Thinking of a chippy tea with some fruit ciders, switching to wine as the night goes on. I’ll be parked in front of the TV until I fall asleep, probably. DP will join but will go to bed normal time he says.

@pizzaHeart the point is that the ID rule isn't necessary. There was never any evidence of election fraud, and Jacob Rees-Mogg has admitted that the move was intended to stop certain groups of voters from voting. (It backfired, Tory voters were more affected). But I understand the annoyance.

However, we're stuck with it for the time being, so @PropertyManager get your revenge by getting a voted ID card or a postal card and voting out the people who brought in this rule.

So not every count centre counts in 20s, like ours?

I'll be working the next morning, early shift, so I'll go to bed very early and then get up around 4am to see how it's going, and watch for a couple of hours before work.
I've actually never stayed up absolutely all night to watch a general election. I probably should, as often can't sleep that well on the night anyway. But, I really worry, in case it's a bad result and depressing to watch.
I'm not excited about this general election at all. As a left-wing person. Labour has sold its soul. I'm voting Green, so I'll be interested in Brighton, Bristol Central, North Herefordshire and Waveney Valley. Also rooting for Jeremy Corbyn in Islington North, and other socialist independents. Other than that, not really.
I don't think realistically many people can stay up all night for it, due to work, school etc.
The great thing is, nowadays, with iPlayer and YouTube we can watch the good bits at our leisure later on, and miss the boring bits!

I genuinely have never heard of people staying up all night for this. I didn’t even realised people actually watched it, apart from maybe a select few. But it seems loads of you do. I will just see the results on my phone news notification thing when it’s announced.

I don't think this thread is representative. Most on this thread are politicised. In real life, many people vote then forget about it. Most people don't stay up at all. I'm very political, and I've never pulled an all nighter on election night. I do watch from very early morning (about 4) as I'm an early bird, and it's usually a really interesting time to watch from.

I'll be in bed before the polls close. Will have a quick Google at some point between 4am and 5am before I head off for work to see what's occurring.

I’m having a few friends over for a party to start for just before 10pm ready for the exit polls (will squeeze in a couple of hours nap first) then staying up through the night for the results. Thinking pizza delivery and (hopefully) fizz for the exit polls, moving onto plenty of coffee to get us through. Tory seat losses bingo cards at the ready. Have the Friday off work so just need to get the kids to school then I’ll sleep until pick up!

General Elections and Eurovision, the only occasions when I host a party, and tbh they’re not that dissimilar.

It's our son's first time to vote so we will probably all go down together after dinner. Usually watch the news, go to bed feeling hopeful and then wake up early to watch the results in deep despair! Our seat has been safe Tory since 1950 and it looks like it will change this time which is a big deal but i dont feel particularly jubilant or hopeful

TokyoSushi · 12/06/2024 12:31

I've decided that I'm going to take over the living room as a base camp for the night, duvet on the sofa and a make shift bed like when you were ill as a child, then I can nap and watch the whole night. I'm excited!

EatTheGnome · 12/06/2024 12:33

Flick it on and off the telly until about 10pm, go to bed, final online check and wake up to see if my prediction was right.

I like waking up to see the final result, the fun feeling is a bit like remembering that its Christmas morning or your birthday.

Then up for a coffee and browse the news.

And ours! It’ll be unbelievable

I’m amazed that people seem to think so much will change.

politicians are all the same. Blue or red. Nothing will change.

I'd put it slightly differently - I'm amazed people think the change will make such a noticable difference to their lives and circumstances to make them so passionate about it. Yet so many personally significant moments go uncelebrated. We are strange creatures.
