Thinking of a chippy tea with some fruit ciders, switching to wine as the night goes on. I’ll be parked in front of the TV until I fall asleep, probably. DP will join but will go to bed normal time he says.

OP posts:
Emmadaily · 28/05/2024 22:42

I will hopefully stay awake all night as absolutely love election night.
I don't drink alcohol normally but will buy a a nice bottle of wine just in case I feel like celebrating . Oh and a bag of cheese and onion crisps.

BCBird · 28/05/2024 22:42

Not thought about it. At work.the nxt day and can't book it off. Celebratory tea on Friday?

FastasF · 28/05/2024 22:43

I’ll go to bed as normal and next day will wake up to discover which party has won.

It will make no difference anyway because they’re all slightly different versions of each other and priority is always to look after themselves and their rich cronies.

tennesseewhiskey1 · 28/05/2024 22:44

Is this a thing? Some party or something?

SocksAndTheCity · 28/05/2024 22:53

There's a General Election on July 4th and several parties will be standing for election in the various constituencies as well as independent candidates, @tennesseewhiskey1 .

If you're in the UK you'll likely be hearing from some of them soon, although I haven't had any leaflets or anything yet Smile

lozrox90 · 28/05/2024 23:01

I have Fridays off, and DH happens to be off work too on that Friday, so we're planning on pulling an all-nighter. Quite fancy a cheeseboard, some nice crisps, and of course a few wines. I will whoop the loudest when the exit poll declares a Labour victory.

Nat6999 · 28/05/2024 23:17

marie3e · 28/05/2024 20:55

I want to get my family round for champagne. What time could it run to ?

In 1997 it ran from 10pm on polling day to 12.00pm day after. I'm planning on watching from exit poll on election night to maybe 5.00am if I'm still awake, then having a few hours sleep & catching up on the news. I know Labour were at Festival Hall overnight & Tony Blair arrived around 4.30am after flying back from his constituency.

@Oohooh I clearly meant what miracle is it that labour are expected to perform that people will be so pleased about?

I am completely on the fence. There feels like a no win situation at the end of this.

I will be immensely grateful to them immediately just for getting rid of the Tories. I use to occasionally vote Tory, but my utter contempt for what the party has become knows no bounds.

K0OLA1D · 28/05/2024 23:27

I'm vote counting. Quite looking forward to it

I’m amazed that people seem to think so much will change.

politicians are all the same. Blue or red. Nothing will change.

Is wish people would stop saying this nonsense. It's just lazy, repeating what other people say without thinking it through.
THEY ARE NOT ALL THE SAME.
Things do change after elections, you might not like what happens if your party doesn't win.

Willyoujustbequiet · 28/05/2024 23:33

Bubbly and a cheeseboard.

I can't bloody wait.

Willyoujustbequiet · 28/05/2024 23:44

Thedogscollar · 28/05/2024 22:28

I will be at work in my maternity ward.
Celebrating that better times are coming to all of us and the NHS.

Nothing, absolutely nothing can be worse than the shower of sheisters we are governed by right now.

Will be celebrating with colleagues and babies for an improved life ahead.

It's the people on the coalface so to speak I will genuinely feel a sense of enormous relief for.

Thank you for staying the course despite everything these self serving idiots have done.

Agreed ! 2 cheeks of the same arse.
ive applied to working at polling station so if I do that il come home, eat and go to bed. Might check my phone thru the night while up with baby and toddler but I won’t be staying up all night. I need every scrap of sleep I can get x

TheChosenTwo · 28/05/2024 23:51

Dh will be out at football and then probably pub afterwards getting home at around about the time as the exit poll.
I will be having a cheeseboard and probably a couple of glasses of wine and go to bed at midnight, put the telly on there and watch until I nod off. I’m usually shattered on post election day as I go to sleep about 4am and my eyes ping open at 6!
Contemplated booking a days leave BUT it’s a bit of a waste of AL as I’ll probably not sleep but be too tired to make the most of the day off And also I work for a union so it will be a brilliant day which we have waited for for a long time!

Nat6999 · 28/05/2024 23:55

Ds is hoping to wangle a ticket for the count as he is involved with the Green Party, he may end up standing in our ward as a candidate if they can't find a volunteer.

Better than the lose and lose some more that we've had for the last 14 shitty yearsm

foodtoorder · 28/05/2024 21:20

Wasn't everyone ecstatic when labour went out last time?

I agree, what exactly is expected to be changed?

Not really, we weren’t.

Lilacwall · 29/05/2024 00:07

RishiSunak · 28/05/2024 22:32

I will probably get my suitcases out the loft and then have an early night.

🤣🤣

ThankYouAgainAgain · 29/05/2024 00:11

I'm too excited to sleep already. By election night I will be completely stupid with tiredness and will sleep soundly all night. Hoping very much to wake up to very very good news at about 6am. Eeek.

mathanxiety · 29/05/2024 00:26

I'll be watching fireworks in the US, and since it's a Thursday, I'll probably have Friday off, so I'll follow the updates all day.

anotherside · 29/05/2024 00:30

Will be glad to see the back of the Tories for a few years but not overly optimistic about Starmer. He seems more intent on opposing the values of half his own party and supporters than he is opposing the values of the Tories:

tuition fee pledge in the bin
higher tax rate pledge in the bin
weak on reducing inequality
rowed back on renationalising certain industries
weak on Israel/Palestine

Dont get me wrong it will be a slight improvement on the Tories and he will ptobabky be the best PM since Blair. But he’s not going to change Britain, he’s not going to reduce inequality. He will just manage things better but the Tories will in a decade or so find the vast majority of stuff fundamentally unchanged, and will easily get back to wrecking stuff for the majority. Progress?

good idea!

Theimpossiblegirl · 29/05/2024 00:40

School night.
I'd go to bed praying for change.

pizzaHeart · 29/05/2024 00:45

We are going to watch, then a bit of sleep and then watch. No alcohol as it makes me sleep. Tea and biscuits, and then champagne on Friday evening.
We are in a safe Labour seat, I’m sure it will stay the same. There are a few Tory seats near by which I hope will change the colour.

Goingasteady30 · 29/05/2024 06:15

I'm fed up of this election already with all the preaching from people to others who or who not to vote for. It's all very ugly. I certainly won't be staying up watching to see which multitude of poor options gets voted in.
