To think it'd not be mad to put the heating on?

HesGotHisTrombolyse · 12/07/2024 18:46

It's July. And I won't put the heating on out of principle. And because it'd make me so sad to have the heating on when it's technically summer. I know that I should have the heating on depending on the temperature and not the season but I can't bring myself to 'admitting' that it's not summer.

But I'm sitting here, on a work call, thinking how cold it is even though I'm wearing jeans and a jumper. I can't be the only one surely, who's cold enough to long for the heating to be on even though it's July... I'm in the South of England.

I ent put the heating in but I just got back from 32 degree weather in Spain. My gas fire is looking tempting though!

We are out in the garden having dinner and drinks. We live on the east coast of Scotland. It's lovely today.

Grey, damp and chilly in South Wales.

It's not July, OP. We've skipped to October.
Put the heating on!

This is what I said today. The heating goes on if I'm cold, no matter the month.

AnnieMcFanny · 12/07/2024 19:33

I’ve had it on for a couple of weeks now.

It’s the same where I am in Wales. In fact it’s cold. Not chilly.

25thCenturyQuaker · 12/07/2024 19:37

12 degrees and cloudy here on the Sefton coast. I've so far resisted putting the heating back on, but it's been a real temptation this past week. My husband, who has decided he's coming down with something, has retired to bed with a hot water bottle. Frankly, I don't blame him!

celadora · 12/07/2024 19:38

I put on my tesco oodie, nice and warm, staved off the need for heating.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 12/07/2024 19:43

I've been wearing my thick dressing gown over my clothes 😡

BestZebbie · 12/07/2024 19:43

Currently OK moving about/cooking in fluffy dressing gown and boot slippers over clothes - but not exactly "warm". When sitting down & after dark, very likely to have a fan heater on next to me for a bit to heat up the immediate area.

Cheersmedears123 · 12/07/2024 19:51

How on earth do you cope in the winter?? I’m currently sat in front of a fan and have to keep mopping up rainwater from the windowsills because it’s too warm to close them.

ElizaMulvil · 12/07/2024 19:52

23 degrees when I left S. London yesterday evening. Sunny.

11 degrees last night 10.30pm as I arrived home in the rain/10 degrees this morning 7.30am. Derbyshire/Yorkshire border.

We need compensation.

39% of people saying OP is being unreasonable- why?!?! WHY?!

TheRiddle · 12/07/2024 19:55

I don't understand this. I'm in central Scotland and the coldest room in the house (east facing) is 20 degrees and feels very warm. The west side of the house is at 24 degrees and roasting. My washing has been dried all summer out doors apart from once when I stomped around because I had to dry it indoors as it was too rainy.

Don't get me wrong we've had a few days of very heavy rain so I didn't do washing those days. We've had quite a few days where it's rained very lightly on and off but the washing always dries by the end of the day.

I was out with dog this afternoon and utterly roasting and dog was panting and trying to find shade. He refused his evening walk bar a few pees in the street then wanted to go home.

I honestly don't understand these threads saying summer has been awful unless Scotland is becoming warmer than the rest of the UK?

RealHedgehog · 12/07/2024 19:56

YANBU

I have Raynaud's disease and am dealing with the cold purple hands that normally aren't an issue in July.

Summer is normally the time of year where I get to frolic in a T shirt with the rest of society instead of my usual 6 jumpers and 2 pairs of socks. Not this year.

Sad times :(

Fifthtimelucky · 12/07/2024 19:10

Goodness. Surely it can't be that cold?

I'm also in the south of England. It's been dull here today, but not particularly cold. We've had a small window in the sitting room window open all day and the room temperature at the moment is over 22.

Goodness it can be!

To think it'd not be mad to put the heating on?
Crikeyalmighty · 12/07/2024 19:57

@AllProperTeaIsTheft it's clearly better up there than here in Bath where it's 14 degrees - gloomy as hell and raining

TheRiddle · 12/07/2024 19:57

The only answer I have come up with is the people feeling cold are very slim (or skinny) and so feel the cold more or are suffering from the viruses going about which make you feel shivery.

Certainly I feel the cold more when slim than just now (not slim!) but I put the washing out at 4pm and am about to bring it in now bone dry.

LuckySantangelo35 · 12/07/2024 19:58

maybe end of July and August will be roasting - here’s hoping!! 🤞 ☀️

Or maybe it's just cold.

My house is cold enough that the thermostat has put the heating on for me

Mine too. I expect all the people who like cosy snuggling under a blanket in their jim jams will be happy.

Bumbletown · 12/07/2024 19:59

Really? It’s not that cold- I’m in the south of England and currently sitting out in the garden with a glass of wine, in a t shirt

MaryRoze · 12/07/2024 19:59

Roasting here in my part of NE Scotland today. I'm still sitting outside and have all the windows and patio doors open.

Crikeyalmighty · 12/07/2024 19:59

Ours has literally been off all day for about 7 days since May in total (Glastonbury weekend was I think 4 of them)

Not everyone lives in the south of England.

But op is in the south of England..not Scarborough!
