To think it’s strange my neighbours never ever hang out their washing? Lovely day here but regardless they never hang their washing out?

Mine never use their garden at all, for anything.

Tumble dryers exist. HTH.

TisTheSummerSeason · 29/06/2024 12:08

YABU. We never hang washing out. We tumble dry everything.

Moier · 29/06/2024 12:08

I don't hang mine out.
My daughter will sometimes do it for my dresses after my hols.
But dresses l hang on hangers in spare bedroom on curtain pole with window open.
Everything else in tumbler.. but I'm disabled.

Wendysfriend · 29/06/2024 12:11

I don't even know if my neighbours have washing lines. Do you sit watching ? Maybe they hang clothes out when you're not playing I spy. Or maybe they have a drier.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/06/2024 12:13

I've never hung washing out in 30 years and I've always had a garden

(Heated airer/tumble dryer)

Maverickess · 29/06/2024 12:14

Don't hang mine out very often because I live near a fast food place and if it's not in by the time they start cooking it smells. I work shifts so not always home to get it in. And with the exception of last week it's pissed it down on every day off I've had.

Scampuss · 29/06/2024 12:16

Severe hayfever here, would much rather hang my washing out but I like being able to see and breathe.

QuitMoaning · 29/06/2024 12:17

I don’t hang outside as I am always out and about so risk it raining. We have a heated airer inside that we use all the time with occasional tumble dryer when urgent.

SpinningTops · 29/06/2024 12:17

I find this odd. If you have a garden and are capable of hanging it out then I don't know why you'd choose to spend £1 tumble drying it.

I love the smell of line dried laundry. I hang mine out throughout the year. Though this last year has been particularly rubbish with all the rain!!

whyamonthis · 29/06/2024 12:17

Why use the tumble dryer when it is a lovely day, seems weird to me!

There’s nothing like drying outdoors when you’re able to

Err, see my post above.

TheShellBeach · 29/06/2024 12:18

We haven't even got a washing line.

DH took it down years ago because we don't hang washing out. It looks untidy and ends up needing to be ironed. No thanks.

We either hang washing up on the airer or tumble dry it.

HTH

Yes, I sit home watching 😂

Lots of people have hayfever and drying washing outside makes it worse.
I also do my washing at night so dry it on the heated airer or dryer.

T1Dmama · 29/06/2024 12:19

When I worked full time I never hung washing out, had an airer in the spare room and that’s where it all went.
I used to be at work 24 hours at a time and never saw the point of leaving it out that long encase it rained.
My neighbour asked me once if I had a tumble dryer 😂

You just end up with a pile of ironing.

Neither of us likes ironing so we hang things up neatly inside.

Yes, we also tumble dry some stuff. This makes towels really soft and fluffy.

CurlewKate · 29/06/2024 12:23

I thought Mumsnetters never hang out washing in case someone sees their knickers....

I don’t hang out pants! Lol
everything else yes, but no pants or bras

MissMoneyFairy · 29/06/2024 12:24

The plot thickens.
Maybe they use the laundrette
Maybe they don't have a washing machine
Maybe they are ashamed to hang out their holey underpants
Maybe they like to do what they like with their own laundry

No ironing, or very little. Take out the machine as soon as it’s finished, hang it up and fold as soon as dries. Sorted. Only iron for special occasions.
