Thinking of a chippy tea with some fruit ciders, switching to wine as the night goes on. I’ll be parked in front of the TV until I fall asleep, probably. DP will join but will go to bed normal time he says.

Hoping to be working as an election officer at Polling booths or an official counter on the night

FrogandTrumpet · 28/05/2024 20:48

I’ll be staying up all night. Might have a power nap after the exit poll. Champagne on ice, red bull if I start to flag.

MartinsSpareCalculator · 28/05/2024 20:50

Same as every other Thursday I guess. I have yoga at 8pm, late dinner and then read for a while.

ChaChaChaChanges · 28/05/2024 20:50

I’m planning to stay up all night. I’ve already booked the next day off work! Just need to make sure the kids get off to school on time….

Summerhillsquare · 28/05/2024 20:50

Paaaaartay!!

Power Nap after exit poll is a great idea. God, I hate the exit poll … gives me anxiety.

We plan to pull an all nighter, but my DH always falls asleep.

MaryFuckingFerguson · 28/05/2024 20:52

I am going to be a polling station inspector, so I will be popping into my 4 stations (with chocolates for those poor buggers that will have been there since 6.30am).

Yellowhammer09 · 28/05/2024 20:53

I'm going to make my seats per party predictions and feed my newborn all night watching the news. I wonder if 2024 will be as wild as 2015!

FluentRubyDog · 28/05/2024 20:54

Breastfeeding and burping, most likely... DD seems to be a night bird.

PiperLeo · 28/05/2024 20:55

I'll be on Holiday in Blackpool so hopefully I'll be merry at the pub lol

marie3e · 28/05/2024 20:55

I want to get my family round for champagne. What time could it run to ?

TokyoSushi · 28/05/2024 20:55

I'll be a Presiding Officer at a polling station all day, then stay up for a while when I'm back, go to bed, set an alarm for about 3am, have an assess of the situation, then nap with all breaking news alerts on and am off so will watch all day on Friday! It's one of my most favourite things!

AnneLovesGilbert · 28/05/2024 20:57

Cheeseboard, loads of snacks, coffee, possibly a small wine but I’m a massive lightweight and want ti stay awake. I absolutely love elections!

WinterMorn · 28/05/2024 20:59

@AnneLovesGilbert me too! We are thinking takeaway, a bowl of sweets and some beers!

Exit poll will call a Labour victory at 10.
First results confirm it by 11.30.
The resignations of so many cabinet ministers (e.g. Gove) will deprive us of the Portillo moment at 2/3.
Official confirmation by about 6.
Counting continuing in rural areas/Northern Ireland well into the next day.
Make-up of new Parliament by midday.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 28/05/2024 21:05

We're going to be out of the country on holiday and feeling a bit peeved that we'll miss the atmosphere. We'll stay up watching the coverage though, and sleep off the celebratory drinks by the pool the next day.

That sounds so interesting! Have you done it before and what’s it like? You should do an AMA!

FrenchFancie · 28/05/2024 21:08

I wish I could stay up and watch like I used to, but I can’t book days off (work in a school) so will try to get sleep straight after the exit polls come in.

keffie12 · 28/05/2024 21:12

I'll be up for the night cheering every seat, the Tories in name only, lose.

I'll have my soft drinks and munchies by me. I might fall asleep. I might not. I'm not moving from the sofa.

I want to see for myself and savour every moment of the moment they are gone

It's been a long 14 years. A lifetime agony the last 8

FretfulPorpentine · 28/05/2024 21:14

I have Fridays off. When I agreed my part time hours with my boss I wasn't actually thinking of post-election naps but I am SO PLEASED.

Anyway. I'll be staying up. Eating more carbs than is wise. Tweeting incessantly, chatting on here and with friends on Facebook.

Getting a bit of sleep, dragging myself on the school run, than home to bed.

No alcohol on the night as I worry I'll get my timings wrong and be sozzled for the drive to school.

Birmingbacon · 28/05/2024 21:15

I’m amazed that people seem to think so much will change.

politicians are all the same. Blue or red. Nothing will change.

Sorry Rishi but you’re not pooping this party.

I used to be a presiding officer. General elections are good fun to do and so busy you forget the fucking awful length of the day.

I now get to be an inspector which involves 2 visits to 4 stations over the entire day - much easier (and ironically, paid loads more than the people there all day).

My son and his gf are poll clerks this year - they will be so knackererd!

Oohooh · 28/05/2024 21:16

What time will we have a good-ish idea who has won? Perhaps 3am?

All nighter for me, flipping between the C4 and Sky coverage. I'm taking the Friday off, and DS' school is closed that day, so he's going to stay up as long as he can too. Love GE night! It'll be nice to stay up for something where the result is (most likely) to be one for me to celebrate - it's been a while.
