Is there any point of losing weight?

So DD just turned 3, I’ve struggled with losing weight via c section since getting pregnant. Before pregnancy I was 50kg and I’m 5’3 tall, I’m now 76kg and struggling to eat less, I don’t eat unhealthy, but I follow meals with my toddler on three meals and two snacks. The issue is we would like another baby but DH wants me to lose the weight and be slimmer before we start trying at the end of this year. In my eyes I don’t believe I’m overweight, I just feel like I was too skinny before and he thinks that’s normal. I don’t know should I lose weight before trying for another baby or do that after the next baby? I just feel like it’s such a waste of effort if I’m going to put all the weight on again when pregnant.

It depends on your BMI really. If your BMI is high it raises the risks of a lot of things in your pregnancy so it is worth losing the weight to have a healthy pregnancy and baby.

If your BMI is in the healthy range and its just losing weight for your appearance then theres no need to lose weight if you're happy with your body so if you can't be bothered then it doesn't matter.

Lokshen · 29/06/2024 22:08

At that weight and height you are bordering on obese (from BMI). That is not a healthy position to start a pregnancy.
It is very reasonable to eat with your child, as it helps with communication and table manners, but you need to be making healthy choices (for you and them) and reducing portion size dramatically. You could drop snacks as a start.

DeedlessIndeed · 29/06/2024 22:09

Can you elaborate why DH wants you to lose weight?

cestlavielife · 29/06/2024 22:10

Speak to your GP about it

I mean I’m a size ten at marks and Spencer’s, snacks are like a fruit or sugar free jelly or popcorn. I use to only eat one to two meals a day so it definitely feels like I eat lots now. I do need to find out my bmi though, so I will contact the go and find out. Thanks

He thinks I look fat, I’m a size 10 at marks and Spencer’s, I got seven items there last week so I know. I don’t think I look fat, but i definitely have two tummy rolls 🫣 pre pregnancy was a six pac so it’s definitely different

You don't need to contact the GP to find out your BMI, use the NHS calculator on line.

TheKeatingFive · 29/06/2024 22:26

Vanity sizing means that todays sizes mean nothing Find out your bmi as a starting point.

AhBiscuits · 29/06/2024 22:28

I'm very surprised you're a size 10 at 5ft 3 and 76kg.

AhBiscuits · 29/06/2024 22:32

It is worth losing a few lbs OP, you'll have a mountain to climb after your nect baby otherwise.

CosFuckThatGuy · 29/06/2024 22:33

He thinks you look fat?

He can get fucked, can't he.

I'm the same weight as you, but the difference between us is that I used to weigh 96kg, so I feel fucking awesome now. And I bought a size 10 dress today, and size small t shirts, and I feel great.

You don't lose weight because someone else says so, you commit to it when you're ready, able, and want to prioritise it. Tell him to fuck right off!

Yes I just checked when someone mentioned the nhs calculator, guess I need to actually lose a bit of weight to a healthier pregnancy for the end of this year.

I weigh about 4kg under you and same height. I’m a size 10 in marks too, it’s completely believable that this is true.

Are you a pear? I am and I think this contributes to how slim I look when I’m actually quite heavy. My upper body gets gaunt and the lower half never changes. I grow muscle really quickly too. I get told I’m looking scrawny all the time and you can see my ribs in my chest.

Back to the question - I’d lose a little just because it’s easier to fall pregnant because of hormonal issues, but that’s the only reason, not because your DH says you should.

thaisweetchill · 29/06/2024 22:34

The only weight you need to lose is that 'D'H.

Zanatdy · 29/06/2024 22:35

Well your DH is rude. But yes if I was you I’d be losing a stone or so before the next baby, or it will be even harder. Work out your TDEE and deduct 500 cals a day for sensible weight loss.

Whatsnormalhere · 29/06/2024 22:36

Honestly, it’s easy to kid ourselves but what has changed my lifestyle completely is cutting down dramatically on ultra processed foods. Do some research and see if it’s something you want to do but I would highly recommend for a healthier lifestyle and you will naturally see your weight come down

Love this!! ❤️❤️
I think when people say to me I’m a bit fat I think after a while it gets to me. my mum also mentioned it recently and my toddler asked if I was having a baby which got me thinking! But my bmi is a little high so I will lose a bit of weight to be healthier and not because others are telling me I’m a bit fat.

Im a size 10 at 5’3 and a bit and almost 20 kg lighter than you so not sure how that can reliably be. While you may not wish to be as skinny as you were before I would check your BMI and if it’s not healthy you have your answer I think.

That’s mad because I’m the same height and weight as you (and lighter than OP) and I’m a 14 in M and S. I’m also a pear shape. I don’t know where you are all storing your fat if you’re size 10s (don’t doubt you just amazed).

thenightsky · 29/06/2024 22:40

Gutted. I'm 70kg and 5ft 9in. I can only dream of being a size 10.

So my legs and arms are not big, it’s my waist and tummy and okay thighs are bigger, but I have that baby pouch after my c section and it just kind of hangs there. So I kind of look pregnant, and really pregnant after eating and constantly blotted. But yes definitely since looking at the bmi, which actually completely forgot about, will lose some weight before trying for baby end of the year.

Interesting.

I don’t want to ask what your measurements are but I can assure you I am 💯 a 10 in marks / peacocks and sometimes New Look. I’m a S in H&M tops but a 16 in their skirts or jeans.

also just did my BMI and it says your waist should be under 50% of your height. Which would be 31.5 inches. My waist is 28…

my fat is in my arse, mate 😂

I got seven dresses, I have a tummy pouch since my c section, bum and thighs and waist is heavy, but my arms and legs are not. I don’t even know what shape I would call myself, I’m literally wide in the middle of me 🫣 I do think my bones are heavy in density though, as I use to be 54kg I was just looked like bones at one point

If you are more than very slightly overweight it is always worth trying to lose the excess because, sadly, there is no limit to how overweight you can become.
