Is there any point of losing weight?

So DD just turned 3, I’ve struggled with losing weight via c section since getting pregnant. Before pregnancy I was 50kg and I’m 5’3 tall, I’m now 76kg and struggling to eat less, I don’t eat unhealthy, but I follow meals with my toddler on three meals and two snacks. The issue is we would like another baby but DH wants me to lose the weight and be slimmer before we start trying at the end of this year. In my eyes I don’t believe I’m overweight, I just feel like I was too skinny before and he thinks that’s normal. I don’t know should I lose weight before trying for another baby or do that after the next baby? I just feel like it’s such a waste of effort if I’m going to put all the weight on again when pregnant.

I'm very surprised you're a size 10 at 5ft 3 and 76kg.

I was a size 8 when i was 69kg and i'm 5'1" so it's fully believable!

Calliopespa i do understand that, but the fact that someone who is 20kgs heavier than me is wearing the same trousers is the bit that foxes me. a few kgs extra, ok. 20 kgs extra...?

Not necessarily. I was at the low end of normal but not always menstruating regularly. I was advised to put on a few kilos before getting pregnant and as soon as I did it was like clockwork. So bmi was not an indicator of the ideal weight for me and it was far from a denial issue.

That's why you have to use a bit of common sense with the BMI. On an individual level it is not 100 percent accurate. It is a very good guide, however. If you have a BMI of 12 then yes, you have a problem. If you have a BMI of 30 then that's also problematic. On the outskirts of 'healthy' it's a bit more fuzzy. There isn't a massive health difference between 24.9 and 25 but one counts as overweight the other doesn't.

I ordered a top from m&s. I'm usually a 12-14 from Next so optimistically ordered a size 12.

The top was way too big for me, a could go down at least a size. Definitely coming larger than average.

I do think these things can vary more than we realise. I had a flatmate who was heavy and asked me one day to borrow a pair of my formal trousers for a job interview. They were an 8 and I privately thought to myself “ there is no way… please just don’t split them when trying them on.” But I felt I couldn’t say I thought they wouldn’t go near her. Yet I double-took as she slipped into them. It taught me that shape is very, very individual. She was heavy on top but when I looked she was quite trim below through the hips and thighs then had quite heavy calves.

I mean I’m a size ten at marks and Spencer’s, snacks are like a fruit or sugar free jelly or popcorn. I use to only eat one to two meals a day so it definitely feels like I eat lots now. I do need to find out my bmi though, so I will contact the go and find out. Thanks

I presume that's a typo for GP? Because there are lots of BMI calculators online - you don't need to wait to see the doctor. Or you can just work it out yourself - it's weight in kilos divided by height in metres squared.

5'3", 12 stone and a size 10 is pretty astonishing - you must have a lot of muscle or something. Or abnormally dense bones. When I was that weight at the same height I was a solid 16.
