Thinking of a chippy tea with some fruit ciders, switching to wine as the night goes on. I’ll be parked in front of the TV until I fall asleep, probably. DP will join but will go to bed normal time he says.

I’ll be counting votes. I’ve done it before, but this will be my first General Election. It’s going to be a long night. However, there’s always a buzz in the room and this time it’s going to be electric.

My pet peeve is the candidates and their agents breathing down the counters’ necks - they shouldn’t stand within arm’s length IMO. Also, it’s hard to get a sense of the big picture when focusing on a local count. But overall, I love it!

marie3e · 28/05/2024 22:04

Labour do seem a bit lacklustre this time

MorrisZapp · 28/05/2024 22:07

Don't forget to leave mince pies out for John Curtice!

ghostyslovesheets · 28/05/2024 22:11

DD1 home from Uni (politics and IR student!) I don't work Fridays

So Fizz on ice, margaritas to start with, take away and a 4-5am finish - looking forward to it.

1st of May this year my ex sent me a text 'what were you doing 27 years ago ' I think I replied - 'drunk and happy and it may have been our first kiss' - happy memories of 1997 = hopefully happy memories of 2024!

Lavengro · 28/05/2024 22:12

Reckon I'm gonna party like it's 1997! Family coming over for pizza and beers. Got to do a school run in the morning sadly, so the pp's idea of a power nap after the exit poll sounds smart but I might not be able to tear myself away once the TV coverage sets in. Hoping for some Portillo moments but tbh I'd settle for just jettisoning my own awful MP!

Icanwalkintheroom · 28/05/2024 22:14

I’ll have to work the next day (teacher) so can’t stay up all night but will have the radio on & be dozing. Waking dh up occasionally to give him important updates!

TizerorFizz · 28/05/2024 22:17

It’s my birthday and I’m on holiday - safari!!! So not sure what election news we can access. As it’s probably a done deal, the lions could be more interesting.

AnneLovesGilbert · 28/05/2024 22:23

Really enjoying everyone’s excitement and food and drink ideas! Great thread OP. I’m not at all excited about Labour winning but I do relish democracy a great deal.

SocksAndTheCity · 28/05/2024 22:25

I'll be staying up all night, but I'll be having to work like crazy Wednesday and Thursday to skive on Friday so I'll be needing a nap too.

I plan to do some research into roughly what time some of the seats I definitely don't want to miss will get called, but I love it all and have been staying up since the swingometer days. Am also planning snacks already (no alcohol but definitely rocky road, Monster Munch or possibly Chipsticks, and sausage and fried egg rolls for the end of the night 😊)

I’m amazed that people seem to think so much will change.

politicians are all the same. Blue or red. Nothing will change.

My thoughts precisely.
I shall go to yoga, eat dinner watch Bridgerton ( I’ve started again from the beginning! ) and go to bed .

Thedogscollar · 28/05/2024 22:28

I will be at work in my maternity ward.
Celebrating that better times are coming to all of us and the NHS.

Nothing, absolutely nothing can be worse than the shower of sheisters we are governed by right now.

Will be celebrating with colleagues and babies for an improved life ahead.

My goodness , if I was on a safari I most definitely wouldn’t be bothered about an election!

TeenLifeMum · 28/05/2024 22:28

Dh will be working at the count and sending me messages throughout about the appalling behaviours of candidates and journalists, I’ll watch it on tv until 2am then give up and go to bed.

PrimalLass · 28/05/2024 22:31

Flying back across the Atlantic.Very annoyed I'll be missing election night.

TeenLifeMum · 28/05/2024 22:31

I truly expected a Labour landslide but my colleagues all seem to be planning to vote reform. Maybe it’ll be a conservative/reform coalition. I know it’s only a small section of society in my sample but I’m genuinely surprised but also don’t like Labour so I’m not sure what outcome I want. I hate them all.

GiantTagliatelle · 28/05/2024 22:32
  1. prepare bed on sofa around 9.30pm … fluffy pillows, duvet, pjs (plain top)
  2. wait for exit poll, maybe with snacks
  3. depending on margin, close eyes for Power Nap until around 2-3am
  4. Set alarm to wake up to see the big results coming through, again timing a bit depdt on exit poll
  5. wake / doze in fluffy duvet with tv on for the rest of the night
  6. Do school run in PJs (plain top to look like t shirt)
  7. come back to “bed” for rest of day.
RishiSunak · 28/05/2024 22:32

I will probably get my suitcases out the loft and then have an early night.

TizerorFizz · 28/05/2024 22:32

@Sahara123 I am not that bothered as I think I know the result. As I said, I’m more interested in the wildlife!

If I wasn't working I'd love to come to yours, your menu is right up my strassa😁

TattiePants · 28/05/2024 22:37

I might be volunteering at a count this year but if not I’ll be doing an all nighter as usual. Settle down on the sofa with snacks, drinks and a blanket ready for the 10pm exit poll prediction and cheer as each Tory loses their seat. My area is always first to call and will undoubtedly be Labour so I’ll start the celebrations early!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/05/2024 22:37

Up most of the night (don’t have to get up in the morning 🙂) with coffee and nibbles. Will probably have a zizz on the sofa from about 10 to 11, to keep me going.

Love election night!

I also make good strong tea 😀👍

I'm going to a big over 30's disco on Saturday afternoon, so hopefully it'll be party time. If not then at least I'll get some exercise after spending the best part of half a day on the couch 😂

I'll get Rishi to bang the door on his way out for you 🤣🥂🍾

For those who are going to be away (me!). Don't forget you can register for postal voting. Fingers crossed we can get in there before we go away.
