To think that people who spend £45 on a Stanley cup need their heads examined?

More specifically for a primary aged child who is likely to lose or damage the cup? £45? Absolute madness. Some parents just can’t seem to see their kids go without the latest trend.

I bought my 3 kids one each for Christmas, they were £12 from tiktok shop, genuine Stanley's. I wouldn't have paid £45 though. To be fair they still use them every single day 6 months on

Those ones on TikTok are NOT genuine! 😂 I have one direct from Stanley and you can see the differences. The logo is slightly off and not in the same place. Also the handle is a slightly different shape

Caspianberg · 07/06/2024 14:49

@buffyslayer - ours are actually the 0.25l ones, not the 0.35l. So the smaller mug of tea size

Itllfalloff · 07/06/2024 14:06

We drank from our out door tap, and from nanna and grandads garden hose 😀

You were well off, then! We drank from dirty puddles!

buffyslayer · 07/06/2024 14:52

Oh the smaller ones I get
I was thinking of the big ones with a straw

BobbyBiscuits · 07/06/2024 14:52

I was walking behind two schoolgirls, probably about 8, and overheard them chatting. The conversation seemed to entirely consistent of 'Stanley cup this, Stanley cup that. Such and such broke theirs, such and such doesn't have one etc'
This was a 30 second snippet but I couldn't help but laugh. I'm sure we wouldn't have been that obsessed with a bloody cup/flask at that age!

FriendlyNeighbourhoodAccountant · 07/06/2024 14:54

Are you sure they're all real Stanley cups? I bought my niece one that looks very similar for a tenner for her birthday

GentlemanJohnny · 07/06/2024 14:56

Am I the only person who thought this thread was going to be about Ice Hockey?

Pickingmyselfup · 07/06/2024 14:57

Depends on the child I suppose. I would be mad to spend that much for my kids because it wouldn't last 5 minutes. Also no good for me because I can't chuck it in a bag and I don't like straws.

For people who can leave it in one place and can easily carry it from a-b I can see the appeal, it's meant to keep things cold for ages.

StarlightLady · 07/06/2024 14:57

There are lots of things that people do that l have no interest in. Likewise l do things that others have no interest in. As long as these things don’t impact on others, why worry.

We seem to be in a world where people increasingly try and police what others do. Even to the extent of who they should have sex with.

People can spend their money on whatever they like

Op isn’t proposing to change the law to stop them

I came on here to find out what a stanley cup is. I can see I am going to have to Google!

Same here 😂

Temushopper · 07/06/2024 15:00

Livinginaclock · 07/06/2024 12:57

I had to google because I know it as the ice hockey thing!

I didn’t even know it was hockey I just associated it with sports. I was wondering if it was golf. Now I see what it is I can’t see the harm even though I can’t imagine I’d buy one myself

DGPP · 07/06/2024 15:03

I think it’s none of your business. You probably buy all kinds of things others won’t approve of

LBFseBrom · 07/06/2024 15:04

What is a Stanley cup?

DancelikeFredAstaire · 07/06/2024 15:23

I've just Googled Stanley cups. Bloody hell £45 for THAT???? There truly are some gullible people in this world.

Notimeforaname · 07/06/2024 15:26

I wouldn't buy one but I don't see anything wrong with an individual spending their own money in something they like and want.

I think people who get so bothered by how others choose to live, need their heads examined.

Notimeforaname · 07/06/2024 15:29

There are plenty of things I'd never spend mad money on but I just cant see how its "gullible" for people to buy what they like.

If only everyone could think like you eh?!😆

GingerPirate · 07/06/2024 15:46

Hmmm.
If you got the money you are going to spend it on seemingly stupid things.
I'm very fortunate and what I see around is a bit mad, I admit.
If not a Stanley cup or the last iPhone, then it might be olive trees delivered and precisely put around your mansion, with fancy lights mounted on them and on every night.
St Albans and around.

UnpackingBooksFromBoxes · 07/06/2024 15:46

I haven’t got one but they look pretty sturdy. I don’t understand parents who hand over their phones worth hundreds of pounds to their toddlers who by their nature are likely to drop or throw them.

CactusMactus · 07/06/2024 15:46

They give off a rather chav vibe (where I live) - carried by people in sports gear and Uggs who don't actually work out....

NerrSnerr · 07/06/2024 15:47

TeenLifeMum · 07/06/2024 12:55

It’s bonkers and they’re ugly things.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. They're not my thing (I drink out of freebie water bottles) but probably spend money on other stuff people think is bonkers.

Sasqwatch · 07/06/2024 15:48

No, but I do think they need their heads ‘examining’.

Marmite27 · 07/06/2024 15:49

HamSandwichKiller · 07/06/2024 13:01

Oh it's the same as those Klean Kanteen bottles that were around for awhile. Overpriced metal bottles as status symbols 😂. It's not my money they wasted so who cares

I’m still using my Klean Kanteen 11 years later…

Toodleoodleooh · 07/06/2024 15:51

I can’t envisage a world where I would spend £45 on any kind of cup for anyone but what do I know?

Nat6999 · 07/06/2024 15:56

I have a Super Sparrow drinks bottle from Amazon cost £18.95, gets used every day, keeps my drinks freezing cold, does what it is supposed to do. If anyone wants to spend £45 on a fancy one, it's up to them, but I can't see the attraction.
