To think it'd not be mad to put the heating on?

It's July. And I won't put the heating on out of principle. And because it'd make me so sad to have the heating on when it's technically summer. I know that I should have the heating on depending on the temperature and not the season but I can't bring myself to 'admitting' that it's not summer.

But I'm sitting here, on a work call, thinking how cold it is even though I'm wearing jeans and a jumper. I can't be the only one surely, who's cold enough to long for the heating to be on even though it's July... I'm in the South of England.

Disturbia. I’ve lost over 2 stones and feel much colder than I did too. I’m usually baking hot and sweaty once the temp outdoors gets above 20 but not this year. I’m freezing. For me too, it’s made a massive difference. I used to overheat really easily before I lost weight. Even the HRT I take, made no difference to that.

Same here and yes I've heard the same with HRT, that that is not actually making a difference temperature wise. The extra weight thing makes sense doesn't it, a thicker layer of fat will of course make us feel warmer, like seals 😆
I look after someone who is 26 stone and she never feels the cold.
But yeah also sugar and carbs make a huge difference to me. Even though I have less fat on now, if I sat and had some toast and sweetened coffee now I would feel hot for a good while.

I'm not thin at all and I'm still feeling cold. Came to visit a friend and this is the weather today! Wish I'd stayed at home - it's 2c warmer and dry!

To think it'd not be mad to put the heating on?

Mine kicked in earlier, thermostat is set to 18. It was 9 degrees here in the night.

FrenchandSaunders · 13/07/2024 13:08

It has to be properly cold for me to put the heating on. Thankfully DH feels the same and we have windows open all year round. I hate the stuffiness of central heating and would rather layer up a bit.

When we go into our neighbours i can barely breathe 😳

I'll be fucking miserable and in pain like every other winter.

@JohnTheRevelator

this. It should not be like this in July - this weather is piss poor and people are allowed to complain about it.

HesGotHisTrombolyse · 13/07/2024 22:30

I had a shower this evening - afterwards I had to put socks back on because my bare feet were freezing!

I bought a hot water bottle to bed. 😩😩😩

Toddlerteaplease · 14/07/2024 01:37

I was seriously tempted the other night. I was freezing!

DinnaeFashYersel · 14/07/2024 02:48

We've got the heating on

Disturbia81 · 14/07/2024 09:43

@LuckySantangelo35 Who is saying you can't complain? We're allowed to moan, it's what we're good at 😆

Butterfly44 · 14/07/2024 10:34

I took out my heated blanket yesterday, which was enough

HesGotHisTrombolyse · 15/07/2024 12:40

I've cracked. I just turned the heating on. It's 14 degrees and raining.

Where do you live?!
(genuine Q)

AFmammaG · 15/07/2024 13:40

Raining here too and I have a blanket on me as I work at home.

Do you know what really bothers me? Not being able to plan anything for the summer holidays with the kids. I don’t want to spend hundreds of pounds to sit in a caravan for a week while it rains. Or go to a zoo and get soaked through. I don’t want to spend it crammed into a stinky soft play because it’s the only dry activity that doesn’t cost a fortune. Or do the museums. Again. God I feel miserable.

pinkspeakers · 15/07/2024 13:40

Ours is set with a thermostat at about 19 degrees. It has been coming on.

MimiGC · 15/07/2024 14:01

I wore a thermal vest to work the other day - in the South East, in July.

whirlyhead · 15/07/2024 14:03

It’s about 37 degrees where I am (spain). Equally unpleasant but in a different way!

HesGotHisTrombolyse · 15/07/2024 14:28

@noworklifebalance Surrey. But my brother is in Dorset and said it's 16 degrees in his home office. Not much better :-(

100% this. No pre-planned BBQs with friends, no eating out in a pretty beer garden, no day out walking around London or somewhere else. You can't plan anything and that's a PITN.

Can't these be planned the day before? That's what we're planning to do, buy the tickets the day before. The weather report is generally accurate 2/3 days in advance.

I know it's more difficult if you have to book annual leave or book with friends. And of course for holidays, it's pot luck.

Cremeroulety · 15/07/2024 14:38

Yeah I don’t care what anyone says I’m definitely allowed to find this weather grim for summer.

I’ll be going to east coast America later this year for a few weeks and I’ve checked out the weather forecasts for the States I’m visiting. They are all 18-23 degrees for the month I plan to go . And it tends to be less overcast so probably some nice blue skies too.

I’ll get more of a summer there during their autumn than what I’ve had here in July. Can’t wait!

celadora · 15/07/2024 14:41

Wednesday is set to be a rare day of high pressure, resulting in 24 degrees and sun! In the south.

Too bad I'm working 😂

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 15/07/2024 14:43

I'm wearing a knee length cotton dress, sandals and a light cardigan, where are you all that's so freezing!

I’m near Cardiff. It was 14 according to my car thermometer and pissing down with rain when I went to meet a friend at 2.30. Where are you that it’s not?
