The way customers are buying paddling pools, BBQs, beers etc - they think it’s going to be this weather for 2 months. Could be thunderstorms for some tomorrow. Plus rain and mid teensC next ten days (Midlands)

Im sure people throw out electric fans after every summer.

Paddling pool is out here and the BBQ will be later. We've had both for years although the pool is looking a bit sorry for itself at the moment but it is 9 this year...

I've had to buy charcoal, food and drinks for said BBQ because they aren't the kind of things that last years...

I did throw out 2 fans and will have to replace because they were broken.

It's a lovely hot sunny day so of course people are going to get the pools, BBQs and fans out and in some cases these items will have to get replaced because last year's ones are broken. Nobody buys new summer items every year unless they are a bit silly and made of money, they buy something then use it until you want to replace it due to it being broken or finding something better.

Oh I did also buy a garden sofa and a chimnea this year due to not having one and finally having room now that the kids are too old for their massive plastic garden tat. It has all gone to new homes for some other poor parents to put in their gardens.

Everything summer related will continue to be wheeled out when it's hot and sunny and get put into storage when the sun goes away. Next year it will come out again and only get replaced if it needs to.

shams05 · 11/05/2024 14:48

We've had good warm weather now for 2 weeks, no need to buy new fans and BBQs though as we had both stored in the loft.
Actually only took the fan out today as it's not cooled much overnight.
My local Asda are selling paddling pools which I suppose must be selling and that's not a bad thing

BingoMarieHeeler · 11/05/2024 14:51

Tale as old as time

You sound pretty miserable, OP.

No, the OP is spot on.
Another miserable one here, looking forward to Halloween weather.

pictoosh · 11/05/2024 15:10

We've had months of gloomy pish. Last summer was a washout.
Of course people are enjoying and excited about the good weather.

Tiredalwaystired · 11/05/2024 15:15

YABU. There will be plenty of families with one, two or three year olds who have never bought a paddling pool before and are seizing the day to ensure their kids experience it.

BobnLen · 11/05/2024 15:18

I'm sure most are going to use the barbecue and fans for a few years until they break and then get replaced by another. We bought an air conditioner one year, we didn’t throw it out at the end of summer if we didn’t use it much, it came out the following year.

Whatinthe1997isgoingon · 11/05/2024 15:19

We don't get many hot days in the UK, so people try to make the most of it when they come round.

People buying paddling pools might not have one already.

HooverTheRoof · 11/05/2024 15:20

When is it acceptable to start enjoying the weather? Do we need at least a week straight of sunshine? Is mid June OK?

I spent 8 hours selling beer, ice cream and paddling pools yesterday 😂lighten up op

missmollygreen · 11/05/2024 15:23

You are right OP! We should all put our jumpers and the heating on, ride it out till winter!

Damnyourheadshoulderskneesandtoes · 11/05/2024 15:24

Will you start a post in November complaining about people buying umbrellas or electric heaters for a cold snap? Don't they realise it's only going to snow for 2 days!! Idiots!

Damnyourheadshoulderskneesandtoes · 11/05/2024 15:26

HelpMeGetThrough · 11/05/2024 12:56

OP, surprised you didn't add that people having BBQs are selfish, as they aren't thinking about climate change and are ruining the environment.

And the neighbours washing. Not that I have washing hanging out because it gives rain for tomorrow so I'm just going to tumble dry everything today.

RobinEllacotStrike · 11/05/2024 15:31

Every year I mean to buy a fan. Every year I don't 😂

Yes - I haven’t forgiven last year’s miserable weather!

I will make the most of the lovely balmy warmth and refuse to cover up or stay in a darkened room like some sort of latter day Aunt Ada Doom.

You should be happy as Larry then- it's been halloween weather for the last 8 months. Maybe give the rest of us a chance at some joy 🙄

LindorDoubleChoc · 11/05/2024 15:36

Isn't it lovely? I'm definitely an Autumn person and don't fare well in very hot weather, but these past two days have been just blissful here in sunny London.

It gives me such a boost to see people out and about enjoying the weather.

CosmosQueen · 11/05/2024 15:36

😊 I fished the fan out of the back of the wardrobe on Thursday, I haven’t used it yet.
I’ve been enjoying line-drying the washing, walking the dog without wearing wellies and sitting outside with a coffee.

😁
Please, take your chance.
Where I am, it's definitely hot as hell!
And tomorrow even more.

BouleDeSuif · 11/05/2024 15:38

Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die, or something along those lines.

I'm off to get the paddling pool out ☀️

Tospyornottospy · 11/05/2024 15:39

We get through so many paddling pools - they aren’t resilient at all against children and dogs.

Winnading · 11/05/2024 15:40

Fans do break eventually.
Mine from last year are fine but if I had a guest to stay, they would need their own fan in the spare room. Hence buying a new one. And if you dont buy them early in the year, theres none to be found by June.
Bbq's are not my thing but again old ones break or go too rusty. And beer is year round.

Whats wrong OP, are you by any chance stuck in work selling these items?
I'm sorry if you are, but that's not the whole worlds fault.

Me too - or me neither - but this is just about the right temperature for me. And a lovely breeze today as well.

MrsCarson · 11/05/2024 15:49

YABU It might be the only chance they get to get out and enjoy the nice weather. If it lasts or if it comes back in a month then they'll be prepared.

notedbiscuits · 11/05/2024 16:03

1offnamechange · 11/05/2024 12:02

This

why on earth would you assume people throw out electric fans (or anything else) every summer?

Surely most people buy these things and then keep them until they break or need to upgrade them.

Yes it might not stay sunny now until October but there's a good chance we'll have at least some use out of bbqs/paddling pools between now and then, and then again next year. And what's the issue with beers, ffs, it's not as if they expire within a few days or can ONLY be drunk when the temperature is a certain height Confused

I reckon some people have no drinks at home. Always have beer, wine, spirits etc as well as fizzy drinks.

I'm sure that some people don't have food in at home as seen when shopping, customers buying ketchup, mayo, mustard and relish on top of BBQ stuff.

AgileMentor · 11/05/2024 16:05

Jesus Christ someone’s jealous that they didn’t get a bbq for the nice weather
