing as it is a lot for a wedding. Definitely keep it though as you look amazing.

Also @Northerngirl345 When someone calls something 'different' (as your DH did,) it is NEVER a compliment - EVER.

Ditto "interesting"

Kittynoodle · 14/07/2024 16:22

I thinks it’s a show stealing dress which is why it’s inappropriate

Kittynoodle · 14/07/2024 16:25

Also I have to say it belongs on someone in their twenties, young and willowy

Prawncow · 14/07/2024 16:25

It looks good on you but I’m not sure about it for a wedding. Is there a sit down meal? How does it look when you sit at a table? I’d be worried about the fabric gaping and showing too much.

WhereDidItG0 · 14/07/2024 16:25

I'm not really a fashion person, but I really don't like those low cut ones. They make it hard not to stare and if I do dare to look then the sight makes me feel really really uncomfortable. I would much rather that the person decently covered.
