Thinking of a chippy tea with some fruit ciders, switching to wine as the night goes on. I’ll be parked in front of the TV until I fall asleep, probably. DP will join but will go to bed normal time he says.

Champagne and strawberries. Maybe Monster Munch too. I’ll spend Friday sleeping it off.

SwordToFlamethrower · 28/05/2024 21:40

I remember saying that when Jeremy Corbyn gets in, I'm going to run into the street to cheer, sing, dance and weep with joy.

This time? I'll weep no matter who gets in. It's all shit.

Curlygirl06 · 28/05/2024 21:43

I'm probably going to be counting the votes, just waiting to hear back from the council. I'll be home about 4/5 ish, then stay up to hear the results. I've got the nursery run at 11.45 on Friday so I'll have to stay awake for that. I've booked Thursday off work so hoping to have a kip on the afternoon.

Countrylife2002 · 28/05/2024 21:43

I work for a charity and we are desperate for change so no need to take the day off , we will all be delirious hopefully with joy! I’ll def want to be logging on.
I won’t be able to stay up allnight but I hope to make it til 12 and then probs up again at 5. DD’s first politically conscious election (she’s 16) so we will watch it together so it will be nice to have company. May get Prosecco if it’s looking good.

Countrylife2002 · 28/05/2024 21:44

@FangsForTheMemory monster munch is a great shout. Also frazzles I think

HippoStraw · 28/05/2024 21:44

I so wish I could stay up all night!

Countrylife2002 · 28/05/2024 21:46

I was at the royal festival hall party in 1997. This has the same feeling to it !

ludicrouslycapaciousbags · 28/05/2024 21:46

*I used to be a presiding officer. General elections are good fun to do and so busy you forget the fucking awful length of the day.

I now get to be an inspector which involves 2 visits to 4 stations over the entire day - much easier (and ironically, paid loads more than the people there all day).

My son and his gf are poll clerks this year - they will be so knackererd!*

Christ there is always one Hmm

Civilwarrior · 28/05/2024 21:47

Am going to see The Killers - so hoping that by the time we get home things will be looking positive!

I was about to say the same. Monster Munch will really hit the spot.

(Pickled onion, obviously)

Latenightreader · 28/05/2024 21:47

It is interesting to compare the utter joy and boundless optimism I felt at 18 in 1997 with the cautious hope I feel now. Not sure how much is age and experience, and how much is not having as much confidence in or knowledge of policies.

Still looking forward to a night of election coverage!

Countrylife2002 · 28/05/2024 21:49

@Latenightreader I think the lab party’s campaign is much more cautious. But I think they will make a lot of change, even if they aren’t saying so. Win first, change second.

TippingPoint10 · 28/05/2024 21:50

I work in elections so, amongst other things, ensuring the last of the postals are verified, receiving the ballot boxes in, verifying the unused ballot papers, moving onto the count room and praying the numbers add up!

SunshinePlease24 · 28/05/2024 21:52

I'll be away along with lots of other Scottish people as it's the first full week of the school summer holidays.
Deliberate move on the part of the pint sized loser and his tax dodging friends. Never trust a Tory.

marie3e · 28/05/2024 21:53

Is tory meant to mean toerag ?

Latenightreader · 28/05/2024 21:53

I do agree and I will be out campaigning! I think I'm just feeling a little flat at the moment and missing my optimism.

StrawPony · 28/05/2024 21:54

I will have a Power Nap at 9 ish and then get up 1130ish to watch the coverage. Have not seen the TV channels line up yet. I normally stick with the beeb, I think Huw Edwards was the main man last time 😉. It’s Jeremy Vine that now does all the stats, he is pretty good.

Chocolateorange22 · 28/05/2024 21:54

IClaudine · 28/05/2024 21:25

Yes we were and lots of things improved under Labour. The NHS in particular.

I like the idea of a power nap after the exit poll. I am planning to stay up all night. Can't wait to see the likes of Braverman, Gullis and Mogg booted out.

Braverman won't get out, she's in a ridiculously safe seat. The locals almost wet themselves with excitement when she was doing her Rwanda plan thingy.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 28/05/2024 21:56

I'm.going to.have to work on the Friday which is a bummer. I'd hoped to.take the day off but can't.

I'll stay up as long as I can. Might try to sleep 9 -1am but then will miss the exit poll. I coukdnt stay awake last time (DS1 was a baby and i was shattered) so missed Portillo. I'm determined not to do the same this time. At least I'm WFH on the Friday and can maybe nap at lunchtime

turkeymuffin · 28/05/2024 21:58

Yellowhammer09 · 28/05/2024 20:53

I'm going to make my seats per party predictions and feed my newborn all night watching the news. I wonder if 2024 will be as wild as 2015!

I had a newborn in 2015 & being up watching the election coverage is a vivid memory

MiddleChildHits40 · 28/05/2024 21:59

I am flying to the UK to vote as have just got my vote back after being unable to vote for many years.

Will stay up all night.

MisterMagnolia · 28/05/2024 22:00

An early night for me. I have very little interest in the outcome this time round as both parties are pretty dire and are just randomly churning out ill thought out half arsed pledges in the vague hope of winning voters. I've never known such a poor choice.

IClaudine · 28/05/2024 22:02

Chocolateorange22 · 28/05/2024 21:54

You never know. Electoral Calculus predicts a very, very, very narrow Labour win. Fingers crossed 🤞https://www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/fcgi-bin/calcwork23.py?seat=Fareham%20and%20Waterlooville

Alltheyearround · 28/05/2024 22:02

Go to sleep, wake up, look blearily at the news.

Afraid I can't get too excited. I will be glad to see the back of the Tories but remain sceptical about Labour under Keir.

Purplebunnie · 28/05/2024 22:02

Waiting for confirmation that I'm counting the ballot papers
