To think it'd not be mad to put the heating on?

HesGotHisTrombolyse · 12/07/2024 18:46

It's July. And I won't put the heating on out of principle. And because it'd make me so sad to have the heating on when it's technically summer. I know that I should have the heating on depending on the temperature and not the season but I can't bring myself to 'admitting' that it's not summer.

But I'm sitting here, on a work call, thinking how cold it is even though I'm wearing jeans and a jumper. I can't be the only one surely, who's cold enough to long for the heating to be on even though it's July... I'm in the South of England.

Not everyone lives in the south of England.

Obviously, but Op does.

Mine too. I expect all the people who like cosy snuggling under a blanket in their jim jams will be happy.

How boring

Or maybe it's just cold.

You may be right of course but as traditionally Scotland was always cold compared to further south I find these threads baffling. Better start appreciating our scottish weather then!

Hateliars34 · 12/07/2024 20:03

Where do you live OP?

I'm in the south and today was T-shirt weather. It's been a bit gloomy this week, but not at all cold. Would be insane to have the heating on.

countcalculia · 12/07/2024 20:04

West London here, DH sleeps with the fan on, whilst I huddle in the duvet.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 12/07/2024 20:08

I'm in the south east and I've been out in T-shirt and jeans mowing the lawns. It's definitely not cold here, in fact it was lovely and warm when the sun was out.

How on earth do you cope in the winter?? I’m currently sat in front of a fan and have to keep mopping up rainwater from the windowsills because it’s too warm to close them.

What’s the temperature where you are?

Greyrockin · 12/07/2024 20:11

TheRiddle · 12/07/2024 19:57

The only answer I have come up with is the people feeling cold are very slim (or skinny) and so feel the cold more or are suffering from the viruses going about which make you feel shivery.

Certainly I feel the cold more when slim than just now (not slim!) but I put the washing out at 4pm and am about to bring it in now bone dry.

Well I'm fat and a menopausal sweatbag, but have still had the heating on a few times this month.

DontGetMeStartedOnThatAgain · 12/07/2024 20:11

I'm in the East Midlands, and it's cold here. I was just thinking about putting the heating on. Mad, isn't it?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 12/07/2024 20:12

I heat my environment in accordance to need, not in accordance with the calendar. Ditto what I wear. I inwardly laugh at people I see in Tesco's this time of year wearing shorts, T shirt and flip flops when it's 14 degrees outside. I always wonder if they go home to a house where the heating is blazing just becuase they prefer to wear minimal clothes.

However if I've got a tshirt, trousers, socks and slippers, jacket/cardi on in my house and I'm still cold, and none of my washing is drying then yeah, my heating's going on for an hour to take the chill off.

Hellskitchen24 · 12/07/2024 20:12

South East here. No way is it cold enough for heating, that’s mad. I’ve had my socks and jumper on at various points in the last month (evenings), but windows and doors are open all the time when I’m in. And have the fan on at night!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 12/07/2024 20:13

cardibach · 12/07/2024 20:10

What’s the temperature where you are?

To be fair, it's often warmer when it rains, though, this time of year.

Barney16 · 12/07/2024 20:14

I'm sat on the sofa wearing a winter jumper over my summer frock because inside my house is cold. Generally I'm wearing the same clothes I was wearing in March/April and the three new summer dresses I bought are unworn with the tags still attached. And just to reinforce how chilly it's been I still have my teddy bedding on my bed 😞

dizzydizzydizzy · 12/07/2024 20:17

I'm on the SE. I know it's really cold for the time of year but I've had my back door open all day and have been wearing shorts and a t-shirt. I did briefly curl up under a blanket but can't imagine putting the heating on.

It's 8pm and tbe back door is still wide open and my thermometer says it's 22C indoors.

Shan5474 · 12/07/2024 20:18

Well what is the temperature inside your house? I’m also in the south of England, it’s grey and wet and 15° today but my house is 21°. If it was 15° in here I’d also put the heating on

NamingConundrum · 12/07/2024 20:19

NE here. No heating and its 21 degrees in my house.

TheRiddle · 12/07/2024 20:19

Greyrockin · 12/07/2024 20:11

Well I'm fat and a menopausal sweatbag, but have still had the heating on a few times this month.

Okay well that blows that theory out of the water then. Scotland must just be getting better weather.

Ghost2 · 12/07/2024 20:21

I very nearly put a heater on earlier today, I've already added a blanket to the bed. It is freezing this week

Doggymummar · 12/07/2024 20:22

I'm on the sofa in my Christmas pyjamas and with my electric blanket on. Just outside Brighton. It's miserable and 70pc chance if rain all weekend. Deep joy.

BanditsBiscuits · 12/07/2024 20:24

It's 12° here and it's flippin freezing. I'm outside most of the day in my job and I cannot get warm now.

tara66 · 12/07/2024 20:34

Get thermal vests - or any kind of warm vests.
One use to be able to get a gossamer fine wool vest that was sexy and warm.

unsync · 12/07/2024 20:36

Ours has been on twice so far this month.

@tara66

lol

a) vests are not sexy
b) we shouldn’t have to wear shitty vests in JULY!!!

DayIntarnishedarmour · 12/07/2024 20:41

im in Yorkshire. I’ve not resorted to putting the heating on but have put the electric blanket back in the bed, got my padded winter jacket back out and thermal tops and got the thickest throws out of storage. Yesterday I felt shivery when I was out and wished I’d put my winter coat on.

JaceLancs · 12/07/2024 20:41

I‘m in the damp and cooler north west and am sat with a shirt and crop pants - patio doors open enjoying fresh air after the rain earlier - still on summer duvet too
