People going OTT as sunny n warm for 1-2 days

The way customers are buying paddling pools, BBQs, beers etc - they think it’s going to be this weather for 2 months. Could be thunderstorms for some tomorrow. Plus rain and mid teensC next ten days (Midlands)

Im sure people throw out electric fans after every summer.

OP posts:

Keeps the economy going I guess.
People like warm weather, kids in the garden or a bbq.
I don't , but I admit I'm in the minority.

Mercurial123 · 11/05/2024 11:51

You sound pretty miserable, OP.

FineWordsButterNoParsnips · 11/05/2024 11:57

Do they think it's going to be sunny for 2 months? Why would people throw a fan away instead of putting it in a cupboard?
Confused

35965a · 11/05/2024 11:57

Might as well enjoy it while it lasts 🤷‍♀️

alsuoo · 11/05/2024 11:58

The fact it might turn the next day is precisely why people go out and buy these things, to cease the moment whilst they can.

HelpMeGetThrough · 11/05/2024 12:00

Beers and BBQ makes sense. Beers will be gone by Monday. Well, they will be here.

This

why on earth would you assume people throw out electric fans (or anything else) every summer?

Surely most people buy these things and then keep them until they break or need to upgrade them.

Yes it might not stay sunny now until October but there's a good chance we'll have at least some use out of bbqs/paddling pools between now and then, and then again next year. And what's the issue with beers, ffs, it's not as if they expire within a few days or can ONLY be drunk when the temperature is a certain height Confused

I think you mean the opposite of cease

SweetFemaleAttitude · 11/05/2024 12:03

Oh stop being such a misbag and let people enjoy it without being so judgey.

Chaney · 11/05/2024 12:04

I think beer is a year-round purchase.

Honestly OP, you sound like one of those people who make scenarios up in their heads and then get annoyed about them.

Pull on some shorts and head outside, it’s a lovely day.

SocksAndTheCity · 11/05/2024 12:05

I've just ordered a new fan regardless of what this next couple of weeks is like.

If I wait until it's hot enough I likely won't be able to get the one I want, and I'm not risking that after the last couple of years. I expect to be keeping it for a long time Smile.

Seize

SoupDragon · 11/05/2024 12:06

They're doing it precisely because the weather might suddenly change. This might be the only chance!

FWIW, my fans go in the loft after summer and get brought down when needed.

Whateveryouwant1 · 11/05/2024 12:09

Think it's more the point people think this could be it for the summer so get out there and enjoy it. Could rain for months and only be sunny for a few days 🤷‍♀️😎

dementedpixie · 11/05/2024 12:11

We're having bbq tonight as you never know when the weather will change again (rain forecast here next week). We all have fans in our rooms and don't throw them away annually.

I've had to scrub the bbq as it's managed to survive several storms over the winter period but is a but rusty in places

TripleDaisySummer · 11/05/2024 12:12

Our cooling fan broke last summer - we did without it as it was near end of summer now it's hot again so thinking we should probably get one again.

So we did throw it out towards end of last summer though only after is sparked made bad noise and smell and stopped working - it did about 6 years work before that.

Nothinglefttosaynow · 11/05/2024 12:14

Ach let them live.
I'm personally washing everything I own to get it line dried & that's as exciting as it gets here. If I had enough friends I'd host a BBQ too. Why not.

alsuoo · 11/05/2024 12:16

@janefondofu haha sorry yes Blush

YaMuvva · 11/05/2024 12:17

You sound cheery

alsuoo · 11/05/2024 12:18

Not a Chester drawers moment honest, just a one off mistake lol.

Slobberchops1 · 11/05/2024 12:18

Is it affecting you ? No , we’ll stop complaining and let people get on with their lives

MotherofChaosandDestruction · 11/05/2024 12:19

Oh let people have fun and enjoy the sunny weather! After literally months of non-stop rain people need this for the vitamin D and boost it gives feeling the sun on your face!!

Beatrixslobber · 11/05/2024 12:19

People enjoying the weather- how dare they! Stupid people, it might rain again soon!

Boogiemam · 11/05/2024 12:21

Ooh I'm one of the terrible people who bought a paddling pool. We binned the old one last year despite it seeing us through 10 years. DD desperately wanted to go in one so we got her one, it won't just be slung away after today you know. You clean it store it and get it back out when the weather does warm up again. Making the most of good weather days is actually a thing, it doesn't mean everything bought for this weekend is only going to be used this weekend. I know it's a mad concept but I'm sure you'll grasp it eventually.

Anewuser · 11/05/2024 12:21

Make hay while the sun shines.
