The way customers are buying paddling pools, BBQs, beers etc - they think it’s going to be this weather for 2 months. Could be thunderstorms for some tomorrow. Plus rain and mid teensC next ten days (Midlands)

Im sure people throw out electric fans after every summer.

Well aren't you a Ray of sunshineGrin
People are enjoying the sun whilst it's out.. It's called living
I've had my tower fan on today.. The same one I bought 5 years ago.. it lives on the top of my wardrobe when I'm not using it.
So what if people are buying beers and barbecues. Maybe use your staff discount to buy some yourself?

OP you are not a fun sponge at all. I have loved this sunshine and managed it without going daft for all those things.

I used to see it when I had a fuel station, regular customers, filling cars regularly, they'd be in twice a week quite often apart from Christmas Eve, New years Eve, bank holidays and sunny weekends and we had queues down the road, and yes, most had not long since been into put a decent amount of fuel in their car just a day or so before and would be back again for a decent amount a day or so later. Some of them would run on fumes, yes, but not the amount we saw coming through.

Now in my job, we get an increase in alcohol-related incidents, domestic incidents, and violent/fight incidents when it's this sunny.

I think posters are seeing the lighter side of this in your OP but the sunshine does do strange things to people. You are not going daft, I have seen it in different ways.

Don't be so ridiculous!!

Alcohol and domestic incidents are at their peak at Christmas!

AdrianaLola · 11/05/2024 18:51

You'd hate me then Debbie Downer, I'm sitting in the garden having a BBQ and I plan to buy a new fan very soon as our old one is broken.

The absolute nerve of me - I can hardly believe my own cheek sometimes!

Isn't it lovely? I'm definitely an Autumn person and don't fare well in very hot weather, but these past two days have been just blissful here in sunny London.

It gives me such a boost to see people out and about enjoying the weather.

Same, I'm not a massive hot weather fan but I felt like I needed the sun
Plus I get to go outdoor swimming tomorrow which always makes me happy

Because people go mad buying them every year and they sell out. That's what the OP meant.

how is buying a fan when it gets hot in any way "going mad?"

Of course people are going to be more likely to buy fans during the first few hot days - either because they dig out their old ones and realise they've broken in the 8 months they've been in the loft, or because they've recently moved into either their first property or moved to a warmer one, so they are buying something they didn't need until now for the first time. What would be the point in buying a fan in December, having to store it somewhere for a few months, and wasting the first few months of the guarantee without ever using it?

Just like how people buy electric blankets etc in the winter. Most people don't have loads of money spare so they buy things as and when they need them.

None of this is going mad, it's completely normal and sensible purchasing patterns and the fact that sometimes things sell out is the shops anticipating this - they don't want to be left with loads of unsold items they have to store until next season or sell off cheap.

Youdontevengohere · 11/05/2024 19:50

I’d like to think if I was ever to ‘go mad’, I’d do something a bit more exciting than buy a fan 😁

Don't go on at me! I was only suggesting what the OP could've meant. Buying something you NEED obviously isn't going mad.

Malo05 · 11/05/2024 19:58

Yup in tesco this morning I was met with the usual tops off brigade (men) 3 of them to be precise at 9am in Central Scotland.

Me too but I need to buy 2 fans and a paddling pool ASAP so there is me going crazy.

Maybe that's why I don't get out much, my summer purchasing habits make nobody want to socialise with me....

Meh, I'll take my chances, if we get any more days like this or warmer in mine or my children's lifetime I will need to buy a fan at least.

bloodyplumbing · 11/05/2024 20:04

@marshmallowfinder you think it's going mad to buy fans......

You're a fun night out!

alsuoo · 11/05/2024 12:18

Not a Chester drawers moment honest, just a one off mistake lol.

You called? 😀

trampoline123 · 11/05/2024 20:15

You sound fun.

Got to make the most of it!

RandomButtons · 11/05/2024 20:16

Carpe diem baby.

Rumplemunchkin · 11/05/2024 20:18

These 2 days are probably some of the few hot days I’ll see this year. I’ve had my bikini on and my sunlounger out in the garden. I’m making the most of it. We live with shitty rainy dark weather with little sunlight for nearly 6 months of the year, I get excited to use my fan and feel the sun on my face.

We don’t all get excited to have twinkly lights on, cuddle under snuggly blankets and sip hot chocolate. PLEASE let us enjoy a few days of summer.

Who gives a shit!? Its SUNNY!
DH and I wandered into town yesterday for cocktails. I wore my new cropped linen trousers and Birkenstocks. We've spent today painting our decking and have just gone for a few evening drinks with friends, with me wearing my new Summer dress.
I couldn't be happier ☺️

maddiemookins16mum · 11/05/2024 20:42

It’s been feckin miserable here for months, thank goodness for some sunshine and real warmth. We were down B and Q at 8am and have transformed our garden in 10 hours into looking half decent. I also bought ice lollies.
Tomorrow we have 6 people coming to an impromptu bbq at 3pm. I can’t bleedin wait.
My mood has vastly improved due to this weather (despite my sunburnt arms).

Nowordsformethanks · 11/05/2024 20:58

I found the OP funny, especially the last part. I assumed it was a little humorous rant. There's a funny meme somewhere about how people go "summer-mad' once they see a glimmer of sun. That's what came to my mind while reading the OP.

Guess it's just me.

Besidetheseaside1 · 11/05/2024 21:05

Ha! We had a bbq today & bought the kids a paddling pool. We’ve had a great day! 😅

Cas112 · 11/05/2024 21:09

Miserable Annie

VeraForever · 11/05/2024 21:45

Folk round my way have gone mad. Tiki bars, plunge pools, outdoor speakers .
Have shut the back door.

bloodyplumbing · 11/05/2024 21:55

@marshmallowfinder don't call me thick!!

You're equally as miserable as OP to even think along that wavelength!

Nottherealslimshady · 11/05/2024 21:57
