To think it'd not be mad to put the heating on?

It's July. And I won't put the heating on out of principle. And because it'd make me so sad to have the heating on when it's technically summer. I know that I should have the heating on depending on the temperature and not the season but I can't bring myself to 'admitting' that it's not summer.

But I'm sitting here, on a work call, thinking how cold it is even though I'm wearing jeans and a jumper. I can't be the only one surely, who's cold enough to long for the heating to be on even though it's July... I'm in the South of England.

I’ve had mine on. I’ve been cold

shellyleppard · 12/07/2024 18:48

Put mine on last month, house was too cold 🥶 🥶

summeroccupation · 12/07/2024 18:48

I had mine on for a bit earlier. I was cold, and my cats were feeling it too. I'm heading in the shower shortly and will stick it on for a bit so it's not chilly when I get out. It's currently 16c in my flat though!

Lifeinlists · 12/07/2024 18:51

It's not July, OP. We've skipped to October.
Put the heating on!

Netcam · 12/07/2024 18:53

Not put heating on, but wearing clothes I usually wear in winter. Actually dared to wash my winter coat a couple of days ago, not sure if I dare to put it away for a few months once it dry!

TomatoSandwiches · 12/07/2024 18:53

I'm in the SE and it's gloomy but still 18°C here, I'm sat in shorts and a shirt with the fan on me.

Sundaysiesta56 · 12/07/2024 18:54

Feels wrong to put it on in July but also feels wrong to pay £200+ per month and still be cold, so I just put it on!

thistimelastweek · 12/07/2024 18:56

You are being totally unreasonable.
An oodie and a hot water bottle is more than adequate.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 12/07/2024 18:57

The heating? I know the weather is shit for July, but I'm in Cumbria, so it's likely more crappy than where you are. I'm in the kitchen with short sleeves and bare legs with the back door open and dh is outside barbecuing! Maybe 10 years of being a southerner in the NW has toughened me up Grin

Fifthtimelucky · 12/07/2024 19:10

Goodness. Surely it can't be that cold?

I'm also in the south of England. It's been dull here today, but not particularly cold. We've had a small window in the sitting room window open all day and the room temperature at the moment is over 22.

HermioneWeasley · 12/07/2024 19:13

ha! I’ve found my people. I am under two blankets and was contemplating the heating earlier.

WrigglyDonCat · 12/07/2024 19:21

Also S England, right on the coast so usually a degree two cooler than inland. Been in shorts and t-shirt all day, mostly outside. Hardly warm for the time of year but pretty humid and hardly cold either.

But then I've not had the heating on since early Jan and there are rumours that one of my ancestors may have had a dalliance with a polar bear.

Ilikewinter · 12/07/2024 19:22

Our stat says its 18 degrees but it just feels damp/chilly. I'm sat with my winter throw on my legs.

Bunchymcbunchface · 12/07/2024 19:24

Mines set at 18 degrees. It’s been sporadically coming on for the last few weeks. The fires have been lit in sitting rooms in the evenings too.

horses been wearing medium weight rugs (spring/autum weight)
it’s been down to single figures at night here

Notthatcatagain · 12/07/2024 19:25

My house is cold enough that the thermostat has put the heating on for me

PalmelaHanderson · 12/07/2024 19:27

Its bloody freezing!

AFmammaG · 12/07/2024 19:27

I refused to put mine on. Shut the windows to keep out the draft. Wore extra layers. Was tidying my little girls room and found mould at the back of the wardrobe 😭 never had it before. Can only imagine it’s from drying washing inside, having the windows shut and the heating off.

SeatonCarew · 12/07/2024 19:27

I've finally cracked and put mine on this evening. It's miserable. I've still got the heater on in the lounge while it warms up.

NetflixAndKill · 12/07/2024 19:27

My heatings never been off!

S0livagant · 12/07/2024 19:28

Where in the south? Coastal? We are in the south and the windows are open.

mrsfollowill · 12/07/2024 19:29

I've just turned my thermostat up out of curiosity and it clicked the heating on at 13C so I'm leaving it on for an hour- I've felt chilly most of today but in the last hour I've sat down to relax/have a glass of wine and I'm cold. Wearing leggings/jumper and sheepskin slippers- not in shorts and t shirt!

mrsfollowill · 12/07/2024 19:29

I'm in Yorkshire btw

countvoncount · 12/07/2024 19:29

My electric blanket gave up the ghost in April, I thought I'd wait until October or November to replace it.
New one arriving tomorrow!!!

ApolloandDaphne · 12/07/2024 19:30

We are out in the garden having dinner and drinks. We live on the east coast of Scotland. It's lovely today.

Mine in South Wales hasn’t got over 20.5 for weeks.
I don’t put heating on or off. It’s set with a thermostat, if it goes below 18 in the evening it will come on (or a few hours in the morning).
