Washing and neighbours

To think it’s strange my neighbours never ever hang out their washing? Lovely day here but regardless they never hang their washing out?

I love hanging my washing out but can’t say I’ve ever noticed if my neighbours do or don’t 🤣🤣

Gloaminggnome · 29/06/2024 12:49

With the pollen count like it is at the moment I would die if I hung my washing out. It's a shame but I quite enjoy, yunno, breathing.

BusyMummy001 · 29/06/2024 12:49

I don’t have a line - spent ages planting and landscaping the garden, the last thing I want to look at on a day like today is a frigging washing line or share my undies with the neighbours, so never put a pole in.

I occasionally pop some items on an airer near my side door, if the dryer is being rubbish, but otherwise, nope.

I find this odd. If you have a garden and are capable of hanging it out then I don't know why you'd choose to spend £1 tumble drying it.

I love the smell of line dried laundry. I hang mine out throughout the year. Though this last year has been particularly rubbish with all the rain!!

I agree.

To me the default way to dry is our on the line.
I hate having to spend £ on using the dryer

Why use the tumble dryer when it is a lovely day, seems weird to me!

Disability
Joint issues
Hay-fever

Nothing wierd at all apart from watching what your neighbours do

PeppermintParty · 29/06/2024 12:53

I don't hang washing out. I only have use of one arm and it is impossible to hold something on the line and peg it without the use of two hands. I have a tumble drier and a clothes airer.

whyamonthis · 29/06/2024 12:54

lol, I’m simply making an observation, just think it’s a bit strange. Thought everyone preferred outdoor dried if possible, with the exception of disabilities, hay fever, bird shit etc. 😀at the poster who said I need to get a hobby when they took the time to reply to this post.

I am a tumbledryer user. Got fed up with washing the bird poo off my clothes. Before anyone starts talking about the environment, I never take holidays, haven't flown anywhere in over 30 years.

well you thought wrong 😃
oh and PS I don't need pollen in my clothes and bedding

Rewis · 29/06/2024 12:56

I'm not sure I've ever done it in my adult life. Seems like a lot of work to take it outside when I can just dry them next to the machine.

CultOfRamen · 29/06/2024 12:57

T1Dmama · 29/06/2024 12:24

I don’t hang out pants! Lol
everything else yes, but no pants or bras

Why on earth not?!

Same!

user1471538283 · 29/06/2024 13:03

Oooh I love having laundry hanging out! I hang it out every day the ground is dry.

My horrible ex neighbours despite having a laundry line only ever used the tumble dryer during that hot time in the first lockdown.

In my apartment with a shared laundry line I thought I was being selfish using it so I tried to share but no, no one wanted to.

AInightingale · 29/06/2024 13:03

It is strange. The price of electricity, I can't bloody wait for Spring and to get washing out. Smells fresher too. I don't see why it's seen as a faff, unless you're mad busy or have health issues.

WTAFisthisnonsense · 29/06/2024 13:06

I can't hang my washing out as I have severe hay fever and allergens landing on the washing would make it unusable for me.

EricHebbornInItaly · 29/06/2024 13:07

I have severe hay fever in the U.K. because of privet, I dry everything with a dehumidifier and an airer otherwise I’d die of an asthma attack, is that weird to you?

Also good grief the people in the U.K. are a lot of nosy curtain twitchers.

If you know...you know.

Notthecarwashagain · 29/06/2024 13:07

I never hang mine out. If it’s something that can’t go in the tumble dryer then I hang it on an airer over the stairs.

Hay fever and bird poo are my reasons, also DS hates the ‘outside’ smell on his clothes (sensory issues)

RosesAndHellebores · 29/06/2024 13:08

Hanging wet washing in the laundry room is quicker and easier.

No pegs, no line to wipe, no traipse back and forth across the terrace, no rain to watch for.

I've no idea or care if my neighbours hang out washing.

Crunchymum · 29/06/2024 13:08

Pollution / pollen depending on where you live are reasons for not hanging washing out.

I can only hang mine out if pollen levels are medium or low.

youwouldthink · 29/06/2024 13:08

My brother has severe hay-fever so all airer/dryer in his place. Could be that

The inability to see past your own circumstances is weird.
How about the tumble dryer for severe hayfever?

Custardandrhubarbcrumble · 29/06/2024 13:10

We found this completely mad in the summer in California where you have pretty much guaranteed hot sun most days and people would still tumble dry their clothes!! Our tumble dryer is for emergencies only.

BobbyBiscuits · 29/06/2024 13:11

Other people's laundry isn't exactly the most visually appealing use of a garden. I'd rather look out at a green space than a load of nickers! Lol.
We don't hang ours out, not really enough space. Why just air them indoors and occasionally use the drier.
They might be disabled or something, and find it physically too difficult? Seems a funny thing to be concerned about really.

WiddlinDiddlin · 29/06/2024 13:11

I can't shift washing outside and onto the line and back off a line and back inside.

I can yank it out of the washer and into the dryer.

Also, line drying doesn't get dog hair off... the tumble dryer does.
