To think that people who spend £45 on a Stanley cup need their heads examined?

More specifically for a primary aged child who is likely to lose or damage the cup? £45? Absolute madness. Some parents just can’t seem to see their kids go without the latest trend.

Meh, I have a drink bottle that I love so I can see why someone would spend such an amount 🤷‍♀️
I bought a Frank Green reusable coffee cup which wasn't cheap but I've now had it for years. Great colour choices, keeps my drinks hot for hours and does not leak. So I went looking for a water bottle and bought one. It's a little bulkier than the Stanley but great colours, leakproof and a little carry strap which just hooks over a finger and off we go. We all have them now and are brand loyal. Had an issue with a lid once and they replaced it no question. The stretchy strap thingy was wearing thin after 6 years so I just bought a new one for a couple of quid.
I don't do single use plastics. I've probably spent waaaaay more over the years replacing kids drink bottles and my drink bottles. I've had mine for about 6 years now and I take it everywhere.
It is really well made, completely leak proof and it keeps my water ice cold all day. I drink a lot of water but I like it really cold. I only drink water so having a drink bottle ensures I do. Without it, I don't. Psychological? Sure. Do I care? Nope. I love her 😍

I can honestly say I've never ever thought about someone elses water drinking habits.

They give off a rather chav vibe (where I live) - carried by people in sports gear and Uggs who don't actually work out....

Chav vibe Grin

@TeenLifeMum fish lip brigade 🤣
I'm so nicking that comment!

Redflagman · 08/06/2024 05:55

No issue with people buying them for themselves or their children, but a few have bought them for their DC.in my child's class...are now complaining about the cost of a heavily subsidised trip (£30) rather than £50...

BouleBaker · 08/06/2024 07:25

Stanley are a great brand, but the current fad for carrying around their enormous sippy cups is comical. They aren't practical, can't be dropped in a handbag, get in the way if you need 2 hands for something and look ridiculous, as does the person sucking on it, like having a giant dummy. They are a really bad choice for school water bottles for all the above reasons as well as taking up more space on a desk and frequently spilling everywhere.

Nobody needs to carry around a day's supply of water in one go in daily life.

However, social media fashions are always impractical and stupid, so I guess this one will pass like most do.

It's an excellent brand. Lifetime warranty. And it's also American and not british, that's a nice bonus.

NerrSnerr · 07/06/2024 21:34

There's nothing wrong with a normal water bottle. Some other people choose to transport their water in a different way to you which is also fine.

I meant in terms of the cost of it.

Must be at a low point in your life if you’re at the stage of politicising water bottles!

Thy look very unhygienic to me, I saw someone’s the other day and the top bit and straw were filthy. I can’t see how you can clean them properly

It all clips apart from under the lid cleaning is easy tbh

Just as you would clean any other reusable straw? I’m very fussy re: having easy to clean water bottles - Stanleys are no problem at all. Some people are just unhygienic

TheSock · 08/06/2024 12:58

I’m not sure why it should bother anyone so much. It’s a water bottle. A very good water bottle , may I add.
Some people spend that amount on make up, clothes, a toy, booze, a hair cut, a meal out etc

It’s just another thing people like to judge others for, isn’t it.

I think there’s bigger things going on in the world….

I could understand if it was made in the US, but it's manufactured in China? But good for you. You are easily pleased.

OldChinaJug · 08/06/2024 13:39

It's fine. People can spend their money on whatever they want.

However, if you send your child to school with one and they lose it, its cost to you doesn't impact my responsibility to look for/find it any more than if it were a £2 bottle from B&M or wherever.

If they can't find it themselves, they'll be given a plastic cup for the day like anyone else.

What's wrong with British ? Stanley my be a American brand but the cups are made in China.

Sure, the Stanley Cup final starts tonight. Florida Panthers vs Edmonton Oilers.

EatTheGnome · 08/06/2024 22:09

I spent £25 on my kids bottle, it's been going for 5+ years, it's been dropped on concrete repeatedly and still looks brand new. Every part is replacable and it can hold hot or cold drinks really well (great for hot chocolate and icy drinks). She uses it every day and so cost per use is tiny. The whole thing goes in the dishwasher and I wouldn't hesitate to replace it.

I would have replaced a plastic one 10 times over by now so actually the difference is price is hardly anything.

BurntBroccoli · 08/06/2024 22:14

Hadn't heard of these either but they are makers of the Stanley flask!

Can't believe the prices of those nowadays either!

Florrieboo · 08/06/2024 22:37

I am most surprised by people who had to google what they are, they have been in the mainstream for at least a year now, how have you avoided hearing about them, and what else do you not know about?

Plenty of people don’t use instagram or TikTok. I only know about them because they have been mentioned on here before. I’ve avoided hearing about them outside of MN by not really moving in the kind of circle that discusses water bottle brands. No judgment, it’s just not something that is important to me.

How on earth would I know what I don't know about?

I have never used TikTok, X, Reddit or Instagram. I hardly ever watch television. I never listen to commercial or pop-music radio. My youngest child left school 4 years ago. Where would I be seeing/hearing about all this brand tat?

I would not know one drink bottle from another they are of no interest to me oyjet than the basic one I use

Why on earth would I care enough to identify them? There is more to life than what people drink from

CurlewKate · 09/06/2024 06:23

I find the concept of having a reusable drink container to avoid single use plastics then having "loads" of them ridiculous! And unnecessarily spending so much money on something, once again, supposed to be environmentally friendly is vaguely obscene.

MrsToothyBitch · 09/06/2024 06:57

When I worked briefly in outdoor retail, Stanley was a name associated with quality products so I'm sure the cups are well made. Therefore £45 for the lifetime of use you'd get from it is a fair price.

I can understand the appeal so if they work for someone, great but personally I wouldn't get a Quencher. I think the Stanley cups are a bit big and impractical for carrying about so they wouldn't be my choice for myself or a child. I should think a child would need to be quite old before they're big enough to carry one easily tbh so I wouldn't even buy a knock off for a DC. The knocking over on classroom desks mentioned up thread would also put me off and the rate young children lose things means I'd never spend that much. I'd be mildly annoyed if a child lost a Sistema or a Camelbak dupe from Mountain Warehouse but they're reasonable easy and comparatively cheap to replace. I wouldn't spend £45 on a Stanley to then buy it again. Maybe for an older teen as a treat if they really wanted one and had proved they'd look after their belongings. I don't even see that many adults with them though really. We're more of a Chillies office. One person has a Stanley which looks ott and doesn't seem to have a caught on and two people have Yetis. Theirs are smaller than the Stanley Quenchers and look a much better size to me.

I do like reusable bottles though so I bought Chillies bottles that I found on sale- one for me, one for DH and we're pretty happy with them. They keep stuff hot or cold very well and fit the cup holders in DHs car. I wouldn't give a child one of those either though- you can still spill it when you've unscrewed the top, you must make sure the lid is on well, I don't find mine heavy but a 7yo would and I know from experience that knocking them over causes an almighty clank. Not good for small kids in a classroom.

GrinAndBeerIt · 09/06/2024 07:01

I don't understand anyone buying a drinks bottle of any variety, nor bottled water, but each to their own.
