To think that people who spend £45 on a Stanley cup need their heads examined?

More specifically for a primary aged child who is likely to lose or damage the cup? £45? Absolute madness. Some parents just can’t seem to see their kids go without the latest trend.

Nah, I've got loads and my head is perfectly fine! Would also buy for a child 😂

My water intake has never been so good! It's also a fantastic thing to take on a walk, packs a punch so a great defence item haha

Doesn't it spill? Do you have to hold it upright all the time?

Fizbosshoes · 07/06/2024 13:15

I thought chillys bottles were expensive and they were about £25! My kids (teens) have them.

I don't drink any enough water to warrant buying a fancy bottle, but it doesn't bother me what other people have or how much it costs. I don't think I've ever seen a stanley cup tbh

Meadowfinch · 07/06/2024 13:16

I have two beautiful steel, insulated water bottles, both red with brushed steel lids, given as freebies at trade shows. One for me, one for DS. Work perfectly.

But some people have plenty of money and it's their choice how they spend it.

I.saw a .young woman with 1 yesterday she was trying to scan her phone to.pay her bus fare, but couldn't unlock her phone she had no.where to put her ginormous cup it was such a palaver.

Edited

So no cheaper cup would have been in the same siltation, the price of the cup caused this issue?

No the size of the cup I was just commenting on how ridiculously .big they are I couldn't care less how much you pay for a giant cup.

TheKeatingFive · 07/06/2024 13:21

Oh fgs, each to their own and people can spend their money how they like. For some people, £45 isn't a lot, however unpalatable a truth that might be.

foodtoorder · 07/06/2024 13:28

@TeenLifeMum 😂 this is so true!

ThreeEggOmlette · 07/06/2024 13:29

File this under 'things not everyone would pay for but seem to find irrationally offensive when others do' with vanity reg plates, new cars, designer handbags and cosmetic treatments.

How dare you insult my eyes with how you chose to spend your money!

Dramatic · 07/06/2024 13:31

I bought my 3 kids one each for Christmas, they were £12 from tiktok shop, genuine Stanley's. I wouldn't have paid £45 though. To be fair they still use them every single day 6 months on

Persianpuss · 07/06/2024 13:33

I think this about people who spend £40 on a branded blusher, £20 on branded lip balms, £120 on branded trainers, £800 on a branded bag etc. But I just don't say anything. I guess it all helps the economy!

QuizzlyBears · 07/06/2024 13:33

I have three, one of them I paid £70 for 🤷🏻‍♀️ I love them, my head is just fine thanks and I’ll spend my money how I want and not comment on how you spend yours!

OppositeOfProcrastinate · 07/06/2024 13:37

My daughter wanted one for her 18th. She loves having a bottle on her desk when studying all day and she drinks a lot of tap water. They are ugly and heavy but she loved it. No regrets!

Surroundedbyfools · 07/06/2024 13:39

I mean if u can afford it and enjoy it why not everyone deserves a wee bit of happiness but personally I nearly dropped dead when I looked up how much they r out of interest

PatriciaHolm · 07/06/2024 13:41

I can't actually examine DSDs head as I can't see it past the cup. She wasn't overly impressed by the suggestion it would make an excellent defensive weapon....

BloodandGlitter · 07/06/2024 13:41

£45 for something that's supposed to last at least 10 years is an absolute bargain. DD spends £45 on foundation that lasts 2 months, a friend spends £45 on take out once a week. I have 2 cheap knock offs and they're great. Don't leak and keep my drink cold.

Stanley cups are supposed to be a buy once purchase. Much more eco friendly than buying bottled water when you're out.

Ereyraa · 07/06/2024 13:41

It’s fine if it’s not for you, but it’s not fine to get upset if anyone else buys it for their DC.

camelfinger · 07/06/2024 13:44

I’ve been known to spend £8 on a pint of beer. So £45 is only 6 beers and healthier too. Fine by me.

Andanotherone01 · 07/06/2024 13:45

Probably just a trend like Air Up (which were an expensive load of crap!!). People can spend their money on what they like though

betterangels · 07/06/2024 13:46

Mercurial123 · 07/06/2024 12:57

It was a fleeting trend. People have moved on. Influencer Insanity did a good commentary on YouTube a few months ago. It's extremely ugly and overpriced.

Hannah Alonso's YT video on this craze is really good.

'It's a cup!'

That said, people spend their money how they want.

YankSplaining · 07/06/2024 13:46

I just spent $175 in US dollars on a collector Barbie, so I can’t really judge. 😂

stayathomer · 07/06/2024 13:49

They may have got it on deal, or for a present or something? We used to sell something similar and we’d put it on deal almost instantly or it wouldn’t ever sell!!! Or maybe it’s a one off or a treat for themselves or something (some people go out on the piss/ or out for dinner, if they didn’t they could buy it and have it for however long they last!!!)

CheeseSandyWitch · 07/06/2024 13:50

I use a Stanley thermos to pour liquid nitrogen at work so it's quality stuff but definitely overkill for a little kid.

WitchyBits · 07/06/2024 13:59

Have 4 40oz quenchers I think, in our house. but I have been huge fans of Stanley products for the last 40 years. My dad has a Stanley flask when I was small. My packed lunch flask was a Stanley. My DH for our first anniversary I bought him the biggest green enamelled type Stanley flask for work and the matching packed lunch tin and matching smaller flask the following years. Stanley have an amazing customer service dept and they're guaranteed for life. The seal on my DHs flask went twice over 12 years ( daily usage) and the sent replacements rubber rings out no question. The handle fell off after 15 years and they sent him a new flask. I got my teenager a quencher in September last year and the handle fell off and they sent a replacement the same day.

I love Stanley products and the quencher is GREAT for me as I have sjogrens syndrome. I half full mine with ice and to it up with water and it's freezing cold all night on my bedside table and still has ice is in it the following night when I collect it to wash out and refill. Is it a big bulky thing, yes. But until they find a way to condense 1.2l of water into a 330ml a can they will ALWAYS be big bulky things 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Itllfalloff · 07/06/2024 14:02

Dear 15 yr old niece has about 8 of them plus about 10 Lulu Lemon giant key rings that she hangs her whole life off, she swans around giant bottle in one hand, massive key ring with purse, phone, keys etc attached some midwestern home maker in her way to Zumba…don’t get the appeal, myself!

Elodea · 07/06/2024 14:04

It's up to them.

Whenever I see one, though, I get a mental image of those comically oversized free Sports Direct mugs. Can't shake it.
