Thinking of a chippy tea with some fruit ciders, switching to wine as the night goes on. I’ll be parked in front of the TV until I fall asleep, probably. DP will join but will go to bed normal time he says.

Work. Cook supper, bumble round the greenhouse, sit in the garden with a glass of wine and a book. Bed. 😊

Roosnoodles · 28/05/2024 21:20

Love this. I’m totally going to copy you. Have read your post to DH and we’re going to settle in with a chippy and rootbeer. Great. Thanks.

I’m amazed that people seem to think so much will change.

politicians are all the same. Blue or red. Nothing will change.

Keep it light, love

foodtoorder · 28/05/2024 21:20

Wasn't everyone ecstatic when labour went out last time?

I agree, what exactly is expected to be changed?

Churchview · 28/05/2024 21:20

Politicians are all the same.
"Mrs Thatcher, please meet Boris Johnson, he's just like you."

The government?

Booked the day off Friday, last one DH was away so the dog and I hunkered down on a airbed in front of the TV, might replicate that

Merryoldgoat · 28/05/2024 21:21

My boys have INSET on the Friday so I’ll be staying up as late as I can.

Friend is too so we’re gonna be messaging throughout.

VestaTilley · 28/05/2024 21:23

I’ll probably go to bed as normal. DH will stay up and will be very excited.

I’m very political, but Labour failing women and Jews so badly in recent years has killed any feelings I once had for them. I’m dreading them getting in.

No they aren’t.

Keir Starmer isn’t like Boris Johnson
Rishi Sunak isn’t like Angela Rayner

It’s a lazy comment and demonstrably untrue.

Churchview · 28/05/2024 21:24

I haven't had a drink for a very, very long time.
But on election night I am going to stay up long enough to see if Jacob Rees Mogg loses his seat. If he goes I am going to punch the air, then open a bottle of wine and drink the bugger, every last drop.

Hoping for the exact opposite of that 'day after the referendum' feeling the next day.

Cattery · 28/05/2024 21:24

We are retired so we can do what we like now we don’t have to get up early the next day. We will be glued to Sky news with the results coming in. Anyone old enough to remember Jon Snow (was it Jon Snow?) with the Swingometer? Can’t wait for the fun to begin x

Yes we were and lots of things improved under Labour. The NHS in particular.

I like the idea of a power nap after the exit poll. I am planning to stay up all night. Can't wait to see the likes of Braverman, Gullis and Mogg booted out.

Latenightreader · 28/05/2024 21:25

I'll buy a newspaper with all the seats and stats listed and I'll spend the first part of the night geeking over election statistics. I'll bring my duvet down to the sofa and remember to set an alarm so I get my daughter to school. Twitter used to be our election night chat location of choice, not sure where it will be these days, but I'll be messaging friends. Unless it is more of a 92 than a 97, then I'll go to bed as soon as it is obvious and try to ignore the world for a bit.

I don't work on most Fridays so will have a good snooze after the school run!

Scissorsisters · 28/05/2024 21:26

Pick up a takeaway on my way home from dropping off my polling station's ballot box.

Park myself on the sofa with family and await the first results from Sunderland or whoever is competing to be first.

Doze until something interesting happens!

foodtoorder · 28/05/2024 21:26

@Oohooh I clearly meant what miracle is it that labour are expected to perform that people will be so pleased about?

I am completely on the fence. There feels like a no win situation at the end of this.

TheFormidableMrsC · 28/05/2024 21:26

Friend coming round, we'll get a takeaway and have a few drinks! I'm planning on staying up for as long as I can but do have a school run the next day. Might let son stay home as a one off!

TokyoSushi · 28/05/2024 21:28

I expect it'll be mega busy in the polling station, which will make the day pass quickly!

It'll be super easy to administer though, unlike 2nd May when there were 3 different papers and 4 choices on this and 3 choices on that, and this one in that box and that one in this box!

This'll just be one paper, one cross, and into the box, done!

No sensible person is expecting miracles. It will take years to turn things around.

But to be rid of the poison that has infected our government will be a fabulous thing.

Eyesopenwideawake · 28/05/2024 21:31

A good friend coming over for dinner. We will have champagne on ice! 😊

Murpe · 28/05/2024 21:19

All nighter for me, flipping between the C4 and Sky coverage. I'm taking the Friday off, and DS' school is closed that day, so he's going to stay up as long as he can too. Love GE night! It'll be nice to stay up for something where the result is (most likely) to be one for me to celebrate - it's been a while.

Me too. In my culture it’s a party night. I am actually organising a post election street party as well. And on the night my work has an event which goes throughout the night to watch the polls.

Newcrocs · 28/05/2024 21:35

It's my birthday, hoping it'll go with a bang 🤣

ilovesooty · 28/05/2024 21:38

I don't work on Fridays so I'll stay awake as long as I possibly can. I particularly want to see Andrea Jenkyns lose her seat.

KreedKafer · 28/05/2024 21:38

DP and I always book the day after an election off work so we can stay up all night. We’ll be settled in front of the telly early doors with an array of savoury snacks and booze and we’ll probably put in a pizza delivery order around 10pm. We’re colossal nerds about politics and even enjoy election nights when the actual results are depressing, so we’re going to be absolutely beside ourselves with excitement this time knowing we’re likely to see the back of the worst shower of arseholes in living memory.
