Washing and neighbours

To think it’s strange my neighbours never ever hang out their washing? Lovely day here but regardless they never hang their washing out?

It’s not unnecessary at all. My time is far too valuable to piss about hanging washing.

It’s a 10-15 minute job for able-bodied people. No wonder the planet is in such trouble when people aren’t prepared to spend such small amounts of time to try and do their bit (yet miraculously find time to post on internet forums).

Mine spend the whole summer complaining we use our washing line and don't have tumble dryer. I couldn't care less over her obsession with my washing.

LordPercyPercy · 01/07/2024 11:32

I just dry mine inside on a rack.

Why on earth not?!

There's a house near me whose garden runs alongside the street. They have a really high line and 1 day a week they hang 6 pairs of huge knickers (always 6) pegged each side which practically take up the whole line. Never anything else with the knickers and haven't actually noticed them hang anything else out at all.

Always makes me chuckle seeing them billowing in the breeze 😂

We haven't even got a washing line.

DH took it down years ago because we don't hang washing out. It looks untidy and ends up needing to be ironed. No thanks.

We either hang washing up on the airer or tumble dry it.

HTH

I hang out everything possible and never use an iron.

Clearly a scruffy mare 😁.

If you could see my neighbour’s garden from the street, I’d swear this was her!

I don't have a tumble drier, but don't have a washing line either - but I do have a drying rack inside, so not using electricity, but don't have to rely on the weather staying fine while I'm out at work

I have two small kids. I don’t have a spare 10-15 minutes 😂

I post on internet forums when I am breastfeeding. I cannot hang washing and breastfeed at the same time unfortunately 😅

have you got a car?
Do you take foreign holidays?
Actually do you take any holidays where you travel from home by any means?
Use a heated swimming pool
buy fast fashion?
Do you get my drift?

Don't hang mine out very often because I live near a fast food place and if it's not in by the time they start cooking it smells. I work shifts so not always home to get it in. And with the exception of last week it's pissed it down on every day off I've had.

And right on cue, 1st day off in 6, weeks worth of uniform to wash and it's raining. Haven't hung any out for 6 days because I've been at work and today it's raining 🤷🏼‍♀️.

It's in the drier. I need clean, dry & ironed uniform for work, the customers might be mortally offended if it's not so you know, needs must.

They likely have a tumble dryer or use a laundrette.

Additionally, there are services where cleaners collect, wash, dry, and return your clothes neatly folded.

Yep, I very much get your drift. I try very hard not to make an impact re all of the above! Eg no I don’t buy fast fashion or cheap plastic crap, try to walk or take public transport where possible etc etc etc - avoiding using a tumble drier is one of many, many ways I try not to add to climate change.

Oh sorry I hadn’t realised you were the first person ever to have to navigate life around two small children.

What are you talking about? Confused

My priorities lie elsewhere. My time is too valuable to piss about hanging washing when it takes less than a minute to shove it in a dryer.

And we’re back to my original point “No wonder the planet is in such trouble when people aren’t prepared to spend such small amounts of time to try and do their bit”.

majesticallycurvy · 01/07/2024 22:38

Because shoving the laundry in the tumble drier takes 2 minutes when you've got young children to look after as opposed to lugging the laundry outside to stand pegging it up to take it all down again. It's extra stress and time spent doing the laundry which no one wants to do anyway especially with kids to keep an eye on

I dry all my laundry indoors, no tumble dryer, but there are only two of us
