To think it'd not be mad to put the heating on?

HesGotHisTrombolyse · 12/07/2024 18:46

It's July. And I won't put the heating on out of principle. And because it'd make me so sad to have the heating on when it's technically summer. I know that I should have the heating on depending on the temperature and not the season but I can't bring myself to 'admitting' that it's not summer.

But I'm sitting here, on a work call, thinking how cold it is even though I'm wearing jeans and a jumper. I can't be the only one surely, who's cold enough to long for the heating to be on even though it's July... I'm in the South of England.

I’m always freezing WFH I bundle up and put my heated blanket on, ok when I’m up and about running around after the kids and doing the housework.

@noworklifebalance Surrey. But my brother is in Dorset and said it's 16 degrees in his home office. Not much better :-(

I am surprised. We are in Kent, more towards London than Folkestone, and we have had the windows open every day. Quite warm out, albeit drizzly from time to time.

ChirpyBee · 15/07/2024 17:43

Got to call bs on the reports of 14 in central southern England. BBC weather states about 21 so not roasting but also not cold at all.

If you feel cold, put the heating on, but don't justify it by making up the temperature! You don't have to justify it to anyone. If you're happy wasting your money on heating in the summer, then fair play to you.

mybeautifulhorse · 15/07/2024 17:51

We're on holiday in Yorkshire and I packed two thermal vests! We live in Scotland so very used to the shit weather but still...

Really? Here you are, just northwest of Bath. It’s been pissing down all afternoon, I’ve lit the log burner (again)
Yesterday was 10° warmer🤷🏼‍♀️

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/07/2024 17:56

I had it on the other week

Put on for 20m. Made house all toasty

Turned it off

What's the point in sitting being cold when no need

You don't need heating on for 6hrs

I’m near Cardiff. It was 14 according to my car thermometer and pissing down with rain when I went to meet a friend at 2.30. Where are you that it’s not?

Essex. Currently 23 in my house, 19 outside, 20 outside earlier today

Isn’t the 13degC the night time temp?

Night time low 13, daytime high around 20. Nice try.

HesGotHisTrombolyse · 16/07/2024 10:05

I asked Alexa and right now it's 16 degrees here :-(

really? It's 22 degrees in our house. Get up and move around! We don't even put our thermostat on 22 degrees in winter.

Wotcher · 16/07/2024 10:27

I’m up north and it’s not cold. It’s grey and wet and miserable. But it isn’t cold 🫤

Currently sat at home (working) in a t shirt.

Not 22c everywhere though is it? It's been 14c near me, cold and wet

TheRiddle · 12/07/2024 19:57

The only answer I have come up with is the people feeling cold are very slim (or skinny) and so feel the cold more or are suffering from the viruses going about which make you feel shivery.

Certainly I feel the cold more when slim than just now (not slim!) but I put the washing out at 4pm and am about to bring it in now bone dry.

Slim or skinny people (the ones that don’t have to work at it) often have faster metabolisms so they run warm.

sentfrmmyiphone · 16/07/2024 10:31

oh i did yesterday... that said i was carry a temperature and not well

focacciamuffin · 16/07/2024 10:34

It’s not particularly cold in our house at the moment, low 20s, but I was surprised to see that it’s only 14.5 outside. South midlands.

Misthios · 16/07/2024 10:36

I feel your pain OP. The feeling cold and simultaneously feeling furious that you are even contemplating putting the heating on in July.

Depressing.

curtaintwitcher78 · 16/07/2024 10:37

We have ours set to kick in and switch on if the temperature lowers to a certain point in the early hours. I can't remember what it is but it's fairly low and just an early morning security blanket. Some mornings over the last couple of weeks I've got up for work and found the heating is on. It's been THAT cold.

Disturbia81 · 16/07/2024 10:56

So I'm really cold at home and have had heating on and fire. Haven't put fan on once

But out and about it's humid and can be very warm on public transport etc, I haven't been cold at all, and take my portable fan everywhere and have been using it

Weird 😆

GasPanic · 16/07/2024 11:33

I suppose if you maintain your house at 20C in the winter then there is no logical reason why you should not have the heating come on to maintain it at 20C in the summer.

It's been well below 20C outside for the past few days for me, but the house seems to be staying at 20C despite some of the windows being open all the time.I guess it is probably due to the "sun" on the roof.

So far I have never turned my CH on between April and October, although I did have the gas fire on a couple of times in April.

ihatecoffee · 16/07/2024 12:05

We had the heating on last night.
It's damp out there and cold!

Needed to warm up ourselves and the house....

@Peonies12

what if you can’t get up and move around? Like if you work from home and need to sit at a computer?

Maybe as a night time low but certainly not generally during the day, more like 19-21 during the day.

Unless you live in the part of the south Midlands that is actually in the far north of Scotland?

PickAChew · 16/07/2024 16:24

In contrast to Sunday with a high of 12, we've reached 19 in my part of the NE, today. I'm watching some rather nasty rain on the radar, slowly heading towards us, though. At least I got some washing dry outside for the first time in ages and I managed to get out and attack some of the weeds that have been loving thr rain.

QuestionableMouse · 16/07/2024 21:01

It was vaguely sunny when I picked my nephews up from school. Felt nice to see a bit of blue sky!

Then spoiled it all by pissing down about 7pm!

@PickAChew i think we live in the same town? 🤔😂
